TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, IT STALLED AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WHEN I WAS MERGING ONTO TWO LANES OF A INTERSTATE FROM A TWO LANE ON RAMP. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE ON RAMP AND HAD A VEHICLE ON MY RIGHT AND TWO SEMIS IN THE INTERSTATE LANES. I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD ABOUT 45 MINUTES IN A LIGHT RAIN THE WHOLE TIME. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF THE WEDGE AND GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND THE ENGINE BEGAN EXTREME SPUTTERING AND DECELERATING. I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID BEING SANDWICHED BETWEEN THE VEHICLE ON MY RIGHT AND THE TWO SEMIS. I HAVE SEEN FORD'S REPORT STATING IT ONLY LASTS FOR SECONDS AND THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE. DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION WE HAD STOPPED AND WERE GETTING BACK ONTO HIGHWAY , IT HAD BEEN RAINING ALL THE WAY AND WHEN WERE MERGING BACK ONTO HIGHWAY I ACCELERATED QUICKLY THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING LOST POWER I LIFTED OFF ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE SHAKING HAD QUIT AND THEN EASED BACK IN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE DURING WET CONDITIONS MY 2012 FORD F150 ECOBOOST STARTED TO STUMBLE AND LOOSE POWER DRASTICALLY WHILE PULLING A TRAILER. THE TRUCK WOULD ONLY DO 30 MPH AS IT SHOOK AND STUMBLED DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THIS POWER LOSS MADE IT REALLY DANGEROUS TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY WITHOUT OTHER CARS AND TRUCKS BEING AFFECTED. THE ONLY WAY TO RESET THE TRUCK WAS TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME DURING WET RAINY CONDITIONS. MY TWO CHILDREN AND I WERE DRIVING UP HWY 75 NORTH FROM MACON WHEN WE ACCELERATED TO THE NEXT LANE. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70 SO WE WERE JUST GOING TO PASS IN AT A NORMAL RATE WHEN THE ENGINE JUST QUITS AND THE WHOLE CAR STARTS TO SHUDDER. I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE IN SOUTH FLORIDA ON A CLEAR AND SUNNY DAY WHEN I SLOWED FOR TOLLS. AS I TRIED TO SPEED BACK UP, THE TRUCK STUMBLED AND ACTED LIKE IT WAS LOSING POWER. I HAVE A 2012 FORD F-150 WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. WHILE SLOWLY ACCELERATING AT HIGHER SPEEDS (GENERALLY AROUND 50 TO 70 MPH), THE ENGINE MISSES TERRIBLY ON MULTIPLE CYLINDERS AND THE TRUCK JERKS AND LUNGES VIOLENTLY ALL WHILE LOSING POWER AND SPEED. IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, BUT MOST OFTEN WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING TO MAINTAIN SPEED UP A HILL OR PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH, THE CONDITIONS WERE DRIZZLE/VERY HUMID, ROUGHLY 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE. THERE WAS A SLOW CAR IN FRONT OF ME SO I GOT IN THE ON COMING TRAFFICS LANE TO PASS THE CAR, BUT WHEN I STOMPED ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. MY TRUCK WOULDN'T ACCELERATE SO I PUSHED IT A FEW MORE TIMES AND STILL NOTHING. I WAS ON A TRIP FROM OKLAHOMA TO FLORIDA. I STOPPED FOR GAS IN LOUISIANA. WHEN I GOT ON TO THE ON RAMP TO RETURN TO THE INTERSTATE I FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL TO GET IN FRONT OF A SEMI TRUCK, AND IT LOST ALL POWER ALMOST BEING HIT BY SEMI TRUCK. AFTER MY TRIP I TOOK MY PICKUP TRUCK TO MY FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT.THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS APART WHILE IN HARD ACCELERATION ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON AN INTERSTATE ON-RAMP, VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER VIOLENTLY AND LOSE POWER. IN FIRST INSTANCE, I WAS ABLE TO MERGE IN THE LEFT LANE AND LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR. AS VEHICLE COASTED, THE SHUDDER SUBSIDED AND WITHIN 1 MINUTE STOPPED ALL TOGETHER. IN THE SECOND INSTANCE, WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, TRAFFIC CONDITIONS WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MERGE AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD UNTIL THE SHUDDER SUBSIDED AND POWER WAS RESUMED. IN NEITHER SITUATION, DID THE VEHICLE GO INTO SAFE MODE OR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR. VEHICLE SIMPLY RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
