I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE BACK ROAD AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH, AND MY TRUCK STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND I LOST ALL CONTROL OF STEERING. I WENT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS COMING, AND HAD TO HIT MY BRAKES HARD TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 35-40 ON A CITY STREET AND 60 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. THIS IS KNOWN AS DEATH WOBBLE. THE WOBBLE WAS SO BAD THAT IT LOOSENED THE TRACK BAR AND THE BOLT HOLDING THE POWER STEERING HARD LINE. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING FLUID WITHIN SECONDS. I HAVE RESEARCHED IT, TRIED REPLACING SEVERAL PARTS, LIKE TIE-RODS, AND IT HAS LESSENED A LITTLE BIT, BUT IF I HIT A BUMPY ROAD OR EVEN JUST A PATCH OF NEW PAVEMENT, IT STARTS SHAKING. I HAVE READ A LOT OF OTHER FORD OWNERS ARE...
I HAVE A 2005, CREW CAB, SHORT BED, 6.0 DIESEL F-350. WHEN DRIVING AT 55-75MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, I PASSED A SMALL BUMP TRIGGERING A RIGOROUS SHAKING OF THE FRONT END. I COULD NOT APPLY BRAKES RAPIDLY, AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE. I BARELY HAD CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT AFTER FINALLY SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP THE SHAKING STOPPED. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS, AND HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES SINCE AT 55-75MPH. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD F-350 4X4 CREWCAB DIESEL WHICH EXHIBITS SEVERE FRONT END SHIMMY AND STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION WHEN GOING OVER ROUGH ROADS OR CATTLE GUARDS. THIS IS SO SEVERE THAT I HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN ORDER TO CONTINUE. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT APPARENTLY WON'T ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX IT. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
2005 FORD F350 4X4 P/UP TRUCK VIOLENTLY SHAKES. STARTS OUT AFTER HITTING SMALL BUMP OR BUMPS AND BUILDS INTO VIOLENT SHAKING FROM ONE END OF THE TRUCK TO THE OTHER. ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO COME TO IMMEDIATE COMPLETE STOP. VERY SCARY ON THE FREEWAY. SHAKING STRONG ENOUGH THAT ANYTHING ON DASHBOARD OR CONSOLE IS THROWN TO FLOOR, STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST PULLED FROM HANDS IF YOU DON'T GRAB ON TIGHT. HAPPENS IRREGULARLY AND WITHOUT NOTICE. FORD HAD BEEN UNWILLING TO FIX, SAYS THAT I CHANGED PARTS TO AFTER MARKET AND WILL NOT LOOK AT IT. I TOLD THEM PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE PARTS CHANGE AND THAT PARTS CHANGE WAS IN ATTEMPT TO FIX. THAT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO.. NOW I FIND OUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH MANY SIMILAR VEHICLES, RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD AND NOW THEY ARE WILLING TO TAKE A LOOK.. I CHANGED SHOCKS,...
I HAVE A 2005 FORD F-350 PICK UP TRUCK. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH SEVERE VIBRATIONS SINCE SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT RESOLUTION. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD ABOUT THIS "SHIMMY" PROBLEM. THE LETTER RECOMMENDS MAINTAINING TIRE PRESSURE. TODATE THAT HAS NOT RESOLVED MY PROBLEM. AT ONE POINT, I REPLACED ALL THE TIRES ON THE TRUCK AT THE DEALER (THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE WAY THEY WERE WEARING) BUT WITH NEW TIRES AND THE PROPER INFLATION, THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. AS YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM, I THINK YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT THE SOLE CAUSE AS IT HAS NOT FIXED MY VEHICLE. *TR

WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CROSSING ROUGH BRIDGE ABUTMENTS OR OTHER UNEVEN SURFACES, WHOLE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY AND SOMETIMES LASTS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE SETTLING DOWN. THIS IS A SEVER PROBLEM AS I'M UNABLE TO STEER OR CONTROL THE TRUCK. I'VE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES TO MY DEALER AND THEY SAY THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. I DISAGREE AND BELIEVE THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-350 SUPERDUTY. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE ENGINE MUST BE TURNED OFF IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP SHAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY REPLACED THE SWAY BAR. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY/OSCILLATION (BACK AND FORTH MOTION), IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING FRONT OR REAR WHEEL IMPACTS (PAVEMENT JOINTS, FROST HEAVES, ROUGH ROADS, ETC). NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL. MUST PULL OFF OF THE ROAD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO STOP SHIMMY. *TR
SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END AFTER TRAVELING OVER BUMPY ROADWAY, CAUSING A TEMPORARY LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE LOSS OF CONTROL CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL INTO THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC. PRIMARILY OCCURS OVER 35 MPH. HAPPENED OVER 10 TO 15 TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE STALLED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED ON EACH INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A MODULE ON THE WIRING HARNESS AND VARIOUS OTHER UNKNOWN PARTS, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. ON ONE OCCASION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, THE BRAKES WORKED PROPERLY. TWO MONTHS AGO THE SHOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRACTURED. A WELDING SHOP DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD WELD JOINT.
