NHTSA Complaint #11710737 — 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal whining sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The service shifter warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that when the gear shifter was shifted into park, the vehicle rolled backwards. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with PTU failure. The contact was informed that the PTU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the parts were not yet available. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, parts were not yet available. The contact stated that parts had not been available for almost a year. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
