Check Engine Light. Faulty timing chain. Rack and pinion repairs needed. Examined by two automotive locations: LaFontaine Automotive GMC of Ann Arbor (Michigan) and Mazur's Total Automotive in Pinckney, MI
When drving at a slower speed to make a sharp turn, steering wheel almost locks up or have to use both hands to turn the wheel. As if there is no power steering in the vehicle. At times you can not turn as sharp as needed putting you in danger of being hit by another vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the high- and low-pressure hoses, steering pump, and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
The same model and year has a recalled for a steering issue. But due to mine having a salvage title it is not cover. They say it is NOT a safety issue. And that is NOT true. It is to the point that I can’t hardly even turn it. It is so hard to turn the steering wheel. And it is getting worse. It is a safety issue if you can’t turn the steering wheel it can cause a wreck. Please please help me with this issue..
I purchased this vehicle in Feb. 2021. Shortly after my purchase I noticed the steering would tighten up randomly when turning corners making it very difficult to steer / control the vehicle. It also does this when parking. This has happened numerous times since I purchased the vehicle. I googled the problem and found some info dated in September 16, 2014 indicating GM's Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist indicating the special coverage covers condition described for 10 years after 1st svc date (the Carfax I received said was 2.10.2011) or 150,000 mi whichever occurs first from date vehicle originally placed in service regardless of ownership. I purchased my vehicle from a dealership on 2.03.2021 - took possession 2.06.2021. My vehicle only has 73,676 mi on it. I reached out to general motors to see if they would assist with the problem since I was not aware...
POWER STTERING IS LOCKING UP. HAVE CHECKED THE FLUID ITS FULL. MAKES IT VERY HARD TO STEER WHEN YOU MAKE TURNS
STARTED TO DRIVE TRUCK, TURNED OUT OF DRIVEWAY IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, MAX SPEED IS 45 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP 2 MILES DOWN THE CITY STREET. COULDN'T TURN LEFT OR RIGHT AND ALMOST CRASHED INTO A T INTERSECTION POWER STEERING FLUID WAS AT MAX AND NO ENGINE LIGHT OR STATUS WAS LIT.
FIRST PROBLEM IS THAT THE POWER STEERING IS HARD TO TURN WHEN NOT MOVING OR WHILE DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS AS IF THERE IS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. SECOND PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT SHIFT FROM 1ST GEAR WHICH WILL CAUSE ME TO PULL OVER TO A COMPLETE STOP THEN ACCELERATE AGAIN ALLOWING IT TO SHIFT.
WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN REGARDLESS IF I TURN RIGHT OR LEFT IT'S VERY HARD TO STEER. SOMETIMES IT MAKES A WHINING NOISE THAT IT'S NEVER MADE BEFORE UNTIL NOW AND AS OF THIS PAST WEEKEND ANY TIME I TRY TO TURN ITS EXTREMELY HARD. I ALMOST GOT HIT SEVERAL TIMES JUST TRYING TO GET MY CAR HOME FROM A FRIEND'S HOUSE. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT'S FULL. *TR
LEFT SIDE IMPACT SENSOR, DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG, PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE, FRONT STRUTS, REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS, FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, STEERING GEAR... ALL AT ONCE.
I HAVE HAD 2 ENGINES REPLACED IN THIS TRUCK AND NOW THE AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT WORKING AND PLUS NO POWER STEERING. THE TRUCK WILL STEER UPON SPEED. CANNOT PARALLEL PARK BECAUSE OF THIS. WHEN MAKING A TURN REGARDLESS OF LEFT OR RIGHT I HAVE TO STEP ON THE GAS IN ORDER TO STEER THE CAR.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT LOW SPEED TURNS BOTH TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT, AND THEN COMES BACK WHEN STEERING WHEEL FORCED THROUGH THE TURN. VERY DANGEROUS. NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AS I SEE A COMMON ISSUE. STARTED AT ABOUT 85K MILES AND NOW AT 88K. NEED TO GET SERVICED.

TRUCK WONT CRANK! NEW BATTERY, STARTER & ALTERNATER PASSED. BOOSTED IT OFF CRANKED STRAIGHT UP, PARKED FOR A HOUR, WOULDN'T CRANK AGAIN. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT.