I ONLY JUST LEARNED OF YOUR INVESTIGATION SO MY MEMORY ON EXACT DATES AND MILEAGE MAY BE OFF BY A FEW WEEKS. I DID TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER TO REPORT MY INCIDENT SO THEY SHOULD SHOULD HAVE A RECORD OF THIS AND THE WORK THEY PERFORMED (BAIERL FORD, ZELIENOPLE, PA 16063). WE WERE RETURNING FROM ARKANSAS IN OUR F150 WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE IN RAIN/HEAVY MIST. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND WHEN I WENT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE THE TRUCK JUST SHOOK AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I PUT MY TRUCK INTO DRIVE AND IT HESITATES, JUMPS BACK AND FOURTH BEING REAL SLUGGISH. THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS IS TO FLOOR THE GAS AND LET IT PUSH THROUGH FOR ABOUT FIVE TO TEN SECONDS AND THEN IT IS DONE. WHILE ACCELERATING ON AN ON-RAMP TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC ON I-90, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE VIBRATED VERY HARD, THE ENGINE THEN LOST POWER, CAUSING ELECTRIC TO SHUT DOWN, AND UNCONTROLLED DECELERATION TO OCCUR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. ONCE I RELEASED THE PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL, AND PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE POWER RETURNED AND THE ENGINE RESPONDED AGAIN. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE PROBLEM AND WAS REPLACED. NOTIFIED FORD REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT CONCERNS THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, HE RESPONDED THAT THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, AND NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE DESPITE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT WE COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE OR HARD ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING STOP VEHICLE SHAKES AND STALLS, STAYS IN SECOND GEAR AND HAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, IN WET OR DRY CONDITIONS, SOMETIMES COMPLETELY DYING. ECOBOOST ENGINE HAS A TERRIBLE MISS AT IDLE AND BLOWS BLACK SMOKE AT START UP. FUEL MILEAGE IS ALSO BAD DUE TO RICH FUEL CONDITIONS. TO ATLANTA, GA IN THE RAIN, TRUCK DISPLAYED THE SHUDDERING STALL CAUSED BY CONDENSATION IN THE CHARGED AIR COOLER WHICH GETS INGESTED INTO ENGINE CAUSING MOTOR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE, TRUCK HAS HAD TWO OF THE THREE TSB'S PERFORMED AS THIS IS THE SEVENTH INCIDENT OF THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE NEW. WHEN TRUCK GOES INTO LIMP MODE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY AT RISK FROM REAR END COLLISION. *TR
I HAD THE TSB (FOR KNOWN SURGING ISSUE) PERFORMED ON MY TRUCK (2012 SUPER CREW 4X4) IN MAY AT 25K MILES. EVERYTHING SEEMED BETTER, UNTIL... THIS PAST SATURDAY, I LEFT THE HOUSE AT 5AM FOR A 7.5 HOUR/ 350 MILE DRIVE FROM HOME. IT WAS RAINING CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE FIRST TWO HOURS. SOMETIMES HARD RAIN, BUT IT DIDN'T STOP FOR THE FIRST 2 HOURS. I WAS DRIVING BACK COUNTRY ROADS WITH MOSTLY 55 MPH LIMITS AND ROLLING HILLS. GIVEN THE WEATHER, TYPE OF ROADS, TIME OF DAY, ETC. I DROVE GENTLY FOR THE TRIP, NEVER PUT MY FOOT IN IT. THEN, WHEN GOING UP A STEEPER HILL THAT REQUIRED MORE THROTTLE THAN THE OTHERS TO KEEP MY SPEED UP, THE TRUCK STARTED HESITATING. A LOT. MORE THAN IT EVER HAD BEFORE THE TSB. AND THEN, JUST AFTER THE HESITATION BEGAN, SOMETHING EXTRA OCCURRED THAT HAD NEVER HAPPENED TO IT BEFORE....
