NHTSA Complaint #11646312 — 2020 GMC TERRAIN

The contact owns a 2020 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds in a parking area and attempting to stop, the brake pedal failed to depress all the way to the floorboard and was firm, requiring an increased effort; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact was able to bring the vehicle to a complete stop by turning the vehicle off. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the brake vacuum pump, observing that the pump had sent metal fragments into the engine, resulting in damages to the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Special Coverage Adjustment: N182202780.
