The contact stated that she notified a tow truck to jumpstart the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Pep Boys however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
INGINE LIGHT/SUSPENSION LIGHTS WENT ON. CAR JERKS AND SHAKES ON THE ROAD AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT MAKING IT HARD TO KEEP THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT
2016 FORD ESCAPE. CPONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.
My coolant leaked into the cylinders of my engine causing a complete engine failure. When this occurred, there was no warning lights, indicators or check engine notices to notify me that there was a problem with my engine. I was driving down the street & white smoke started billowing out of the back of my car. I was able to make it home but had to have it towed to the dealership. This is a known issue with Ford, with a current lawsuit pending, due to the design of the engine. I have been advised that there are technical bulletins distributed within Ford and the dealer acknowledged there was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening. My engine was already replaced due to the same defect when it had 34,000 miles on it. This was covered under warranty and the engine was replaced at a Ford dealership....
Jerking, unwanted jolting, locked up steering
Sice 2016 I've had numerous issues with this vehicle yet no one had told me about your website. Although some of the repairs on this vehicle were under safety bulletins I was never informed. The latest is that my engine light going off and on. I was told it was misfiring, had an appointment set up for repair and it overheated. The mechanic told me to get it to the dealership immediately so it was towed over. Only to find I needed an engine and that there are many Escapes this way. Another issue was the catalytic converters were bad there were there was only approximately 40 to 50,000 on the car at that time and the dealership refused to put it under the extended warranty saying it wasn't covered. However I believe the manager did it and was fired for it. Another issue what's the gas cap area, I...
On April 10, 2022, I received the check engine light indicator on my 2016 Ford Escape. I took the vehicle to a local mechanic to be inspected on April 15, 2022. I was informed after a diagnostic that my Vapor Canister Purge Valve was malfunctioning. I was told that the part could be ordered, but it was on backorder in excess of 4,000 orders. I have had the following problems that continue to put myself and other motorist in danger: I am unable to accelerate past 50MPH due to air build up in my engine causing engine stall outs on major roadways and intersections with the inability to restart the vehicle, as well as the inability to safely refuel my vehicle due to restart problems. My car has stalled out on major state highways and interstates, creating unsafe situations for myself and other motorists. Over the past 4 months I...
I had replaced my transmission at 100,000 mile mark. I have never had that happen in an older veichle. And when mine went it did the same thing with not going into park all the way. I paid out of pocket for it. And have kept up with oil changes and Maintance on my veichle, and now I am having problem with misfire and it is the head gasket and they garage put a camera down in it and the motor is cracked. I have had nothing but bad luck with this escape. I owe a lot of money on it still and cannot afford to put new motor in it. I’ve googled on the issue and I see other reviews of people having the same issue. I have receipts when I did the transmission and would like reimbursement for that and I would like to give my veichle back...
The driver owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact called on behalf of the wife, who drove into the driveway at approximately 2 MPH, the gear was put into the park; however, the vehicle inadvertently reversed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle stopped in the yard and was not diagnosed or repaired. The driver notified the manufacturer and was informed of a recall that would be coming out soon; however, they provided no more details or timeframe. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000
Kept saying it was over heating shutting down the motor chugging not gaining speed. Had all spark plugs and coil packs changed ran for 5 days and started dining it all over again.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH, there was smoke coming from the hood to the windshield. The contact pulled over and there were flames entering the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away since it was not driveable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,681.