AS I ATTEMPT TO MAKE TURNS, WHETHER RIGHT OR LEFT I LOOSE MY POWER STEERING FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS AND THEN IT COMES BACK.
THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT TEN TIMES NOW ALL WITHIN THE PAST 3-4 MONTHS. I WILL BE DRIVING AND GO TO MAKE A TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE ENGINE DIES. THE BRAKES STILL WORK SO I AM ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, TURN THEY KEY OFF AND RESTART IT. IT HAD HAPPENED TO ME ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE REST OF THE TIMES HAVE BEEN STOP AND GO TURNS IN THE CITY BUT ONCE WAS WHILE TURNING LEFT ONTO ON CMONG TRAFFIC AND MY CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. I TOOK IT TO 3 DIFFERENT AUTO PLACES AND ALL TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I THEN RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THEM AND THEY SET ME UP WITH A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. GMC SAID IF IT WAS UNDER 150,000 MILES THEY WOULD...
WHEN I MAKE TURNS, IT LOSES POWER STEERING, THEN COMES BACK AFTER THE TURN IS COMPLETED.
TAKATA RECALL WHEN I GO TO TURN IT SEEMS SOMETIMES LIKE THE POWER STEERING GOES OFF AND I HAVE TO USE ALL MY STRENGTH TO TURN. I'VE ALMOST HIT SOMETHING NUMEROUS TIMES. MY NEIGHBOR HAD TO DRIVE ME TO HOSPITAL AND PANICKED WHEN THAT HAPPENED. SHE SAID SHE WOULD NOT DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. IT DOESN'T DO IT EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE IT. I TOLD THE CAR DEALER(WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) ABOUT THIS MY LAST OIL CHANGE. THEY DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK AND SAID IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM. SO NOTHING WAS DONE. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR NOW, I AM SO AFRAID IT WILL DO THIS UNTIL I ALMOST COME TO A STOP BEFORE TURNING. I LOVE MY ACADIA AND AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW. THE STEERING IS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY DIFFICULT PARTICULARLY AT LOW SPEEDS. IT APPEARS TO ALMOST LOCK UP. I CONTACTED GMC BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY THING AND IT IS QUITE COSTLY TO REPAIR. GMC REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE AND IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS CAUGHT UNABLE TO STEER THEIR MOVING ACADIA WITH DISASTEROUS CONSEQUENCES. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT WITH A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM FROM 2014 THIS CAR WOULD NOT HAVE LEFT THE DEALERS LOT WITH THE POTENTIAL OF THIS ISSUE YET I PURCHASED IT JUST LAST YEAR. WHAT DO I DO NOW? I SEE THAT I AM THE 129TH OWNER TO COMPLAIN....GMC SHOULD OWN THIS ISSUE AND REPAIR/RECALL IT IMMEDIATELY.
SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH POWER STEERING. APPARENTLY THE DRIVESHAFT IS BROKEN AN IT MAKES THE CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I HAVE TO USE BOTH HANDS/ARMS AND ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO TURN THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND GMC HAS ALREADY RECALLED MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. ACADIAS NEED TO BE ADDED TO THAT LIST.
POWER STEERING GETS HARD TO STEER WHILE TURNING, PULLING IN TO PARKING SPACES, GOING AROUND CURVES. BEING TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION AND THEN GM WILL REPLACE THE PUMP. MIDDLE ROW MIDDLE SEATBELT IS LOCKED WON'T PULL OUT. HAD TO REPLACE ALL FRONT SUSPENSION. THIS VEHICLE IS POORLY MADE.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE DEALER (WALKER AUTOMOTIVE, 1616 MACARTHUR DRIVE, ALEXANDRIA, LA) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ABOUT TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO A LOOSE SCREW. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
POWER STEERING PUMP, RACK AND PINION ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHILE UNDER 100K MILES. WAS UNABLE TO EFFECTIVELY TURN BECAUSE STEERING WAS STIFF. I NOTICED IT MOST AT LOW SPEEDS IN PARTICULAR. HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT I BEGAN TURNING WITH PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE A TURN AND BARELY COMPLETED THE TURN IN TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND SEIZED WHILE TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. AFTER THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED TEMPORARILY, IT RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL FUNCTION. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED WITH THE FOLLOWING CASE NUMBER BY GENERLA MOTORS: C83224002597. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THAT EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT WHERE I LOSE POWER WHEN AT LOW SPEED TRYING TO ENTER OR EXITING A PARKING SPACE. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY STIFF. RACK AND PINION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN CALLING AROUND TO DEALERSHIPS, THEY SAID THAT ITS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ACADIAS. WHEN A RACK AND PINION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, IT CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP WHEN TURNING. IT IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. REPLACEMENT COSTS IS AROUND $1,800
AT LESS THAN 70000 MILES STEERING STARTED LOCKING UP AT LOW SPEEDS AND HAS SLOWLY GOTTEN WORSE AT OVER 70000 MILES WITH FLUID LEVEL AT PROPER RANGE AND NO LEAKS.

