Front steering/suspension system Severe wobble causes driver to stop in middle of Freeway, possible accidents or death in an accident. Not confirmed by dealer at this time. Hundreds have reported here, and the same occured. Not at this time. No warnings prior to all of the failures. So far 12 failures Yes, 12 failures.

My truck has only 13000 miles on it. We were going on vacation pulling our camper. I was doing about 63 MPH when we hit a bump in the interstate and the truck started VIOLENTLY shaking out of control. They cal it the death wobble. After doing some research it seams to be a very common problem that ford will not fully address. They put a bandage over a serious issue. They put me, my family and others in very serious danger. It took everything I had to keep us from going in the ditch. A vehicle with only 13000 miles on it should not experience something like this.

In June 2024, I experienced serious sustained steering wheel oscillation to the point of having to stop the vehicle while traveling over 70 mph to regain control before proceeding on my way. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer (Woody Anderson Ford, Huntsville, AL) after July 4th weekend and was assigned an appointment date of August 9, 2024 at 10:00am. In May 2024, after traveling about 47 mph over a semi-diagonal railroad tracks on level pavement, the steering became violent but was recoverable after reducing speed to under 20 mph. This was the second instance. In March 2024, after transitioning across a section of highway in town at about +/- 45 mph, which the highway had appeared to have been poorly repaired my steering began to oscillate but I was able to recover with no concern. This was the first instance.

While on a ramp to merge onto a highway, slightly downhill, a small ripple in the pavement joint caused the front wheels and steering wheel to shake violently and nearly lost control of the vehicle. Was traveling at approximately 40-50mph and could not steer the truck and the out of control shaking did not stop until I was able to slow to maybe 5-10mph. I was towing a trailer and if I had not been on a wide roadway late at night, going straight with little traffic around me, it's very likely I would have had a serious accident. The truck has 40,000 miles on it and tires etc are in good condition as this is a federal government owned and maintained vehicle. I see no recalls or service bulletins for the vin, but found hundreds of complaints online of the exact situation and referred to as out of control...

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH and positioned between two tractor-trailers, the vehicle suddenly experienced the "Death Wobble". The vehicle began to violently shake and vibrate, and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to control, causing the driver to fear for his safety while driving between the two tractor-trailers. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions after driving over a bump in the road. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 86,000.

The front tie rod adjusting sleeve pulled apart from the tie rod end. The threads were stripped off so where you can just pull it off and on. It caused me to drive almost into a tree where I lost complete control of the truck. I did not hit any potholes or bumps that would have caused any damage. There is NO WAY that these two parts should have came apart. This is a severe safety hazard. The tow truck driver said he saw the SAME THING the day before on another Ford truck so clearly this is becoming an issue. I only have 90,000 miles on my truck so there isn't a lot of wear and tear on it either. I have photos of the parts after the incident and I've taken it to my repair shop to get it fixed. He also said that this should have never...

I own a 2019 Ford F-350 SD. While driving 60 MPH and driving over a pothole, the vehicle started to shake uncontrollably and pulling the vehicle to the left. Luckily I was in the left lane and only went onto the berm, If I had been in the right lane I would have hit the vehicle beside me. I pulled over on the side of the road and once I got below 25 miles and hour the vehicle stopped shaking. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 28,400. When is Ford going to be forced to fix this known problem, when someone is killed?

Death Wabble Twice all 6 wheels shook as though falling off. Semi truck behind hit airhorn and locked up brakes to avoid hitting me at 75mph..i had to immediately slow to 20mph to stop castrophe
#11571379 |
Severe uncontrollable shaking of the front wheels. I had to slow down to about 10 miles an hour on the freeway, people has to swerve to avoid me. It has happened 4 times in the last 3,000 miles. The date below is the most recent time it happened. I'll be taking it to the Ford Dealership.

EXCESSIVE SHAKE AND UNCONTROLABLE STEERING WHEN RIDING ON ROUGH SURFACE OR BUMPS IN THE ROAD. EFFECT WILL NOT DISSAPATE UNTIL VEHICLE IS BROUGHT TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY.