Engine failed while traveling on state highway Had to coast to a safe parking area Vehicle started after several minutes Engine lights visible before engine failure as engine ran rough Incident occurred twice before returning home. Informed by service mechanic that vehicle needed a purge valve which the local Ford dealer has several valves on back order with no replacement date. Vehicle cannot be driven as losing engine power would be a disaster if I was on a heavily traveled highway. This vehicle has less than 30,000 miles.4
The Ford Escape has been a problem since I bought it the tranny went out at 110,000 and the head gasket blew at 140,000 still paying on the car with major problems
Turbocharger failed, leaking exhaust fumes directly into the car cabin. Turbocharger flange warped on the high heat exhaust side due to two of the three support bolts shearing off. Bolts failed because they were a dissimilar metal to the part they were threaded into, and the chemical process between the dissimilar metals weakened the overall strength of the bolts. Once the bolts sheared off, the flange face warped, allowing exhaust fumes to leak into the cabin. The exhaust fumes into the cabin were quite excessive, especially noticeable while parked, and caused headaches and lightheadedness for the occupants. This is a clear manufacturing defect, as any engineer knows not to mix metals in this fashion, and the result was very dangerous to the occupants.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving uphill at 35 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently started jerking. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he released the accelerator pedal and the failure stopped. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving uphill and while passing other vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that he would be responsible for the cost of the repair because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the VIN was not included in an unknown engine recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Car gets stuck in overdrive. I was told by someone it has something to do with the turbo boost
Blown head gasket. Class action lawsuit pending against current issue I am having due to setup of motor and allowing water to sit and deteriorate gaskets. Caused vehicle to overheat while driving. Confirmed by mechanic shop.
Experienced a vibration upon engine startup in April 2021 at about 60,000 miles, diagnostic from check engine light suggests that it was a cylinder misfire. I had it in to 4 different appointments before it was found that I have a bad head gasket, causing coolant to leak into the engine, damaging the engine and risking a catastrophe. Ford will not cover 100% of costs due to it being 4k out of warranty, so this is an out of pocket expense.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 65-70 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning. The vehicle loss motive power and stalled. The contact was unable to shift the vehicle into drive or reverse. The contact stated that the vehicle was revving abnormally. The vehicle was restarted and driven off the highway. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Engine block crack at 88,000 miles. Now deemed totaled and inoperable.
Cooling fan failure.. resulting in $1300 in repairs not needed and is now in shop for more money… to reapir

JANUARY 5, 2021 WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER AND JERK AND HESITATE. AND THIS HAPPENED AT 50 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE COULD SMELL WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS EXHAUST IN THE CAR. THEY USED THE DIAGNOSTICS AND DETERMINED THE NUMBER TWO IGNITION COIL AS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SPARK PLUG WAS ALSO REPLACED. ALSO WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DIAGNOSED THE BATTERY DIED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. COST $484. ***WE WERE BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP ON FEBRUARY 8TH WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS TIME THEY INFORMED US THAT THE NUMBER 2 AND 3 CYLINDERS WERE MISFIRING AND THAT THERE WAS THERE WAS COOLANT INTRUSION IN THE ENGINE. I WAS INFORMED IT WOULD COST ABOUT $900 JUST TO TAKE THE ENGINE OUT AND DO FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND THAT THE...

I OWN A 2016 FORD ESCAPE, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MILES AN HOUR, IT DOWNSHIFTED AND LOST POWER, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO MY DRIVEWAY, WHERE I PARKED IT. IT SHIFTED OUT OF PARK TO REVERSE, AND ROLLED BACKWARD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, THANK GOODNESS. I HAD TO TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. IT NEEDS TO HAVE A TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I HAVE READ OF MORE THAN 15 CASES ON THIS FORUM THAT ARE THE SAME AS MINE. I BELIEVE A RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN . I REACHED OUT TO FORD, THEY WILL NOT HELP ON REPLACEMENT COST OF 5000.00 REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, WHILE DRIVING AT UNDISCLOSED SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000. THE CONSUMER STATED SNOW WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE AT THE HATCH AND THE DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR.
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME AFTER DROPPING MY HUSBAND OFF AT WORK WHEN MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED AROUND AND HEADED TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION WITH FREE AIR. I DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 10 MINUTES AND WAS ONLY TWO BLOCKS FROM THE GAS STATION. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A MAIN ROAD DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. FROM A DEAD STOP, I ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 25 MPH, JUST GOT PAST THE INTERSECTION, WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE GAS PEDDLE STOPPED WORKING. I ONLY HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO MAKE IT ABOUT 50 FEET BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED COMPLETELY. LUCKILY, I MADE IT ALMOST ALL THE WAY INTO A LEFT TURN LANE. THE TRAFFIC PASSING WAS SO CLOSE THAT MY CAR SHOOK EACH TIME I WAS PASSED. I WAS TERRIFIED I'D...
