EVERY 2500 MILE AFTER A OIL CHANGE I GET A LOW OIL ENGINE LIGHT AND HAVE TO ADD A QUART IN A HALF OF OIL TO TOP IT OFF AGAIN. AFTER DOING GM'S OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THREE TIMES GM TELLS ME THAT THE DEALER THAT I WAS BRING MY TRUCK TO FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST STATED THAT I WAS DRIVE MY TRUCK TO HARD ARE I WAS PULLING SOMETHING. *TR
VEHICLE STABILITRACK AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE ONTO A HIGHWAY ACCELERATION RAMP, THE CAR STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE ENGINE DIED. COULD NOT UNLOCK THE POWER STEERING. I WAS TOWING A HORSE TRAILER WELL WITHIN THE GROSS WEIGHT FOR THE VEHICLE. I HAD A HORSE IN THE TRAILER AT THE TIME. I ALSO HAD CHILDREN IN THE CAR. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AND PULL INTO A SAFER AREA. I WAS NOT ABLE TO TOW THE TRAILER HOME BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CAR HESITATED AND CHUGGED ALONG SURGING INTO EACH GEAR. WHILE AT A STOP THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THE ENGINE SPUTTERED. I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR SO THE CAR ENGINE WOULD NOT DIE. THE TRANSMISSION...
THE A/C FAN QUIT. IT SMELLED LIKE BURNING PLASTIC. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE FREEWAY SAFELY AND I HAVE ENOUGH ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE A WAY TO CONTINUE SAFELY. IT WAS A FIRE HAZARD WAITING TO HAPPEN INSIDE THE CAB. THE RESISTOR WAS EXTREMELY HOT AND THE WIRING HARNESS WAS MELTED. THERE WERE NO BLOWN FUSES. I PULLED FUSES TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF FIRE. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY ATTEMPTED TO DEAL WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALER NEAREST DFW, TX AIRPORT AND GM OVER MY BAD ENGINE BLOCK (ALSO REPORTED ON THIS FORUM) AND ........ SO I AM OUT THE MONEY FOR THIS FIRE HAZARD TOO. THIS IS THE LAST GM PRODUCT I WILL EVER OWN. *TR
AROUND THE TIME MY TRUCK HIT THE 42000 MILE MARK THE OIL LOW INDICATOR WARNING ILLUMINATED ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER SINCE IT WAS WELL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER BEGAN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO GO THROUGH OIL REGULARLY. SOMETIMES JUST HALF A QUART BUT SOMETIMES AS MUCH AS 1 1/2 QUARTS. THE DEALERSHIP DID WORK ON THE ENGINE 6 MONTHS INTO THIS ISSUE BUT THAT DID NOT STOP THE OIL CONSUMPTION. AFTER DEALING WITH THEM FOR OVER 12 MONTHS, AND THE LOW OIL LIGHT COMING ON 2 MORE TIMES, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK AND ACCORDING TO GM SPECS, CONSUMING 1 QUART OF ENGINE OIL EVERY 2000 MILES, WAS ACCEPTABLE. I CALLED AND COMPLAINED TO THE GM CORPORATE OFFICES BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT CONTRADICT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THEY WERE THE ONES...
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE PISTON AND WRIST PIN WERE REPLACED. AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK, HE HEARD THE KNOCKING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PISTONS AND LIFT PINS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR IT AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED $2,000 TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE FOR THE CURRENT PROBLEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE, HE ADDED OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO OIL LEAKS IN THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR EVERY 1,000 MILES AND EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS MISSING APPROXIMATELY 1 OR 2 QUARTS OF OIL. EACH TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED AN OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD UNTIL MORE OIL WAS ADDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HAS REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASKET BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,200. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,235.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A LOUD CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE STABILITRAK INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT READ "REDUCE ENGINE POWER". IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER. ALSO, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FIFTEEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. THE FAILURE PERSISTED IN WHICH THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. JS
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 5.3L ENGINE. AT 40,000 MILES, THE CAMSHAFT AND A COUPLE OF LIFTERS WERE REPLACED DUE TO WEAR AND EVENTUAL TAPPING. AGAIN AT 90,000 MILES, THE CAMSHAFT AND A COUPLE OF LIFTERS (LOBE 4) WERE REPLACED DUE TO LIFTER WEAR AND BREAKAGE CAUSING ENGINE TAPPING. ON THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, AFTER THE LIFTERS HAD STARTED TAPPING (AND 900 MILES FROM HOME) A PIECE OF A LIFTER BROKE OFF AND CAUGHT IN THE OIL PUMP CAUSING IT TO STOP. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE. UPON THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE OF LIFTER FAILURE CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT TO WEAR, I FELT SURE THAT CHEVROLET AND GM WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A SHORT BLOCK BUT I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. GM AND THE CHEVROLET DEALER ADMITTED THAT A CAMSHAFT SHOULD LAST AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE BUT I AM ON MY 3RD CAMSHAFT IN THIS ENGINE BEFORE THE...
2007 CHEVORLET SILVERADO 1500 2WD V8 4.8L, ENGINE FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT & INSURANCE COMPANY BOTH DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS FRAUD OR ARSON. TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF MY RESIDENCE ON THE RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 3:50A.M. WE HEARD A BLOW WHICH WAS THE TIRE IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. WE CALLED POLICE PLUS FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE ENGINE FRONT PART OF TRUCK PLUS THE 2 TIRE'S IN FRONT AND ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE HOOD STILL ON, AND THE WINDOWS DID NOT BREAK. THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE GOOD JUST WET AFTER THE FACT. FIRE REPORT SAYS AREA OF FIRE ORIGIN WAS THE ENGINE AREA, RUNNING GEAR, WHEEL AREA. ITEM FIRST IGNITED WAS THE PIPE, DUCT, CONDUIT & HOSE COVERING. IT WAS ABOUT 2:30A.M. SAME DAY WE GOT HOME. IT HAD NOT BEEN 2 HOURS THAT WE DROVE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS PARKED AND THE IGNITION OFF...
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXTENDED CAB WITH 4.8 LITER ENGINE. I LEFT THE TRUCK IDLING FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES. WHEN I CAME OUT TO THE TRUCK, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY INVOLVED IN FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OLD AND HAD ABOUT 6500 MILES ON IT. FIRE MARSHALL WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. TRUCK WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE FIRE DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. AS OF FEBRUARY 11, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 8,000.

THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND A SHORT IN THE CAP AND ROTOR, IN WHICH A HOLE WAS COMPLETELY BURNED THROUGH THE ROTOR.
