2019 FORD EXPEDITION Steering Problems

When you try to accelerate quickly, even when you’re switching lanes on the interstate or just driving down the road, the car will sometimes pop out of gear or something and almost comes to a complete stop causing you to almost get rear ended. I’ve almost been hit several times because the car stops and won’t go.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while his wife was driving on a neighborhood road at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver proceeded to pull over, and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic steering control module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

Was returning home from a drive on a freeway and noticed that car started shaking violently on right side rear of vehicle, like tires were loose, when I was close to the exit. Upon exiting freeway I noticed that vehicle at 20mph speeds+ (more noticeable at 25mph+) the car began shaking. Car shakes as well throughout braking. I took it to the tire shop to see if it was a tire issue or a balance issue, but the shop informed it wasn't a tire issue but possibly a CV related. Because I'm feeling the vibrations more from one side of vehicle, thinking it could be related to the toe link. Seeing car parked on driveway, it does seem to be leaning more to the right in the rear of the vehicle

The vehicle's steering wheel became very loose at ~50k miles making it wobbly and potential to fall off which could cause danger while driving and possibility of airbag deployment. As seen in the attached pictures, there was no thread locker on the bolt that tightens the steering wheel down. I was able to remove it simply with my hands upon a few twist.

1 . AFTER A LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO PULL LEFT (MEASURED AT ABOUT 4 POUNDS OF FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO HOLD STRAIGHT) UNTIL A RIGHT TURN IS MADE TO CANCEL THE LEFT PULL THEN IT TRACKS STRAIGHT. THERE WERE SIMILAR RESULTS ON RIGHT TURNS BUT WORSE ON LEFTS. 2 . THESE TESTS WERE ALSO DONE ON ANOTHER NEW FORD PLATINUM EXPEDITION IDENTICALLY EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME RESULTS (BOTH WITH HEAVY DUTY TOW PACKAGE) 3 . THE NEW EXPEDITION ABOVE DID SEEM TO REQUIRE A LITTLE LESS RIGHT CORRECTIVE PRESSURE THAN OUR EXPEDITION BUT THE LEFT PULL WAS APPROXIMATELY THE SAME 4 . THESE TESTS WERE DONE WITH AND WITHOUT LANE KEEPING WITH NO CHANGE TO THE RESULTS 5 . THESE TESTS WERE DONE WITH AND WITHOUT SWAY CONTROL WITH NO CHANGE TO THE RESULTS 6 .
