WHILE DRIVING MY CAR STALLS OUT, I KEEP HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BALL JOINTS, MY SWAY BAR OR CHAIN HAS BUSTED, SEAT BELT FOR DRIVER WILL NOT RETRACT, RUST AND EROSION HAS BEEN SO BAD THAT I ACTUALLY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY, AND I HAVE NO HEAT.
NUT CAME OFF LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING CAUSING WHEEL TO COME OFF VEHICLE. WHEN PICKING UP PIECES, I NOTICED THAT THERE IS NO COTTER KEY TO KEEP THE NUT FROM BACKING OFF. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS.
THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO STEER IT ALSO HAS A PROBLEM DISENGAGING THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE THE VEHICLE'S TIRES IN THE FRONT RUB AGAINST THE WHEEL WELLS CAUSING UNEVEN TREAD WEAR THE VEHICLE IS DEEMED UNSAFE ALSO DUE TO THE VEHICLE'S SUSPENSION BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT IN THE TIE RODS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE ARE LOOSE CAUSING A OVER COMPENSATION AND UNDER COMPENSATION FOR STEERING POSSIBLY RESULTING IN FATALITY ULTIMATELY DUE TO A BAD LANE CHANGE FORCING THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE ENDING UP ULTIMATELY IN FATALITY.
ONCE I WAS DRIVING FOR 5-10 MINS THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN. ALSO THE FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES NOISE. WHEN IM STOPPING IN A RED LIGHT MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT MOVES BACK AND FORWARD. *TR
THE FRONT TIRES WORE OUT VERY QUICKLY, WE REPLACED THE TIRES AND WITHIN A YEAR THEY WORE OUT AGAIN. ALIGNMENT HAS NOT HELPED. WE TOOK IT IN AND FOUND OUT THE BALL JOINTS ARE BAD. $1000 REPAIR. *TR
RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN GREAT SHAPE INSIDE AND OUT, RUNS GREAT..THE DEALER DID THE STATE INSPECTION ON IT AND REPLACED BOTH SIDE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AND THE RIGHT FRONT HUB/WHEEL BEARING.NOW 3 WEEKS LATER UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOIN ON ONE SIDE NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN..THIS IS RIDICULOUS, I HAVE RESEARCHED AND SEEN ALL THE COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM AND AM DUMB FOUNDED NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. I BOUGHT MY DURANGO IN MARCH OF 2011 FROM A DEALERSHIP WITH NO WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN A MONEY PIT. MY MAIN CONCERN WAS HOW BAD THE SUSPENSION IS ON THIS TRUCK, AROUND AUGUST I WAS DRIVING AND THE PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD COMPLETLY BROKE, THANKFULLY I WASN'T GOING FAST SO I HAD CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. SO WHEN I FIXED THE TIE ROD I DID BOTH BECAUSE I DIDN'T WAN'T THE SAME THING HAPPENING AGAIN SO WHILE GETTING THE TIE ROD FIXED THE LOWER PASSENGER BALL JOINT FALLS OFF SO I WOUND UP DOING A PAIR OF THOSE ALSO, SO WHEN I GET THE GREASE FITTINGS GREASED, THE MECHANIC TELLS ME I NEED SWAY BAR LINKS REALLY BAD SO I DO THOSE ALSO. SO ALL THESE PROBLEMS, AND I HAVE TO PAY A MONTHLY NOTE FOR THIS PIECE...

THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 138,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 DODGE DURANGO SLT. WHILE DRIVING 10-30 MPH THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND SHIFTED OUT OF SECOND GEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED FROM FIRST TO THIRD GEAR AND THE RPMS INCREASED UP TO 34000. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWENTY MINUTES AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER REFUSED TO OFFER HIM ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE. THE DURANGO WHICH IS A 1999 MODEL RECENTLY BROKE 100,000 MILES, AFTER IT HIT THAT 100.00 MILE MARK I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING HAD AT LEAST 1/2 IN. OF PLAY. I TOOK THE DURANGO IN TO A TIRE PLACE TO HAVE MY TIRES REPLACED AND THEY TOLD MY THAT THE TIE RODS WERE BAD. THAT WAS AROUND CHRISTMAS. NOT TOO LONG AGO I REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE ON THE TRUCK COSTING ME ALMOST $400.00!! THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT I WAS ABOUT A WEEKS WORTH OF DRIVING AWAY FROM BEING PUT IN A DITCH BECAUSE MY TIE RODS WERE IN SUCH BAD CONDITION. I HAVE 99 DODGE DURANGO I HAVE HAD IT SINCE 2004 THEN I HAVE HAD TO PUT OVER 3,000 INTO THE FRONT END. I HAVE HAD THE BALL JOINTS (UPPER AND LOWER) REPLACED. MY BALL JOINTS BROKE THE FIRST TIME AND MY CAR ALMOST CRASHED INTO A TREE. I WAS JUST DOING 60 DOWN A HIGHWAY. THE CAR INTERMITTENT STALLS WHILE RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55MPH OR AFTER IDLING AT STOP LIGHT & TURNING LEFT (POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND CAR BLOCKS INTERSECTION/TRAFFIC) - "NO BUS" APPEARS ON MILEAGE, EVERYTHING SHUTS OFF. SEEMS TO HAPPENS ON DAYS WHEN THE ENVIRONMENTAL TEMPERATURE EXCEEDS 75 DEGREES AND DISAPPEARS ONCE CAR HAS SAT (WHEREVER IT STALLED) FOR 20-30MINUTES. NO DIAGNOSTIC CODE APPEARS WHEN PUT THE CAR IS PUT ON THE COMPUTER AND I WAS ADVISED BY MORE THEN ONE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO GET WORSE AND PRODUCE A CODE BEFORE DEALERSHIP OR ANYONE ELSE COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. IN JANUARY OF 05 HAD TO HAVE BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED, CONTROL ARM, FRONT BRAKES AND NEW TIRES AS A RESULT OF BAD F/E SUSPENSION. NOW TODAY THE SPEED SENSOR (AND I AM HOPING THAT'S IT) HAS GONE OUT ON THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD TWO WINDOW MOTOR FAILURES, A SUDDEN DROP