TWO EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD ROTTED AND SHEERED OFF AND ONE OTHER DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AS RUSTED AND JUST BROKE OFF AT THE HEAD OF THE BOLT. THIS BOLT FAILURE COULD CAUSE MANY ISSUES, ONE BEING, POSSIBLE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, OR CATALYTIC FAILURE, O2 SENSOR ISSUES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON. *TR
AS MILLIONS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM MY 2002 CHEVY 6.0LTR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEADS ARE SNAPPING OFF AND BURNED THE GASKET OUT WHICH NOW FIRE SHOOTS OUT THE GAP AND THE EXHAUST IS NOW FILLING UP IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND TRAVELING INTO THE CAB. ALSO NOT TO MENTION THE EMISSIONS THAT ARE NOT BEING DISPLACED PROPERLY AND THAT IT IS RUINING MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NOT ONLY DOES THIS POSE A HUGE FIRE RISK THE FLAME THAT SHOOTS OUT IS DIRECTED RIGHT AT THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR AND IS BURNING IT, SOMEONE SOMEWHERE HAS SWEPT THIS PROBLEM UNDER THE RUG IT'S TIME TO ADDRESS THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PERFORMING ROUGHLY. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER COOLING DOWN. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V52100 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS BEING REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE VEHICLE DIES OUT, AND QUITS RUNNING. IT THEN BECOMES HARD TO STEER AND STOP. IT TAKES ABOUT 2 TO 5 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING BACK UP, SOMETIMES MAYBE EVEN LONGER. IT DIES OUT ANY WHERE FROM 2 TO 3 TIMES A DAY, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG AND FAR I AM DRIVING. THE SPEED VARIES FROM 10 MPH UP TO 75 MPH. *TT
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD LT EXT. CAB LB7 DURAMAX 5 SPEED ALLISON TRANSMISSION, IT HAS 114000 MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED AS DIRECTED SINCE NEW. THE TRUCK STARTED USING LOTS OF FUEL, AT AN IDLE IT SERGED BETWEEN 700 & 900 RPM'S, AND OIL STARTED BLOWING OUT THE BLOWBY TUBE. I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT 3 FUEL INJECTORS ARE LEAKING FUEL, WITH A POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET LEAK,FILLING MY CRANKCASE WITH DIESEL, CAUSING OIL TO BLOW OUT ALL OVER THE TRUCK, ROAD AND WHATEVER ELSE IT CAN LAND ON. WHILE INVESTIGATING WHAT TO DO, TO FIX THE TRUCK I'VE FOUND 3 OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW THAT HAVE DURAMAX'S, AND THEY ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEMS. I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 HD WITH THE 8.1 (8100 VORTEC) ENGINE. I HAD BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING PERIODICALLY. IT BECAME A FREQUENT PROBLEM. I HAD THE VEHICLE SCANNED AT A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE WITH NO FAULT CODES SHOWING. I LEARNED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS AT FAULT BY DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH. I ALSO LEARNED THE SAME ENGINE HAD A RECALL IN 2001 AND NOT 2002 THE FACT THE VEHICLE STALLS DURING OPERATION IS A SERIOUS HAZARD . I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH 8.1L ENGINE. THE TRUCK HAS STARTED STALLING (ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN) WHILE I AM DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 7 OR 8 TIMES NOW. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN OR HOW FAST YOU MAY BE GOING. ON 01/10/2010 AT 2:45 A.M. WE WERE AWAKENED BY A PASSER BY WHO NOTICED OUR TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT IT HAD COMPLETELY DESTROYED OUR TRUCK, OUR CAR ,OUR GRANDSONS TRUCK AND $66,000.00 DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE WE WERE RENTING. WE GAVE THEM ALL THE FIRE REPORTS FROM BOTH WEST VALLEY CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE REPORT AND PICTURES PROVIDED BY THE INVESTIGATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
CHEVY 2002 SILVERADO, WITH 8.1L ENGINE, STALLS WITHOUT WARNING RANDOMLY. FOUND PROBLEM CODE P0335 LOGGED ON DIAGNOSTIC ANALYZER (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT A). CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEAR 2001, BUT NOT 2002. SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR THIS WEEK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY SHUT OFF. AT TIMES, IT WOULD RUN VERY ROUGH BUT IT WOULD JUST SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. HE HAD TO SIT AND WAIT A PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE HE COULD RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWELVE TIMES SINCE JULY 2009. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC SUSPECTED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR; THE MECHANIC COULD NOT PRODUCE ANY CODES AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500HD PICKUP WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE WITH JUST OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY, WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN, DARIK SMOKE WOULD COME FROM THE EXHAUST. I CONTACTED GMC, THEY SET UP A CASE FILE AND GOT BACK TO ME IN ABOUT A WEEK TO TELL ME THAT I WAS BEYOND THE 7 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SO THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAD ABOUT 1/2 OF THE 200,000 MILES COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T SEEM TO COUNT FOR ANYTHING. UPON STARTING MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH DURAMAX ENGINE TO MOVE IT BACKWARDS 40 FEET TO HOOKUP A TRAILER, I HAD NO APPARENT POWER ASSIST ON BRAKES OR STEERING.
