Consumer Description

In February of 2025, my oil lamp warning light came on. My husband checked the oil dipstick and noticed that it didn't have any oil on it. There was a visible burn mark as well. I called my local Hyundai dealer to schedule an appointment to see why my car was burning oil like that as it was not due for an oil change. The appointment was made for February 20, 2025. My car at that time had 79,803 miles on it. The Hyundai dealer suggested performing an engine combustion cleaning service, per Hyundai, to see if it would "fix" the problem. They also went ahead and did an oil change. After these services were done, I was told to bring the car back in after 1,000 miles. Hyundai's guidelines are that they allow 1 quart of oil loss per every 1,000 miles. I brought the car back to the Hyundai dealer after 1,000 miles and that was in April of 2025. I was told that my vehicle passed the inspection. The oil level on the dipstick was in the "normal range." After a few weeks, my husband checked the oil level again just to make sure the engine wasn't burning any additional oil since we were not convinced that the engine combustion cleaning service solved the problem. He checked it on May 11, 2025. The dipstick showed that it was below the L. I called the Hyundai dealer once again, and they were able to get me in on Tuesday, May 13th. My mileage was 81,792 on the day I brought it back in. They confirmed that it had burned over 2 quarts of oil in less than 2,000 miles. That is more oil consumption than Hyundai "allows" per their 1 quart of oil for every 1,000 miles rule. The dealer put in a request to Hyundai for a new engine replacement and I was denied due to my vehicle having no warranty.
