Consumer Description

WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE UNDER 40 MPH I CAN FEEL A BANGING IN THE STEERING WHEEL TRAVELING UP THE STEERING COLUMN IT FEELS LIKE THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK IS LOOSE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROADS AS WELL AS ROUGHER ROADS, AND IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN THE TEMPS OUTSIDE GO ABOVE 75 DEGREES AND THE LONGER I DRIVE IT THE WORSE IT GETS, IF IT IS A COOLER DAY OUT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN. FORD SERVICE DEPT. WANTS TO CHANGE OUT THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IS GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNITS IN THESE TRUCKS THAT CAUSE THESE SYMPTOMS. I DON'T THINK A BRAND NEW $50,000 TRUCK WITH 1600 MILES ON IT SHOULD BE HAVING ANY PROBLEMS. *TR