Experiencing what’s known as the “death wobble.”
#11537037 |
Sustained steering oscillation on two (2) occasions. July 16th and Aug 4th. Had to slow down both times for it to stop.
#11536566 | Crash
Steering suspension has been failing over and over for months. Several severe incidents while driving 70+ mph down the road. Complete loss of control of the vehicle, uncontrollable death wobbles. One incident put me in a ditch, while the others were near collisions. First incident - was no longer able to drive above 30mph without sever death wobble. After “repairs”, recreated the issue at 75 mph and I’m unable to drive safely above 35 mph. Ford has confirmed many parts needing replacement but will not take ownership in replacing them. First incident -$5,300. Second incident - nearly $2500. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any notification of failure prior to incident. The entire front end of these vehicles need to be recalled. There is a class action lawsuit for a reason. I’m unable to sell my truck, or drive it do to costly RECURRING repairs. I’m fearful for my...

We are trying to make it out of the mountains of Colorado and back home to Missouri. We have the most horrific shaking on our truck. I am scared to death. This "death wobble" is TERRIBLE! I want someone to know now in case we die! We have a horse trailer loaded down with 4 horses and 2 dogs. There should be a recall for this!!!! Signed [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

When driving over 50 mph, or while driving on a bumpy surface, the entire truck aggressively shakes until you either slow extremely down or stop. This has occurred appropriately 8-10 times.
#11521262 |
Driving down i70 in Colorado and hit a section where there is concrete. One of the cracks in the concrete caused the steering wheel to vibrate uncontrollably until the speed dropped below 50 mph. During the incident braking made the vibration worse and it felt as though the front of the truck was bouncing at a rapid rate. Steering in any direction was nearly impossible. I have a service scheduled to look at this in a few weeks but until then I fear driving as it was a complete loss of control. This happened a few more times on the journey home and seems to be tied to bumps in the road when traveling over 55 mph. This incident happened without warning and did not cause any warning lights to appear. This truck has less than 15k miles on it so I was surprised it would behave this way.
#11520162 |
While driving at any speed above 30mph the front end wobbles violently whenever the truck hits potholes or big bumps in the road!
#11519704 |
Was driving in middle lane eastbound I-84 with cruise control set at 65 mph. Upon a lane bump from paving construction, the truck began a violent shaking, which is consistent with a problem know as "death wobble". slowed down immediately and stopped at side of interstate. Inspected tires, and there was no flat tire. No outward signs of tire damage . Drove at 20-25 mph to next exit. Was able to drive home about 20 miles at slow speed.

I’ve experienced 3 nearly identical incidents: after driving over bumps in the road or uneven pavement, my F350 went into an uncontrolled wobble, violently shaking, causing total loss of steering control. In each case, the uncontrolled wobble only stopped after I slowed the vehicle to under 15 mph. Because these incidents occurred on major freeways with fast moving traffic, a significant danger was posed to me and my passengers and other drivers. After searching online resources, I read several similar instances of this happening to other F350/250 owners, aka “the death wobble.”

08 Apr 2023 vehicle hit a pot hole and we almost went into ditch when it began to wobble uncontrollably. We were traveling on the hwy and almost caused an accident to the vehicles behind us. Very frightening. 16 Apr 2023, hit a small pot hole vehicle began to wobble uncontrollably, took us again almost into the ditch. It occurred four more times trying to get home from airport. We scared traveling in this vehicle now because of these incidents. We are filing an official complaint on Ford.

Experienced the Ford Death Wobble approximately July 1, 2022. After going over a small pothole at 65 mph, vehicle experienced severe wobble and pulled from far right lane to shoulder and veered toward cement wall at 65mph! Braking caused increase in wobble. Was finally able to slow vehicle to exit highway. No prior issues with wobble nor any warning. Shaking and nearly crying, I slowly drove to Big O shop who confirmed wobble and recommended Dealer address problem. Slowly drove to Ford dealer which took two days to confirm issue and inform me that parts were backordered and would call when available. (As of 3/23/23 no call.) Ford told me to not drive over 45mph, essentially making my truck useless. Slowly drove back to Big O and had them repair at my cost ~$1600, Ford reimbursed ~$250. On 3/21/23, driving 65mph over small bump in road, experienced Death Wobble again...

I was accelerating to get on the freeway and there was a slight bump or crease in the pavement and my front end started to bounce and warble uncontrollably, fortunately I was able to pull off of the on-ramp and come to a stop with out incident. This was not the first time I noticed this, but it was definitely the worst.