THIS WRITE UP IS FOR A 2012 FORD F-150 TRUCK WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST V-6 INSTALLED. JAN, 2013-WHILE DRIVING ON I-24E, I WAS PULLING OUT FROM THE REST STOP, JUST NORTH WEST OF EXIT 1. I WENT TO PASS A 18 WHEELER AND MY TRUCK CAME "UNGLUED". IT PRACTICALLY DIED IN THE PASSING LANE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDDLE. IT SHUDDERED SO HARD; I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT DIED. IT WAS MISSING AND SHUDDERING LIKE CRAZY. I PULLED OFF EXIT 1, SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN AND RESTARTED. IT RAN OK WITHOUT THAT SAME THING HAPPENING ON THE WAY HOME. I HAD A PRETTY DESCENT "MISS" IN 6TH GEAR, RUNNING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH. SOMETHING VERY STRANGE HAPPENED HERE. IT WAS THE FIRST ISSUE I'VE HAD WITH MY TRUCK. ALTHOUGH I'VE NOTICED RECENTLY THE MPG IS DOWN BY 2.0...
TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, LITTLE TO NO UPHILL OR DOWNHILL GRADE, SPEED APPROXIMATELY 55, ATTEMPTED TO PASS A TRACTOR-TRAILER. PRESSED HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND STARTED THE PASS. HALFWAY THRU THE PASS, PASSING SPEED 65-70 MPH, MY TRUCK LOST ALL POWER AND STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR, AND PULLED BACK IN BEHIND THE TRACTOR-TRAILER, THEN OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, OPENED THE HOOD, EXPECTING TO SEE SOMETHING BAD. NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF ANYTHING WRONG. STARTED THE ENGINE, DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME, WITH NO OTHER MIS-HAPS. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TWICE MORE, THE MOST RECENT BEING JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, 6-10-13. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, IT HAS BEEN DURING AN ATTEMPT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE, DURING A HARD ACCELERATION. I'M TYPICALLY A VERY CONSERVATIVE DRIVER, AND BOUGHT THIS TRUCK WITH THIS ENGINE FOR BOTH...
I WAS MERGING ON THE ON RAMP TO OBTAIN HIGHWAY SPEED I STEPPED ON THE GAS WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE REALLY BAD. I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE BUT THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE TO THE ENGINE AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO LOSE SPEED. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS THE TRUCK WOULD SHAKE EVEN WORSE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO I WOULD NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS SHUDDER IN THE TRUCK. *TR
DURING ANY HARD ACCELERATION SUCH AS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, THE TRUCK STALLS AND GOES INTO A MODE OF MISSING AND ENGINE STALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK AND ONLY HAPPENS DURING A HARD ACCELERATION. I HAVE HAD A CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED AND THE TECH AT THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS KNOW DEFECT WITH THE DESIGN OF SOME KIND OF MOISTURE PUMP. HE SAID THAT FORD WOULD ONLY FIX IT WHEN YOU GOT TO THE FOURTH CONVERTER REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A HAZARD DURING MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. *TR
THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHUDDER AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND POWER. *TR
TRAVELING AT 60 + / - MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. ENGINE LOST POWER ON ACCELERATION AND SEEMED TO SPUTTER. THIS IS STRANGE AS THE GAS WAS NOT "PUNCHED" OR ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF NORMAL PASSING ACCELERATION. INITIALLY I THOUGHT I MAY BE OUT OF GAS OR SOMETHING BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. I HAVE NOTED POWER LOSS TWO OTHER TIMES BUT DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT AS THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL ONCE I BACKED OFF THE GAS. THE ONE DIFFERENCE THIS TIME IS THE ENGINE MADE A VERY ROUGH VIBRATION WHICH CAUSED OTHERS IN THE TRUCK TO ASK IF I WAS HAVING ENGINE TROUBLE. *TR
