OVER THE LAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE CAR SUDDENLY TURNING OFF....NO RPM'S, NO SPEED...WHILE I AM STILL IN DRIVE (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). IN VIEWING VARIOUS WEBSITES, THIS IS NOW BECOMING A COMMON OCCURRENCE...AND IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALTHOUGH HEADLIGHTS STILL WORK, POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE...SO I MUST HURRIEDLY SHIFT INTO N TO GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR DOES NOT RESTART RIGHT AWAY. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT INTERSECTIONS, ON THE HIGHWAY (AT 70 MPH) AND WHILE GOING 20 MPH. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ON THE IGNITION FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM IN/AROUND 2002-2003. I RECEIVED THIS LATE...BUT DID GO TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT REPLACED IN 2009 (HONDA RECALL #02V120000). AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM RECENTLY, I HAVE GONE ONLINE TO SEE COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF OTHER HONDA ACCORD OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEMS....EVEN AFTER HAVING THE RECALL FILLED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 1999 WHILE WORKING AS A SALESMAN FOR A HONDA DEALERSHIP.ITS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AS IT IS THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION I HAVE.I NO LONGER WORK AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT MY LITTLE BOY NEEDS A WAY TO GET TO VARIOUS ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS SCHOOL.WE DEPEND ON THIS MACHINE AND HONDAS REPUTATION TO GET THINGS DONE.AROUND 76000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT HARD AND NOT WANT TO GO INTO GEAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE STOPPED AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE , THE VEHICLE BECAME HESITANT AND THERE WAS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
PURCHASED 99 HONDA ACCORD V6 IN 2007. ONE OWNER CAR. IM SECOND OWNER. ALL MAINTENANCE DONE ON SCHEDULE. ON 5/29/11 TRANSMISSION FAILED. I CALLED HONDA THEY SAID "WE KNOW ABOUT THE SITUATION AND WE'RE INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE. WE'RE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF MY ACCORD V6. THE CAR SURGES FORWARD FROM A STOPPED POSITION EVEN AT THE SLIGHTEST DEPRESSION OF THE GAS PEDAL WHICH MAKES IT PRONE TO AN ACCIDENT BY HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESET THE WARNING LIGHT, TEST DROVE IT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAY BE GETTING BAD. ON THE WAY HOME, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO A TRANS REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CHECKED THE TROUBLE CODE TO BE THE SAME P0740 CODE. THEY CHECKED THE RESISTANCE OF ALL THE SOLENOIDS AND REPLACED THE LINEAR SOLENOID WHICH WAS OUT OF SPEC. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN ON THE DRIVE HOME. I HAD IT SCANNED AGAIN AND THE CODE WAS P0740...

RECENTLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE MILEAGE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT ASSIST. THE COST FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD BE $2,630. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 141,000.
WE BOUGHT OUR USED ACCORD ABOUT A YEAR AGO FOR OUR DAUGHTER TO GO TO COLLEGE AND NOT TO LONG AFTER WE REALIZE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS STARTING TO SHIFT VERY ROUGH ESPECIALLY FROM THE LOWER GEARS TO THE HIGH ONES..WE CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND DO ALL THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE FOR THE VEHICLE.. YET WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE.. NOW THE TRANSMISSION NOT ONLY JERKS REALLY BAD SHIFTING UP BUT IT'S WORSE GOING DOWNWARDS.. GOT A CAR TUNE-UP DONE BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE GEARS SHIFTED A LTTLE DIFFERENT BUT I ATTRIBUTED IT TO THE TUNE-UP. IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORST SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. AFTER THEIR ANALYSIS, THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A "BAD DIFFERENTIAL" AND IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ONLY HAD 78,000 WHEN IT WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THE TUNE-UP THE END OF MAY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING FROM 1ST TO 2NF GEAR, IT WAS MILDLY NOTICEABLE. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY TRANSMISSION AUTO SHOPS AND THEY SAID I WOULD BE FINE AND THERE WAS NOT ANY INDICATION OF PROBLEMS FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT FOR A YEAR. THEN ONE DAY IT SHIFTED SO HARD I BARELY MADE IT OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY GOING THROUGH MULTIPLE INTERSECTIONS TO FIND A PLACE TO PARK IT. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY TRANSMISSION SEAL LEAKED AT 110,000 MILES. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT 149,000 MILES FOR $2100. OF COURSE, THE REASON I BOUGHT A HONDA WAS BETTER ENGINEERING. THE TRANSMISSION IN THE HONDA ACCORD VEHICLE YEARS 1998-2003 ARE DEFECTIVE. THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING AT AS EARLY AS 70,000 MILES. MY ACCORDS TRANSMISSION RECENTLY FAILED AT AN ESTIMATED 80,000-85,000 MILES. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THAT HONDA DID/OR WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN ONLY THE 2000 AND UP ACCORDS BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM IN THE 98 AND 99 HONDA ACCORD DESPITE KNOWING THAT THE SAME EXACT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION WAS USED IN THE 98 AND 99 VERSIONS AS WELL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING HONDA'S REFUSAL TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN 98 AND 99 AS WELL. IS THEIR ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO.