THE DEALER TOOK LONGER THAN A WEEK TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE REMEDY PREVENTED A FAILURE OR CAUSED A FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY LEAKS SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION CONCERNING THE REMEDY AND DEALER REPAIRS. THE VIN AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE GM GARAGE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TO REPORT A SQUEAK IN THE FRONT END. TOLD ME THAT THE POWER STEERING BOX WAS SHOT AND HAS BEEN FOR SOME TIME AS THE LIQUID WAS EMPTY. KNOWING THE VEHICLE'S HISTORY I SAID OH REALLY, MY PARENTS HAD THE VEHICLE IN HERE YEARS AGO RE: THE WHINING WHEN THEY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THEY HAD SAID THAT WAS NORMAL. THAT WAS BACK IN 2012. NOW I HAVE TO PAY $1600 TO GET IT FIXED. HOW CONVENIENT NOW THAT IT IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AS IT IS A 10 HOUR JOB. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER IF THEY HAVE HEARD OF SUCH COMPLAINTS RE: THE STEERING THEY SAID NO. THEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT MY FRIEND WHO OWNS A CHEVY TRAVERESE AND THEY HAD THEIR POWER STEERING BOX REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO. THEY SERVICE PERSON...
I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY POWER STEERING GOING IN AND OUT FOR MONTHS. MY MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS A RECALL, BUT WHEN I RUN THE VIN I GET NOTHING FOR THE POWER STEERING. I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE TODAY AND HE ALMOST REFUSED TO SERVICE MY TRUCK DUE TO THE ISSUE AND SAFETY CONCERNS OF HIS EMPLOYEES. MY TRUCK HAS AROUND 110000 MILES. *TR
DRIVING SOUTH ON 27 AND TOOK THE ON RAMP TO 192, AND THE STEERING WOULDN'T TURN. I ALMOST RAN OFF THE SIDE OF THE ON RAMP. SO I JERKED THE WHEEL AND IT FINALLY TURNED. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION. WHILE PULLING IN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN AND ALMOST HIT THE MEDIAN. TRYING TO PULL INTO THE PARKING SPOT WHEN OUT AGAIN.
AT ABOUT 92,000 MILES, MY VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING BEGAN RANDOMLY GOING OUT. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET OR ON A CITY STREET. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT LOWER SPEEDS AND WHEN I'M BACKING UP, BUT IT HAS BEEN A BIT OF AN ISSUE. AFTER SEARCHING GOOGLE, I NOTICED THERE HAS BEEN A SLIGHT PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING IN THESE VEHICLES. I THOUGHT I SHOULD ISSUE A COMPLAINT.

GMC ACADIA POWER STEERING UNIT WENT OUT, LOST ABILITY TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE BACKING UP. I TOOK THE SUV TO THE GMC DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT GMC HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR POWER STEERING UNITS IN THE 2009 - 2013 YEAR MODELS AND THERE WAS AN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THAT CLASS OF SUV. THEIR IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OVER THE ISSUE AND GMC HAS EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY, BUT IT IS SO RESTRICTIVE THAT GMC WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. GMC NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING UNIT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

TOOK IT IN TO CLEAR CODE FROM LIFT GATE RECALL. WALKED OUT WITH SLIP THAT SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY AT $1900. VERY QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SAYS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUICK ENCLAVE AND CHEVY TRAVERSE OF THIS YEAR. PEOPLE REPORT THIS CAUSES DIFFICULTY STEERING AND LOSS OF STEERING WHILE IN MOTION. UPON REFLECTION, THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES STEERING HAS GONE BIZARRE BUT I CHAULKED IT UP TO ROAD CONDITIONS (SNOW/SLEET). THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT AND ONLY DRIVEN 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR. SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF THIS STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY REPAIR (SOMETIMES MORE THAN ONCE) AND THE LOSS OF STEERING ABILITY AT TIMES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.

