Consumer Description

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle began to downshift independently and stalled. The "Transmission Fault; Service Now" message was displayed. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, shifted to drive and was able to continue driving; however, the failure recurred. The contact was able to drive to the parking area. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The dealer also informed the contact that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
