NHTSA Complaint #11605652 — 2019 FORD EXPEDITION

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the engine was making an abnormally loud revving sound that was louder than normal. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was lagging and hesitated before accelerating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was repaired a second time; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
