THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE AIR VENTILATION FILTER FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE AIR VENTILATION FILTER WAS NOT SOLD SEPARATELY AND THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY) AND WAS REPAIRED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
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

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. WE ARE HAVING AN ISSUE WERE THE FUEL WILL NOT SHUT OFF AT THE PUMP. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THAT YEAR, BUT SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH OUR VIN # DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL. WE HAD THE FUEL TANK REPLACED IN JANUARY OF 2008 UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TANKS AND THEIR MANUFACTURING PROCESS. CONCERN IS THE TANK WAS REPLACED WITH A DEFECTIVE TANK THAT WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE RECALL TIME FRAME, BUT CONCERNED IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BECAUSE THE VIN # DOES NOT FALL WITH IN A CERTAIN MANUFACTURING DATE. I AM GREATLY CONCERNED DUE TO THE RECALL STATING THAT THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE FIRE. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR DODGE TO RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE. *TR
UPON FUELING GAS TANK UNTIL FILL, GAS TANK SPEWS GASOLINE OUT OF FILLER TUBE. TOOK IT IN TO INSPECTION, AND WAS REJECTED, DUE TO SLIGHT EMISSIONS LEAK. FAILED INSPECTION. TOOK TO DIAGNOSTICS CENTER AND HAD SMOKE TEST. RESULTED IN A SLIGHT LEAK THAT CAN NOT BE FOUND. ADVISED TO HAVE TOTAL FUEL TANK AND REFILL ASSEMBLY REPLACED AT $700 +. CALLED CHRYSLER RECALL HOTLINE, AND VIN DID NOT MATCH FOR POTENTIAL RECALL POTENTIAL. *TR

GASOLINE WAS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF MY CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE ATTENDANT WAS NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PUMP HANDLE. THE SECOND TIME I HAD THE CAR REFUELED AT COSTCO, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, IT WAS EVEN MORE OF A SPILL AND HELD UP THE REFUELING OF OTHER VEHICLES FOR QUITE SOME TIME WHILE THE ATTENDANT MOPPED UP THE SPILT FUEL ON THE SIDE OF MY CAR AND GROUND. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THEM. THEY CHECKED MY VIN # WITH RECALL NOTICES REGARDING THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A DODGE DURANGO IN 2007. AT THE TIME THE CAR HAD 24000 MILES. AROUND 2009 THE CAR WHEN I FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS AND REMOVED THE PUMP HANDLE FROM THE DURANGO THE GAS WOULD OVERFLOW ALL OVER. SO IN 2009 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IN NORTH FLORIDA AVE. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO RECALLS FOR THIS CAR. AT THIS POINT THE CAR HAD 29,000 MILES. UP TO THIS DATE I STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2010, 2011, AND 2012 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY STILL TELL ME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. SO I DECIDED TO LOOK ONLINE FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I AM FILLING UP MY GAS TANK AT A GAS STATION, THE PUMP WILL KICK OFF WHEN FULL AND A FEW SECONDS AFTER YOU CAN HEAR FUEL RUSHING UP THE TUBE AND THEN SPRAYS OUT ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ON THE GROUND. GASOLINE WAS EJECTED FROM MY FILL TUBE AT THE GAS STATION. AFTER FILLING THE TANK THE GAS NOZZLE CLICKED TO STOP AND FUEL SHOT OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE COVERING ME AND MY CAR IN GASOLINE. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME THE CAR IS FILLED. *TR I UNDERSTAND CHRYSLER/DODGE HAS RECOGNIZED THIS PROBLEM IN MANY VEHICLES BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED.
WHEN THE GAS TANK IS BEING FILLED THERE IS NO LONGER A SHUT OFF THAT OCCURS THUS GAS OVERFLOWS ON CAR, PERSON AND GAS STATION FLOOR. *TR
I ASKED THE GAS ATTENDANT TO FILL UP THE TANK. AFTER ABOUT HALF A MINUTE OR SO, GAS SPRAYED OUT OF THE TANK. I WOULD ESTIMATE HALF A GALLON OF GAS OR SO WAS SPRAYED OUT ONTO THE CAR AND GROUND. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE GAS PUMP NOZZLE. DID FILL UPS AT THREE DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND SAME RESULT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT ONLY THE 4.7S ARE BEING RECALLED NOT THE 5.7S FOR THE GAS TANK'S RETURN VALVE MALFUNCTION WHICH CAUSES THE SPRAY. *TR

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,435. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A FLAW IN THE FUEL TANK AND A BAFFLE THAT WAS LOOSE. THE BAFFLE BLOCKED THE FUEL GOING THROUGH THE ENGINE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.

EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE AS REPORTED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V003000 - FUEL-SPIT BACK PROBLEMS CAUSED BY STUCK INLET CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBES. WHEN FILLING UP THE TANK THE FUEL SPITS OUT. THIS ISSUE OCCURS REGULARLY UPON FILL UP. THE FUEL SPITS OUT ONTO VEHICLE, GAS STATION PAVEMENT, AND CLOTHING. WE HAD OUR GAS TANK REPLACED ON OUR VEHICLE ON 7/24/08 AND CHRYSLER THEN HAD A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FUEL INLET VALVE ISSUE, WHICH WAS THE PROBLEM THAT WE WERE HAVING. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS NOW. IT HAS A PERSISTENT AND VERY UNSETTLING PROBLEM OF STALLING FOR NO APPARENT REASON WITH NO CORRESPONDING WARNING LIGHTS ETC.
