NHTSA Complaint #11680905 — 2018 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing rough and delayed starts, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud rattling sound on cold starts. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and downshifted unintendedly while the RPM increased, and the vehicle failed to exceed 50 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the cam phasers and the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair could not be covered because the VIN was not included in Ford Campaign Number: 21N03. The failure mileage was approximately 67,751.