IN OIL PRESSURE CAUSING THE TRUCK TO STALL AND THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE SINCE JANUARY OF THIS YEAR REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND THEY RESPONDED TELLING ME THAT THEY HADN'T HAD ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO ISSUE A RECALL. (2) WHILE DRIVING, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY COLLAPSED CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL. VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD, WENT THROUGH A UTILITY POLE, ROLLED TWICE CAUSING A TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OFF THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY, HOWEVER WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD. *JB IN ADDITION TO THE BROKEN TIE ROD ALL FOUR BALL JOINTS WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEMS HIS VEHICLE WAS HAVING WAS NOT CURRENTLY RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO TOLD THAT HIS REPAIR COST COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED BECAUSE THEY WERE MADE AT A NON DODGE DEALER. *NM
WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON AN WENT OFF THEIR OWN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS ON RECALL FOR THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. 1999 DODGE DURANGO OWNER - IN JANUARY - UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT - FAILED INSPECTION - LOCAL MECHANIC NOTICED A LOT OF PLAY IN BALL JOINTS. REPLACED UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AND COST $750.00. *JB NOW FRONT LEFT BEARING - TIRE ALMOST CAME OFF -NO PRIOR GRINDING ETC. NEW TIRE RUBBING ON FRONT END PARTS JULY 01/04. *JB
I BEGAN HEARING A HORRID SQUEAL IN THE REAR WHEELS OF MY 1999 DODGE DURANGO. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER WHO SAID THE JOINTS WERE WORN, AND IT WOULD BE OVER $1500 TO FIX IT, AND IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL, BUT HAD NOT BEEN. I HAD TWO JOINTS REPLACED FIXED AT ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP, BUT NOW THE SQUEALING HAS STARTED AGAIN, AND ALSO IS ACCOMPANIED BY THE FRONT END SHAKING WHEN I DRIVE OVER 50 MPH.*AK
EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS AND BALL JOINTS ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION
UPPER BALL JOINT ON RIGHT SIDE, VERY LOOSE DIDN'T PASS STATE INSPECTION... I HAD JUST HEARD OF A NEW MEDIA REPORT NO MORE THAN A WEEK AGO REGARDING A PROBLEM OF BALL JOINTS SNAPING. I CAN'T GET ANY IMFORMATION FROM RECALL CENTER OR DEALERSHIPS... THANK YOU
WE JUST HAD THE RIGHT HUB BEARING CHANGED IN MAY 2003. NOW THE SAME BEARING IS BAD AGAIN AND THE TIE ROD ENDS ARE GOING BAD AND THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS (THESE PROBLEMS ARE ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE) IT JUST SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS AN AWFUL LOT OF PROBLEMS FOR A TRUCK THAT IS ONLY 4 YRS OLD. THE EXTENDED WARRENTY I BOUGHT ON IT DOESN'T COVER ANY THING BUT THE HUB BEARINGS. WE BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE WE NEEDED A FAMILY SIZE VEHICHLE, NOW I'M AFRAID TO PUT MY KIDS IN IT.
BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH 44,490 MI, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN ONE MILE OF THE DEALERS LOT. IT WAS FIXED AT NO COST TO ME, BUT IT CAME ON THREE MORE TIMES ON DIFFERENT DAYS. NOW THERE IS SOME KIND OF NOISE IN THE REAR END OR BRAKES, NOT ALL THE TIME THOUGH. THE FRONT TIRES WERE BAD, BUT HAD GOOD TREAD, THOSE ARE MY EXPENSE ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT, BUT I MADE A BAD MISTAKE BUYING THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER DID NOT TELL ME THAT THESE VEHICLES WERE UNDER INVESTGATION BY NHTSA
1999 DODGE DURANGO WITH 42,000 MILES - FAULTY BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS - BOTH INNER TIED RODS - WATER PUMP - EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR EVEN THOUGH THE TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY 6,0000 MILES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH I HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM UNDER MY 1999 DURANGO, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FIRESTONE, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT HAD FELL FROM IT'S HOUSING, SO I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, COTTMAN. THE SHOP INFORMED ME OF THE FOLLOWING, THE YOKE AND THE BOLT THAT RETAINED THE DRIVE SHAFT IN THE TRANSFER CASE HAD BROKEN OFF SOME HOW, DUE TO THIS OCCURRENCE, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS DAMAGED, BECAUSE ALL OF THE OIL LEAKED OUT. ALSO IN 2003, HAD TO HAVE THE BALL JOINTS REPLACE AND, ALSO THE ENGINE HEAD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING TO MUCH OIL AND DAMAGE THE HEADS.*JB
CONSUMER LEARNED THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND A FRAME BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *PH
MY DURANGO LOST CONTROL FOR NO REASON ON A SUUNY, CLOUDLESS DAY 4-24-01. I WAS TURNING THE VEHICLE LEFT AND IT SUDDENLY WENT RIGHT THROWING ME INTO A GUARD RAIL AND DOWN A BLUFF, BREAKING MY BACK. AFTER WATCHING CBS NEWS TWO WEEKS AGO, I REALIZED IT WAS SUSPENSION FAILURE COMPLAINED ABOUT BY HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS.*AK
THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. *PH THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD ON 2 OCCASIONS THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE IN CRITICAL CONDITION. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THE REPAIRS. *SC
