The contact owned a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated that her son had parked the vehicle in the residence driveway and had turned off the ignition. The son had exited the vehicle and saw that a fireball had erupted from under the hood. The contact stated that she had reviewed the explosion on her home security camera. The contact stated that the fire department was called and extinguished the flames with water. A fire department report was not filed however it was commented that the origin was most likely an electrical fire. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an impound lot and was declared a total loss by her insurance company. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Safety Hotline. FIRST I PURCHASED THE FORD F-150 2000 YEAR MODEL FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP ON OCT 28, 2019. IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS PROBLEMS KEEPING IT RUNNING. THEY PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT 2 DAYS LATER THEN WHILE REACHING 50 MPH MY TONS WOULD DROP AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE I HAD JUST PUT 51 DOLLARS IN THE TANK, THEN I PUSHED THE GAS TO THE FLOOR MY ROOMS WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO 3 THEN I WOULD HAVE TO LET OFF THE GAS AND IT SEEMED TO DO A HARD SWITCH IN GEAR. AS THIS CONTINUED THE ENTIRE TRUCK SHOOK TILL I FIGURED OK JUST PUMP THE GAS AND LET OFF BEFORE THE SHAKING GOT TO BAD. NOW THE SHAKING AS GOTTEN WORSE AND THE TRUCK SEEMS TO NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE AT ALL OR DOES A HARD STALL. IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A NEW LOW RANGE MOTOR...
AROUND 4A.M I SMELLED FROM MY ROOM SOMETHING BURNING I WOKE UP LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW & SAW FIRE COMING OUT OF MY 2000 F-150 PICK UP TRUCK FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WENT OUTSIDE & TOOK THE MATTER IN MY OWN HANDS I QUICKLY GOT THE HOUSE WATER HOSE & TURNED OFF THE FLAMES. THANK GOD FIRE DID NOT REACH ANY FUEL LINES NOBODY WAS INJURED & FIRE DID NOT REACH THE HOUSE. I WAS THINKING OF HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN IF MY TRUCK WAS NOT MOVED FOR 2 DAYS & WAS JUST PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOME. I WENT AHEAD & DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE & FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL 05S28-SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH FIRE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE SITUATION THEIR INFORMATION WAS FORWARDED TO THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

HAD DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES PARKED IN A LOWES PARKING LOT WENT INTO THE STORE FOR ABOUT 45MIN. ONLY TO COME OUT TO MY TRUCK ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY OFF AND NO ONE WAS IN IT, AND THERE ARE ONLY 2 SETS OF KEYS ONE IN MY POCKET AND THE OTHER AT HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED. PRIOR TO DRIVING THE 5 MILES IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN 2 DAYS. FORD SAYS IT'S NOT THERE PROBLEM AND INSURANCE ONLY WANTS TO GIVE US $3,700.00. MY HUSBAND IS A RETIRED VETERAN AND THIS WHOLE SITUATION HAS CAUSED HIS PTSD TO BE TRIGGERED.

FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO THE SCENE SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. I BELIEVE THIS FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH, OF WHICH THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST TWO RECALLS ON OF WHICH WE WERE NEVER INFORMED ABOUT. *TR
2000 FORD F150 PICKUP WAS PARKED ON THE STREET AT MY MOTHER IN LAW'S HOUSE. IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS WHEN WE HEARD THE HORN GOING OFF. WE LOOKED OUTSIDE AND THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE GREW SO QUICKLY AND HAD BURNED OUT THE WHOLE CAB BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT IT OUT. ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 4, 2011 MY TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT AT MY WIFE'S PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. THE TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING AND HAD NO MAJOR MECHANICAL ISSUES. THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND DAMAGED THE A MAJORITY OF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, IT IS TOTALED. I BELIEVE MY FORD TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING SYSTEM AND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE FLUID SYSTEM. WAS CALLED, AND ONE OF THE FIREMEN TOLD ME THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON THE FRONT OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. HE TOLD ME HE WAS AWARE OF A FORD RECALL ON THAT PART. I WAS NEVER MAILED ANY RECALL NOTICES!! THE FIRE MELTED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH/WIRING, MELTED THE PLASTIC BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, AND ALSO DAMAGED THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE MECHANIC ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL . THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE BUT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.

MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL DAYS ON A PARKING LOT NEXT TO MY RESIDENCE AND I WAS NOTIFIED BY EMPLOYEES FROM A NEARBY BUSINESS MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, HOWEVER NO FLAMES WERE OBSERVED. THE ORIGIN OF THE SMOKE WAS DETERMINED TO BE FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH LOCATED ON THE FRONT OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THE HEAT FROM THE FIRE HAD MELTED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AND WIRING AND HAD ALSO MELTED THE PLASTIC BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR TURN SIGNALS DUE TO THE FIRE. FORD HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR ANY DAMAGE ASSOCIATED FIRE CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. FORD STATED THEY WOULD ONLY PERFORM WORK ASSOCIATED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL AND NOT REPAIR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE DEFECTED SWITCH. *TR

HOW CRUISE CONTROL IS BAD AGAIN AND WELL HAVE TO REPLACE AGAIN AT MY COST AGAIN. FORDS FIX ISN'T A GOOD FIX. *TR

THE CARPORT WAS DAMAGED. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE INSPECTOR ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 112000.

THERE WAS NO INDICATION PRIOR TO THE EVENT THAT WOULD HAVE TIPPED US OFF THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN OUR CRUISE CONTROL WAS STILL OPERATIONAL. WE RECEIVED OUR RECALL NOTICE IN JANUARY 2005 AND WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN LATE MAY EARLY JUNE 2005 WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED TO HAVE IT SERVICED FOR SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THIS FIRE THAT WE FOUND OUT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT FIXED, OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, FARM BUREAU, DID AN INVESTIGATION AND THAT WAS THEIR FINDING.