Death Wobble, the steering wheel shook violently. I could not control the vehicle and had to stop in the middle of the road to make it quit. This has happened before. It was serviced for this problem once.
#11507205 |
experiencing intermittent violent wobble of front suspension/steering. 2 significant events since October 2022. Traveling at highway speed and incurring rough road steering wheel wobbles severally. Only way to stop it is to slow down below approximately 50 mph, however latest event (02/14/23), had to go below 20 mph to get it to stop. very dangerous on the highway. Tractor trailer had to change lanes very quickly to avoid hitting me. Ford dealership is aware of the issue, however they only offer a new steering dampener that has not been available for almost 4 months. Had an independent service center look at the suspension. They found that the dampener is faulty and another suspension joint is showing premature wear.

3 different occasions where my trucks front wheels and steering wheel shakes uncontrollably after hitting a pothole or bridge transition. Twice pulling a fifth wheel camper and once by itself. Very scary. Twice I had to come to a near stop before I could continue. Death wobble they call it. Took to Ford dealership who said the fix is a steering damper which is on national back order with no release date. It has happened once again since then for a total of 4 times. Never know when it will happen. Just depends on the bridge transition or pothole. Ford needs to correct this steering problem

When I hit a bump with this truck the steering shakes violently. I brought to ford and they said it is a steering dampner and it is a recalled part and they would fix it as a recall however they said they dont have the part and they dont know when the part will be available. I am now left with an undriveable truck and no one can tell me when it can be fixed.

My 2019 F-350 lariat power stroke 23,500 miles has experienced a shaking in the steering on the freeway multiple times previously, it seemed to happen when a bump or uneven part of the road was felt. The last time 1/11/23 it shook uncontrollably on the freeway until the truck was slowed to 20MPH. I had both hands tightly gripped on the steering wheel and could not control it- until the speed was reduced to 20 MPH. Other vehicles on the freeway had to avoid my truck as I had to lower the speed well below the minimum speed limit on the freeway which could have caused a crash. After consulting the dealer and another mechanic the term used for this condition is the death wobble. The truck is unsafe. It was brought in to the authorized Ford dealer in Wisconsin. They said there is a fix for this issue but...

Vehicle front end started to violently shake when hitting small bumps while driving over 55 mph. When this happens, I have to slam on the brakes to get the vehicle back below 40 mph to stop the shaking, then can accelerate back to speed.....only to happen again when hitting a bump. The dealer states that it is worn parts on a vehicle with less than 20,000 miles on it. The vehicle has been at the dealer waiting on backordered parts for over 3 months. Ford is not taking responsibility for the issue. The vehicle is unsafe to drive in it's current condition.

Truck violently shakes when vehicle traverses over pothole while traveling over 55 mph. Commonly called the “ford death wobble”. Taken to Ford dealership twice, each time told they can’t replicate the issue.

While operating my 2019 F350 on 12/3/2022 at approximately 65 MPH on an interstate the steering wheel began to shake/pulse violently from left to right for approximately 40 seconds. I was unable to control the vehicle during this time. About 2 minutes later the exact same symptoms appeared again, even more violently. I had a passenger in the vehicle record the second incident. During these incidents it is next to impossible to control the vehicle. This is an ongoing issue which Ford is aware of...a quick search online and you'll see this is referred to as the "Super Duty Death Wobble". My vehicle was repaired 3 times for this same issue prior to the incident which is mentioned above. The dealer installed an aftermarket part, which was authorized by Ford at the time. However, Ford now no longer authorizes the use of this part. The correct part has been on...

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH and driving over a rough patch of roadway, the steering wheel started jerking to the left and the right. The vehicle had experienced the death wobble. The contact slowed down to 30 MPH and the vehicle started driving properly. The contact resumed driving 55 MPH and the vehicle drove normally. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the sway bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.

Upon crossing a bridge expansion joint at around 65 -70 mph, the vehicle steering began to shake violently side to side. I was able to quickly reduce my speed and the shaking subsided once I was able to slow to around 40 mph. I have not contacted the ford dealer yet, but do recall seeing mention of this specific problem before. I started searching the internet for answers where I came upon the recommendation to report this dangerous incident to your agency.

While driving on the two lane freeway at approximately 65mph in the right lane, a lane change to the left lane was initiated as a slower moving truck was in the right lane. Following the lane change to the left lane, the front left tire hit the pavement recess accommodating the yellow reflector embedded in the pavement, which was on the inside of the fog line. Upon impact with the reflector recess the vehicle front end and steering wheel began to shake violently. The steering wheel shook side-to-side so violently that it shook the drivers hands, arms, shoulders and head back and forth so quickly and violently that the drivers vision was impaired; the driver could see but all objects were blurred due to the shaking. Fortunately the left shoulder was paved and an area to the left of the shoulder was also paved (but not maintained perhaps a construction...

