2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY Electrical System Problems

I was driving from getting my daughter from school and felt heat and saw smoke coming from under the dashboard. I immediately pulled over and pulled my daughter out of the car the dashboard became engulfed in flames. I was told by the fire department that it looked like and electrical and fuel issue under the dash. There are known problems with this vehicle catching fire but my cin number when I looked up recalls did not have any on it. My insurance company also stated they had many claims against the make model of vehicle regarding fire issues do to manufacturers issues.

Multiple times the van will intermittently stall while driving down the road or stopped in traffic. First the dash lights flicker, speedometer and rpm gages go to 0, and warning lights such as esp, traction, abs, airbag, battery etc flicker on and off and occasionally hear almost a spark through radio speakers, then everything shuts off, both electrical and mechanically. When that happens I lose power steering and cannot get my hazards or brake lights to work. ABS/TCS/EBP/ESP warning lights all illuminate during system check at 8mph. Diagnostic code C2200 - Internal Module Fault. Ongoing issue. Appears to be ambient temperature related. My van has a failing TIPM and apparently this is a common thing with these vans. It causes the horn to sound, wipers to start even when the vehicle is parked with no one in it and the engine off. It also causes the vehicle to shut off the fuel pump causing the vehicle to shut off while driving. Chrysler is well aware of this and refuses to issue a recall, even though this is something that happens to many of their 2008 vehicles.

I HAD A RECALL FOR THE IGNITION KEY FIXED BY CHRYSLER/ DODGE AND WHEN I GOT IT BACK I HAD FUZES POPPING AND THE SLIDING DOORS QUIT WORKING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR 15 DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL CODES INCLUDING ONES FOR THE DVD PLAYER. THEY CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO SHORT OR ANYTHING IN THE WHOLE VEHICLE AND THERE ISNT. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. NOW THE WHOLE VEHICLE HAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND FUZES KEEP POPPING FOR NO REASON.

THE WIRES BECAME LOSE AND UNRAVELED IN MY POWER SLIDING DOORS ON BOTH SIDES. NOW THE DOOR DO NOT WORK/OPEN ON THEIR OWN THE WINDOWS WON'T GO DOWN, HEATED SEATS DO NOT WORK. AND WHEN I TRY TO OPEN THE DOOR AND SHUT THE DOOR, ALL OF MY DASH LIGHTS WILL TURN ON, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL GO ON

WIRING RUNNING AT BOTH BACK DOORS GET CAUGHT UP IN DOOR TRACK AND BREAK. THIS CAUSES WINDOWS AND DOORS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS TO MALFUNCTION. SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING ALONG WITH MILEAGE. THIS KILLS BATTERY REQUIRING YOU TO JUMP VEHICLE OFTEN. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST YEAR, LOSING DIFFERENT THINGS AS TIME GOES BY.

THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS DEFECTIVE AND THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS 3 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. FCA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE AND THIS IS A RECALL OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM, AFFECTING MY MAKE & MODEL YEAR BUT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT APPLY TO THE RECALL. HOW CAN THIS BE?

VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING, WARNING LIGHTS COME ON.

THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING IN THE HIGHWAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON AN THE ALL PANEL LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH MAKE LIKE A WHISLE NOISE AND SHUT OFF. AFTER A WHILE IT STARTS AGAIN BUT IN ABOUT 2,000 METERS DO THE SAME FOUR TIMES. WE NEED TO CALL A TRUCK CRANE. I HAVE READ A LOT OF PERSON WITH THIS ISSUE, SPENT A LOT OF MONEY REPLACING VARIOUS PIECES AND REMAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES EVEN THOUGH THE KEY WAS OUT OF THE IGNITION! IT FINALLY STOPPED, ALL THE WASHER...

THE REAR LIFTGATE CANNOT BE OPENED MANUALLY WHEN THERE IS A FAULT FROM LOSS OF SIGNAL. THIS SHOULD NEVER EVER HAPPEN AS ALL LIFTGATE SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE OPERATED AND OPENED MANUALLY. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE DESIGN BY THE ENGINEERS.

WHEN DRIVING FOR A SHORT TRIP OR LONGER, WHEN SHOPPING OR NOT IN USE, THE CAR WILL NOT START ON 1ST, 2ND OR 5TH TRY. REPLACED BATTERY, STARTER 4 MONTHS AGO. THIS OCCURS WITH NO WARNING AND NO SPECIAL TIME, IT CAN HAPPEN NOW, A WEEK FROM NOW AND MONTHS-FROM NOW. I BELIEVE IT'S THE IGNITION SWITCH. THERE WAS NO WAY IT WAS OVERHEATING THAT QUICKLY AFTER STARTING. DEALER HAS REFUSED TO LOOK AT OTHER POSTINGS ONLINE THAT SUGGEST THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM, AND UNRELATED TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM.

THE CARS ALARM GOES OFF AND WINSHIEILD WIPERS AND SQIRTS WINDSHEILD WASHER FLUID WHEN CAR IS OFF AND ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT STOP IS DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. ALSO WHEN WE WERE ON TGE EXPRESSWAY THE WINDSHEILD WIPERS WENT OFF AND THE MINIVANS BRAKES WENT ON BY THEMSELVES.
