Dealership still cannot pinpoint exactly what is wrong but the car does not start. One time it’ll start and the next it won’t. It’s actually left me stranded in the cold because that seems to be the only time it won’t start. It’s happened to many other grand caravan owners too. No mechanic I’ve taken it to can solve the problem I’ve spent so much money replacing parts on this car.

The TIPM failed which caused a loss of power to the vehicle and power to the fuel pump. I was driving at approximately 60 MPH when the vehicle lost all power and the steering wheel felt locked. I was unable to turn the steering wheel as the Dodge Grand Caravan came to a quick stop as if it was out of gas. Luckily I reacted quickly and was able to avoid an accident. After approximately 10 minutes of trying to restart the vehicle and drive to a safe location the vehicle restarted. This happened again when I was driving and came to a red light at a major intersection and the vehicle stalled out as if out of gas and the steering locked. This vehicle always fails to start in the colder weather. After a review of this condition. It has been found that the fuel pump relay does not send proper signal. This relay is a part of the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). When it fails to operate, the vehicle will experience long crank times. With its ignition switch style, as soon as you turn the key, the vehicle will continue to crank UNLESS you manually turn the switch all the way back to the off position. This condition will cause the starter motor to overheat or burn up. Eventually the vehicle may start then die. Fuel delivery is too inconsistent when colder weather arises. The tipm fuel pump relay is stuck causing the fuel pump to stay on even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is not in the ignition switch. This problem is, its dangerous if I was ever to be in an accident and fuel pump will stay on according to the mechanic. Also my car battery is drained after an hour making it undrivable until I call a tow or get a jump start. It was inspected by a mechanic and the vehicle is available for inspection. No warning lamps were on or previous symptoms before 4/30/21. Only the sound of a running fuel pump when the car is completely off. Mechanic states car is known to have this issue. Recalls were made for other dodge vehicles with same part number but they failed to include the this model.

THERE ARE TWO FACETS OF THIS ISSUE. FIRST ISSUE: IT BEGAN STARTING HARD BACK IN NOVEMBER IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT TURN OVER AND START. IT WILL OFTEN LEAVE US STRANDED MYSELF AND YOUNG CHILDREN FOR 20-45 MINUTES WAITING FOR IT TO START.SECOND ISSUE: THE FUEL PUMP WILL REMAIN RUNNING WHEN VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND CONTINUE TO RUN TILL BATTERY IS DEAD. ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED IN PAST YEAR AND HAS BEEN TESTED TO BE GOOD, BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN TWO YEARS. WHEN DIAGNOSED BY A DODGE DEALERSHIP THE ISSUE IS SAID TO BE A POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE WHICH COSTS $1,008.00 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. THE PART IS ORDERED BUT ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL.

VEHICLE STALLS/DIES WHILE DRIVING. MY FAMILY WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND THE DODGE CARAVAN JUST DIED. LIGHTS STILL WORKED BUT ENGINE SUDDENLY QUIT RUNNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY ON CITY STREETS AND 3 TIMES ON THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPENS AT SLOW AND FAST SPEEDS. IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND SCARY. WE HAD A FUEL PUMP RELAY BYPASS INSTALLED AS WE'VE READ THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM. BUT VEHICLE STILL DIES WHILE DRIVING. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT OR KILLED. PLEASE HELP!

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND SUGGESTED THE CONTACT FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THE PART COULD NOT BE BOUGHT AT A LOWER PRICE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FROM SOME PLACE OTHER THAN THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH DODGE AND RELATED CHRYSLER VEHICLES ACCORDING TO OUR MECHANIC. BASICALLY THE TIPM--TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE IS BAD AND THIS CAUSES AMONG OTHER SYMPTOMS: VEHICLE NOT STARTING, ISSUES WITH ELECTRIC CONTROLS(LIGHTING), ISSUES WITH FUEL SYSTEM(FUEL PUMP OR RELAY) OUR VEHICLE HAD ISSUES STARTING. ESPECIALLY DURING WINTERTIME THIS HAPPENED. AND HAVING REPLACED THE BATTERY NEW AND ALSO HAVING ENSURED SPARKPLUGS ARE NEW, THOSE ISSUES WERE RULED OUT. STARTER ISSUE ALSO WERE RULED OUT BOTH BY OBVSERVATION AND MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY AND INTERMITTENT SUCCESSES IN STARTING, UP TO THE POINT THAT IT DIDN'T START ANYMORE ON 12/10/2018. THE STARTER IS TURNING BUT ENGINE DOESN'T START.