CAR SHUTTERED TO A STOP AND WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AT ALL. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS JUST 100,000K MILES ON THE CAR. TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT PERFORMED. THE CAR LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY.
WHEN ROLLING TROUGH A TURN THEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDDLE, AT TIMES THERE IS NO POWER, ENGINE STALLS BUT DOES NOT SHUT OFF. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE APRIL AND IT IS GETTING WORSE.
HEAD GASKET WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF EXHAUST KEEP LOSING ANTI FREEZE. *TR
I BELIEVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH PREVIOUS MODELS OF FORD ESCAPES AND OTHER MODELS WITH THE RECALL BASED ON THE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSING BURNING AND FIRES IS STILL A RELEVANT ISSUE IN MODELS FURTHER. I BOUGHT MY 2016 FORD ESCAPE A YEAR AGO FROM CARMAX WITH 61K MILES. WITHIN ONE MONTH AND CONSTANT SERVICE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP BURNING COOLANT. NO LEAKS OR ANYTHING I PAID TO HAVE IT CHECKED BY THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS BECAUSE ALL OF THEM TOLD ME THERE HAD TO BE A LEAK. CARMAX STATES THAT THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN NOT COVER. BUT IT SEEMS TO NOT BE ANY PERSON AT FAULT. THERE ARE NO LEAKS I'VE HAD THE CAR INSPECTED. IT'S STILL RUNS A YEAR LATER, BUT CATCHES ON FIRE IF LEFT RUNNING IN PARK OR IDLE FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES. SMOKES A TON FIRST THEN SOMETHING IGNITES....
CAR ONLY HAS 80,000 AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, RATTLED.
MY CAR STOPPED WHILE DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET. AUTONATION FORD CLAIMED THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WHICH LED TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THEY WANTED $7K TO REPAIR. I TOOK IT ELSEWHERE FOR REPAIR AND WITHIN 1 WEEK AFTER REPAIR THE CAR ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING. I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE BUT HAD JUST EXITED TO A NEARBY RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS MELTED. THE CAR IS TOTALED AND HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY, ALLSTATE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT INDICATOR WAS DISPLAYED AS LOW. THE MECHANIC FILLED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
I HAVE A 2016 FORD ESCAPE 4WD. IT IS CONSISTENTLY STALLING WHEN DRIVING. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I PAID $22,000 FOR THE CAR AND IT IS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. THE INTERNET HAS SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2016 FORD ESCAPE. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR AS IT STALLS IN INTERSECTIONS WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC. FORD COMPANY IS STATING IF IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THEIR IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ACCEPT AN ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AT MY COST WHICH IS UPWARDS OF $6000. I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THE CAR AND IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO DO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING IS THE REPAIR. THEY KNOW THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON AND A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I GUESS THEY HAVE WEIGHED THE COST OF THE RECALL AND...
WHILE DRIVING FAULT ENGINE SERVICE NOW LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON TOOL IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A P1450 PURGE VALVE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DID THAT AND THE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND WHILE DRIVING IT LOSES ACCELERATION AS IF IT WANTS TO CUT OFF AND THE CAR KEEPS CUTTING OFF WHEN STARTING THE CAR THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR 2 OR MORE MONTHS
I HAVE NOTICED THAT AFTER APPLYING NORMAL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, THE ABS INDICATOR AND THE HILL ASSIST NOTICE APPEAR. ALSO ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH BOARD. ALSO, THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE WILL TORN ITSELF OFF AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MINUTES. I NOTICED THAT THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT. IT MAY COME ON AT OTHER TIMES WHILE I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE, BUT I NOTICE THE LIGHT WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE.