I was crossing a railroad at 50-55 miles per hour and the front end started shaking violently and was barely able to control it . almost had to stop to get the shaking to stop.

Ford has issued a recall on the steering dampener. The ford brand part is on back order. There are several aftermarket options available however ford refuses to cover the costs of these parts. They are also refusing to cover the cost of a rental vehicle similar to what I a currently driving. Basically forcing me to drive a vehicle with a serious steering defect.

Several small issues with F-350 but nothing to stop using until yesterday. I was running along about 45 mph and front began to shake and in fact so bad started bouncing about 1’ to 2’ high. I did not brake or speed up but took foot off gas and slowed down to approx 15mph and stopped. I was in traffic so went back to 45 mph and has not acted up since. But this could have been disaster.

Death Wobble was a consistent problem. Driving at approximately 40-60 mph and the front end and steering wheel shook violently after hitting a bump in the road. I have an extended warranty and Ford repaired it yesterday (I hope). They said it was caused by loose parts. Here is a list of their repairs: Installed BC3Z 3050 C : Joint ASY - Ball Installed AC3Z 3A116 A : Bush - Front Suspension AR Installed HC3Z 3304 A : Rod ASY - Drag link Installed 3A131 B : Ind ASY - Drag link rod Replaced loose parts Track bar ball joint Track bar bushing Upper drag link, lower drag link, right hand tire rod end. On 4 separate occasions while driving my truck under 60 mph, the truck started shaking violently. The steering froze and the complete chassis, frame and body shook and felt like it was falling apart. It only subsided when I decelerated below 30 mph.
#11488857 |
After traversing across a bridge the truck started shaking violently. I could not keep the truck under control and it started to ver off the interstate to the shoulder. Once the truck slowed down to about 30 mph the truck stopped shaking. I was towing a 39’ camper. Once the shaking started I had absolutely no control of the truck. This truck only has 35,000 miles on it and should not be experiencing steering and suspension failure. After researching this is a very common issue with these trucks.

Traveling with fifth wheel out of home state and the steering wheel and front end starts shaking violently. Was on the interstate when this happened. This has happened now three times and I’m concerned I may loose control and crash.
#11487601 |
Traveling at 60 miles per hour I hit a bump in the freeway and the truck went into uncontrollable shake and jumped around like a pogo stick until I came to a stop. Pulled to the side of the road and checked wheels and looked at the suspension but didn't see anything unusual. Traveled normally after that. I only have 22,000 miles on this truck and have had bouncing and jumping before when traveling over bumps but it had been quite mild compared the what just happened. Luck we didn't hit or get hit!

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle experienced a death wobble. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact parked the vehicle on the side of the road. The contact was able to drive the vehicle under 40 MPH to a local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 248,000.

Death wobble horrific experience (2)x on 9/15/22 after work on the interstate coming home. Almost rear ended by 18 wheeler. Travel speed 74. 6-lane highway, I had to control the vehicle best as possible in order to move over (3) lanes safely. Cars raced past blaring their horns b:c accident almost happened. Again on 9/18/22, merging on the interstate travel speed 60 with trailer attached. It was a VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE! I almost got killed not to mention another person could’ve lost their life too! This defect IS NO JOKE!! Ford should take responsibility & RECALL THESE VEHICLES!!! Do we have to die before they decide to fix a defective part(s)? I love my F350, & only source of transportation. I can’t afford to repair it at the moment. But Ford can at No charge to me. $65k vehicle, $3k parts/labor on a defect known by Ford & they’re not...

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH and driving over a bump on the roadway, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. The contact pulled over but was unaware of the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the tires and suspension was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 168,000.

I have less then 40k on my 2019 f350 and I was driving home from work on August 24th on a back country road and all of a sudden my truck went into a complete shake as if I was going over rumble strips times 10... I was only going maybe 70km hr on dry/smooth road. I stopped the truck got out and looked at all my tires and nothing to be seen. Proceeded to head home and all was fine again. When this happened I had very little control of steering. This scares the absolute crap out of me as I haul horses all the time on the hwy's and if this was to happen doing higher speed hauling, I am scared of the outcome. I am a very experienced driver and hauling, driven all across Canada and the States hauling high end horses even in Europe. I am...
