NHTSA Complaint #11514278 — 2017 FORD F-350

On March 17th, 2023, my 2017 Ford F-350 and I experienced a catastrophic failure of the CP4 high-pressure fuel pump. According to a TriStar Ford (Kittanning, Pennsylvania) diesel mechanic, the CP4 pump literally exploded (mechanically blew apart). At the point of failure on the road, the result was diesel fuel EVERYWHERE on Rt. 422 about 15 miles SE of Kittanning, in the pouring rain. The vehicle stopped on the uphill side of a very steep long slope. The entire engine compartment was flooded with diesel fuel, and the roadway had diesel fuel pooled under the truck, and later, down the storm-water management ditch for several hundred feet. Yes, the diesel-fuel contaminated area was greater than 1600 square feet. CP4 pumps fail all of the time, and Ford knows this. So do YOU! These kinds of failures are SAFETY ISSUES (EXTREME fire hazard!!), and you and Ford have known this for YEARS! You need to make Ford recall ALL vehicles with this CP4 pump installed!