I'M NOT SURE BUT I FEEL LIKE THERE MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH MY FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NOT EVEN 2 YEARS AGO AND NOW I'M BEING TOLD THAT I EITHER NEED NEW TRANSMISSION OR TO HAVE MINE REBUILT AND THIS DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT'.HOW IS THAT A CAR THAT IS BARLEY 3 YEARS OLD, AND BOUGHT BRAND NEW NEEDS A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. I AM CONCERN BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD AND I AM CURRENTLY PREGNANT AND MY CAR IS SLIPPING IN OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREETS OF TOLEDO. I AM ON FIX INCOME THIS WHY I BOUGHT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A RELIABLE NEW CAR, I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO CORRECT FORD'S MISTAKE. I HOPE THIS MATER CAN BE LOOKED INTO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

WE FREQUENTLY DRIVE FROM MIDWAY, UT TO SALT LAKE CITY, UT ON I-80 WHERE THE HIGHWAY GOES THROUGH PARLEY'S CANYON AND EXPERIENCES 6-7% GRADES. WE WERE DRIVING HOME IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF I-80 WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR LOST SPEED FROM 70 MPH TO 40 MPH. WE TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO NO AVAIL. WE MOVED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND EXITED THE HIGHWAY. THE MESSAGE THAT DISPLAYED LISTED ENGINE OVERHEATING AS THE ISSUE BUT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED NORMAL TEMPERATURE. WE CONTACTED OUR FORD DEALER ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND LEARNED THAT THERE IS A SENSOR ON THIS CAR THE DETECTS POSSIBLE ENGINE OVERHEATING AND AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES YOUR SPEED. WE WROTE TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF WHAT WE BELIEVE IS POTENTIALLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHILE THIS MAY BE THE DESIGN POINT OF THE SENSOR, IT IS CERTAINLY DANGEROUS...
THE CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. IT HAS DONE THIS AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND SLOWER. CANNOT PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC FOR FEAR OF THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING.
AFTER THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COIL IN CYLINDER 2 LAST WEEK, THEY NOTED COOLANT IN THE CYLINDER. NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER, THE ENGINE IS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE CYLINDER. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CYLINDER AND CAUSE AN OIL LEAK WHICH CAN CAUSE FIRE. THE MECHANICS SAY THEY CAN DO NOTHING ELSE TO FIX IT AND FORD REFUSES TO FIX THE ISSUE. I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE IN EARLIER MODELS OF FORD ESCAPES AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS THE SAME ISSUE.
MY CAR HAD A PROBLEM IDLING LAST WEEK. GOT IT TO THE MECHANIC. MECHANIC TRIED TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUG DUE TO A PROBLEM IN THE CYLINDER BUT SPARK PLUG WAS FROZEN. FOUND COOLANT UNDERNEATH. MECHANIC HAD WORKED AS A MECHANIC AT A FORD DEALERSHIP, SAID THIS PROBLEM WAS PREVALENT WITH FORDS. I CONTACTED FORD. THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE SAID I HAD NO EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE PRODUCT SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE ONLY LONG-TERM FIX IS AN ENTIRELY NEW ENGINE BECAUSE COOLANT IS LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD.
I PULLED OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION TO TURN LEFT GOING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH WHEN MY FORD ESCAPE STALLED. THE ELECTRONICS REMAINED ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND IT DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT READ "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK". THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY ROLL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RESTART THE CAR FIRST TRY.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS 2016 FORD ESCAPE IN OCTOBER, 2018. IT MADE IT UNTIL MAR. 2019. NO WARNING LIGHT, NOTHING. IT HAS 78,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION BLEW. THEY ARE TELLING ME AT THE JENSEN FORD DEALERSHIP THAT IT WILL COST 6,508.00 DUE TO ALL THAT IS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN IT GETS HOT IT LEAKS TRANSMISSION FLUID BADLY. IT TOOK ONLY 2 DAYS AND NO WARNING AND IT BLEW. NOW I CAN'T PAY FOR IT, FORD WILL NOT PAY FOR IT AND I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD.
I BOUGHT MY '16 FORD ESCAPE OVER A YEAR AGO. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO JUST FINE WHEN TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IT WAS DRIVING WITHOUT ISSUES UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE IN MOTION THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIES. AGAIN I TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZZARD AS THE CAR COMPLETE GOES INTO A COST WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IT.