THE DEALER FURTHER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE POWER STEERING LINES, POWER STEERING GEAR, WATER PUMP, PIPE, AND HOSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND OFFERED A DISCOUNT TOWARD A NEW VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REJECTED THE OFFER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,695.
UPON TAKING THE CAR FOR SAFETY INSPECTION WERE TOLD THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED REPLACING AND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT WAS LEAKING. THE CAR HAD 57000 MILES AT THE TIME. UPON RESEARCHING MORE THE STEERING ISSUE IS KNOWN AND COMMON. THIS SHOULD COVERED UNDER A RECALL.
VEHICLE IS HARD TO STEER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE AND PARK OR TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. STEERING SO HARD THAT ALMOST CANT TURN AT ALL. CHECKED POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT IS FULL. ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE RADIO CHANGING STATIONS ON ITS OWN AS WELL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. DOES NOT MATTER HOW FAST YOU ARE DRIVING
50,000 MILES AND THE STEERING PUMP OR RACK IS LEAKING AND WHINING. POWER STEERING VERY SLUGGISH AT LOW IDLE SPEEDS.
AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG, THE POWER STEERING FAILED SUDDENLY. I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE, CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID. IT WAS FULL. SINCE THAT EVENT, THE POWER STEERING FAILS REGULARLY AND MAKES THE VEHICLE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MANEUVER.
WHILE TURNING AT A LOW SPEED STEERING LOCKED UP MAKING HARD TO TURN. THIS NOW HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS. SOME TIMES I AM UNABLE TO TURN AT ALL AND HAVE TO TRY AGAIN. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS CAR, IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED.
WHEN MAKING TURNS WITH THE CAR THE STEERING COMPLETELY GAVE AWAY AND WAS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER A TURN CORRECTLY. WAS TAKEN TO THE GARAGE WHO INFORMED US THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS BAD AND THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS A ISSUE WITH ALMOST ALL GMC ACADIA'S WAS VERY UPSETTING TO LEARN. IF THIS IS A ISSUE WITH THAT MANY OF THEM WHY HAS THERE NOT YET BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL I AM STUCK PAYING WELL OVER $1000.00 TO FIX SO THAT I CAN HOPEFULLY NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. GMC NEEDS TO DO A BUY BACK RECALL ON THESE MODELS AS THEY ARE NOT SAFE. THANKFUL THAT I WAS ALONE AT THE TIME THAT THIS HAPPENED HOWEVER COULD HAVE VERY EASILY CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT HAD I NOT NOTICED WHEN I WAS SOPPED TO MAKE A TURN....
POWER STEERING HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE, 1ST TIME UNDER WARRANTY SECOND OUT OF POCKET COST THIS PAST JANUARY (80K MILES ON VEHICLE) BROUGHT IN VEHICLE RECENTLY AND NEEDED TO HAVE POWER STEERING FLUID CHANGED SINCE IT WAS "BURNT". CLEARLY THIS HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT
NOTHING SPECIFICALLY HAPPENED, BUT I'M WANTING TO MAKE A COMPLAINT REGARDING ISSUES WITH MY CAR. AT 30K MILES, I HAD A POWER STEERING LEAK IN WHICH THE PUMP WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. IN FOR SERVICING TODAY, NOW TOLD I HAVE ANOTHER LEAK, BUT THIS TIME THE GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST IS 1800. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE IN WHICH THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND IT SEEMS THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE FORTINATE ONES AND HAVE NOT BEEN INJURED OR INJURED SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE HAD ONGOING ISSUES SINCE PURCHASING MY CAR NEW. THIS IS THE ONE REPEAT ISSUE THUS FAR AND DEFINITELY MOST EXPENSIVE SO FAR. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW GMC CAN PUT OUT A DEFECTIVE PART/CAR WITHOUT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY.
