I BOUGHT MY 2001 DODGE INTREPID IN 2002 WITH 12,000. ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH NO WARNING MY ENGINE DIES.WHY IS A CAR THAT IS NOT EVEN 3 YEARS OLD DEAD. I JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE THE DAY PRIOR. NOW I AM TOLD THAT IT WILL COST 5500$ TO REPAIR IT. ONLY CHOICE IS NEW ENGINE. I HAVE LITTLE OVER 50,000 MILES, AND I OWE TOO MUCH TO NOT GET IT FIXED. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE CONTAINED SLUDGE BUILD UP AFTER HAVING THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER CHANGED. THE CONSUMER HAD THE ENGINE FLUSHED TWO TIMES TO IMPROVE THE SLUDGE PROBLEM. AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BLOWN AND CAUSED ENGINE DAMAGE. THE TIMING CHAIN WAS CHANGED AT THE DEALER WHO CHANGED THE TIMING TENSIONER. THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS PROBLEM IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES. (THE TUBE THAT BRINGS THE OIL UP INTO THE ENGINE CLOGS UP, RESULTING IN AN UNDER-OILED ENGINE, SHOWING THE FAULT BEING THE OWNERS) THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT CHRYSLER COVER THE COST OF THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. ALSO, THE BRAKES PULSATED AND THE TRUNK LOCK WAS BROKEN. *SC *JB

WHILE STOPPED, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE ENGINE SMOKING AND PULLED OVER. SHE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *JB
ENGINE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-60 MPH. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, WHO INDICATED THAT THIS OCCURRED DUE TO SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF OIL BUILD UP. THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THESE ENGINE SIZES. ALSO, BECAUSE THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE MECHANIC HAD HAVING DIFFICULTY REPLACING THE ENGINE. *AK

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK IT TO AUTO SHOP THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE GAS CAP BEING LOOSE. AFTER PURCHASING A NEW GAS CAP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS. RECENTLY CAR WOULD NOT START HAD TOWED TO TWO PLACES THEN TO DEALER WHO SAID THE TIMEING JUMPS AND THERE WAS SLUGE IN THE ENGINE QUOTED A PRICE OF 7000+ FOR REPAIRS THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE FLUSH AND REBUILT. *AK

2001 DODGE INTREPID- 60,000 MILES STILL UNDER WARRANTY ENGINE BLEW. ENGINE FULL OF SLUDGE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. LOG ON TO CHRYSLER COMPLAINTS AND READ ALL THE COMPLAINTS. OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THIS CAR, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO ADMIT TO IT. *JB

NOW WE ARE OUT A CAR WE STILL OWE ON FOR 3 MORE YEARS AS WE CANNOT AFFORD THE $7,000 WE ARE QUOTED FOR A NEW ENGINE. IT SEEMS THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT WITH THE 2.7L ENGINE. WHY HAS CHRYSLER BEEN ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS? EVEN IF THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AS OURS IS, AN ENGINE SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER. AS THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE SINCE STOPPED USING THIS ENGINE, AS IS MY UNDERSTANDING, THEY SHOULD REPLACE THESE FAULTY ENGINES.*AK
THE TIMING CHAIN AND TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER STARTED MAKING A CLATTERING NOISE IN MY 2000 DODGE INTREPID, IT HAS A 2.7 DOHC V6 ENGINE IN IT AND THE MILEAGE IS JUST OVER 58,000. THE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES AND THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AT THIS LOW A MILEAGE. THERE IS A LOT OF ENGINE OIL SLUDGE BUILDUP IN THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. HE SAID THAT CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES BUT ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS COSTING ME OVER $1,000 TO GET FIXED. LUCKILY I GOT IT INTO HIS SHOP BEFORE THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND COMPLETELY SCREWED UP MY ENGINE. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 DODGE INTREPID WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY CAR'S ENGINE STOPPED WORKING CAUSING MY POWER STEERING AND BRAKES TO GO. WHEN TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY WANTED $500.00 TO TAKE APART THE ENGINE BECAUSE AS THEY SAID THE CAR HAD NO OIL. AFTER TAKING THE ENGINE APART THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THE CAR DID HAVE OIL, BUT WAS BLOWN DUE TO SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. FAILURE CUSES ENGINE TO QUIT-OBVIOUSLY>RESULTANT LOSS OF POWER AND STEERING/BRAKING.

FIRST TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP - THEY PUT DRY GAS IN THE TANK (DEC/2002) SECOND TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP - THEY PUT FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN THE TANK (JAN./2003) THIRD TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP - THEY REPLACED THE #4 FUEL INJECTOR (JAN. 2003) FOURTH TIME TO THE DELAERSHIP - THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER MODULE (FEB./2003) FIFTH TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP - DID NOT FIX, CLEARED THE ERROR CODES.(FEB. 2003) DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE WOULD BE A RECAL NOTICE SENT SOMETIME IN MARCH/2003 SOMETHING ABOUT A CARBON BUILD UP IN THE CYLINDERS. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVNG IT UNTIL THE RECALL NOTICE COMES OUT, BUT THE CAR STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. (ENGINE ONLY HAS 19,700 MILES ON IT, UNDER 18,500 WHEN IT FIRST WENT IN).*JB
