The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle started shuddering and jerking while shifting gear. The contact stated that there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
