NHTSA Complaint #11592681 — 2018 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during cold starts, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that after the vehicle had warmed up the rumbling sound stopped. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the abnormal sound had started occurring while driving the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was more noticeable while slowing for traffic or at a traffic signal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 - Engine Cam Phaser Replacement (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
