NHTSA Complaint #11616370 — 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull onto the median. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under warranty because the oil change service records were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
