DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE LOCAL MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WAS FILLED WITH SLUDGE AND THE PISTONS WERE WELDED TOGETHER IN THE HEAD GASKET. MY 2001 DODGE INTREPID ENGINE FAILED WHILE TRYING TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD LEAVING MY MOTHER HALF IN AND HALF OUT OF TRAFFIC. THE MECHANIC STATES THERE IS NO OIL WITHIN THE ENGINE. SHORTLY AFTER MY 2001 DODGE INTREPID REACHED 70,000, I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT IT SEEMED TO BE BURNING OIL. I HAD NOT NOTICED ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THE ENGINE FAILURE PROCESS THAT I WOULD EXPERIENCE. I HAVE CARED FOR THE CAR REGULARLY INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, BUT ALSO FOUND THAT THIS WOULD HAVE MADE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE OUTCOME. WE HAVE A DODGE 2001 INTREPID WITH THE 2.7 LITER MOTOR. ACCORDING TO OTHER MECHANICS AND PERSONNEL WITHIN THE DEALERSHIP, THERE ARE DEFECTS WITH THIS MOTOR THAT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADDRESS. SPOKE WITH DODGE CHRYSLER DEALERS, REPS AND SERVICE MANAGERS. THEY CLAIM THAT THE PROBLEM AT 47,000(APPROX.) IS DUE TO OWNER FAILURE NOT THE ENGINES. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ACKNOWLEDGE, FIX, REPAIR, REPLACE OR SETTLE THE ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE FAILURE.

WE HAVE A 2000 DODGE INTREPID WITH 68000 MILES ON IT. WE WERE IN NORTH CAROLINA ON VACATION AND THE CAR JUST QUIT FOR NO REASON. WE HAD IT TOWED TWICE AND THE LAST TIME WAS TO DODGE DEALER ON TOLD US IT WOULD COST AROUND $900.00 TO FIX IT BUT COULD NOT GIVE US THEIR WORD THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I AVE A 2001 DODGE INTREPID AND AT JUST UNDER100K THE ENGINE SEIZED UP AND BLEW THE HEAD GASKET. I THEN PURCHASED ANOTHER ENGINE THAT COST ME $2500 14 MONTHS AGO. THIS NEW ENGINE HAD 40K ON IT. THAT ENGINE HAS NOW SEIZED UP AND BLOWN THE HEAD GASKET.
