Defect: Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Trike and CVO Trike and 2020-2022 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles. Consequence: Unintended illumination of the brake lights may confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

The contact owns a 2022 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUTG Tri-Glide Ultra. The contact stated that the motorcycle had failed to start. The motorcycle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the voltage regulator, the starter, and the battery needed to be replaced. The motorcycle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that while he was about to ride the motorcycle, he noticed that the charging system was lower than normal. The motorcycle was taken to an unknown second dealer, where the voltage regulator was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The motorcycle was taken to a third dealer, Motown Harley-Davidson (14100 Telegraph Rd, Taylor, MI 48180), where with it was diagnosed with loose and corroded terminal wiring. The part was replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that while riding and coming to a stop, the contact shifted from 2nd gear to 1st gear; however, the motorcycle remained stuck in 1st gear and failed to respond as needed while riding from a complete stop. The contact was able to ride the residence. The contact stated that upon inspecting the motorcycle, he noticed that the shifter lever had detached from the transmission housing. The dealer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment to service the motorcycle at the residence. The motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,500.

On another occasion while riding at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the motorcycle failed to turn off until the battery had fully drained. The motorcycle was taken back to the local dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
