The frame has failed and is well beyond unsafe for the road due to the amount of rust and decay. The vehicle was part of the 'Corrosion Resistance Compound Application to Vehicle Frame' recall. I will bring the vehicle for inspection ASAP, if requested. There is absolutely nothing safe when a vehicle has a faulty structural issue. When I purchased the vehicle there were step rails and spray painted portions of the frame, the parts you could see. Also, when looking up the vehicle, I didn't see any recall issues at that time and thought it was a good sign. After driving it for 6th months, I started feeling a slight resistance feel when accelerating and turning at the same time. I took it to a mechanic and they delivered the news that the frame was deemed unfit for the roads. I found out that the vehicle was brought in...
Frame failure due to rust. Suspension is detached with springs hitting frame. NOTE: fuel tank partially detached previously due to rusted brackets 3-4 years ago and all components were replaced. Filed NHTSA report at that time however had technical issues completing… Still have photos.

Toyota was changing all chassis that had this defect in 2018 to 2020 at no cost, the first owner didn't know about it and I wasn't even warned. Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, the chassis is rusty and has holes in it. I went to complain at Toyota, they said the car didn't have a Recall but neither the first owner nor I had news that I would have to change the car's frame. My 2005 Toyota Tacoma had a recall due to potential frame rusting. I brought my Truck to my local Toyota Dealership for the frame inspection as stated in the recall notice I received. The frame did not need to be replaced and at a later date the frame was sealed per Toyota's remedy. In March of 2022 I had an issue with my truck that required the gas tank to be removed. As it turned out there was major rust to the frame that was located behind the gas tank that was never sealed during the original remedy to the frame rusting issue. I contacted Toyota about the issue and was told that the extended warranty for the Issue had expired. I was told to contact the local dealership. The frame of my truck failed at the motor mount. The motor mount has sunk into the frame shifting the motor and effecting performance and other parts. This can be confirmed by anyone. I never received recall information, I can’t find evidence of one issued for this year or my state.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed punctures and corrosion on the main subframe. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact stated that an unknown recall repair was performed to the subframe in August 2014. The failure mileage was approximately 255,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR SERVICE,THE TEC INFORMED ME IT WOULD NOT PASS NYS IINSPECTION DUE TO RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME.

TRUCK WAS TAKEN IN FOR COOLANT LEAK. TECHNICIAN FOUND THE FRAME TO BE RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS ADVISED TRUCK WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO OPERATE. TRUCK WAS STATIONARY IN DEALERS REPAIR BAY.

HE IS DECEASED NOW AND I OWN THE VEHICLE AND RECURVED NOTIFICATION ABOUT A RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS SO MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRAME WAS TO RUSTED TO SAFELY TAKE SPRINGS OFF TO REPLACE. THE FRAME RECALL HAS EXPIRED BUT THE SPRING RECALL IS STILL IN EFFECT. SO I FEEL THAT TO FIX THE SAFETY ISSUE THEY SHOULD FIX THE FRAME SO THAT THEY CAN FIX THE SPRINGS TO SOLVE THE SAFETY ISSUE. TRUCK FRAME WAS INSPECTED FOR RUST DAMAGE BY TOYOTA IN 2016 AS PART OF A RECALL. TOYOTA FOUND THE FRAME TO BE SOUND AND TREATED IT WITH ANTI-CORROSIVE MATERIAL. JUST FOUR YEARS LATER, THE TRUCK FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH IN SEVERAL SPOTS MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. IT HAS TWO RUST HOLES THAT ARE CONNECTED WITH A CRACK THAT THE RUST IS STARTING TO WIDEN. THE HOLES ARE APPROXIMATELY 1-2 INCHES IN SIZE. I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2013 AT MY HOME OF RECORD (MINNESOTA) IN-BETWEEN DUTY STATIONS. I'M ACTIVE MILITARY AND I'M STATIONED IN NORTH CAROLINA. I DEPLOYED IN 2017 AND DIDN'T GET BACK UNTIL LATE 2018. IN EARLY 2019 STEVENSON HENDRICK TOYOTA CONTACTED ME TO HAVE RECALLS PERFORMED ON MY TRUCK. I BOUGHT A USED 2005 TACOMA IN JULY OF 2019. NO FRAME ISSUES WERE APPARENT AT THE TIME THAT I PURCHASED IT. THE WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE RECALL WORK DONE ON THE LEAF SPRINGS AND SEAT BELTS. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CHECK OUT THE FRAME BECAUSE I HAD BECOME AWARE OF THE FRAME SERVICE CAMPAIGN. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE DEADLINE HAD PASSED IN JANUARY OF 2019 AND THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED MUCH MORE TROUBLESOME FRAME CORROSION AND AM CONCERNED THAT THE TRUCK IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT DURING THAT TIME, THEY COULD HAVE MADE THE REPAIRS; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NO LONGER ASSIST SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. MECHANIC NOTED RUST ON FRAME. CONTACTED TOYOTA, THERE WAS A LAWSUIT ABOUT PREMATURE RUSTING ON FRAMES, BUT SETTLEMENT IS DONE AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY(TOYOTA) CAN DO?
EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS IN NEED OF REPAIR. SHOP WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIX BECAUSE THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO ATTACH NEW PARTS TO. SHOP SHOWED ME LARGE HOLES IN FRAME. THEN ADVISED ME THAT I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITH THE POSSIBILITIES OF BREAKING. WHICH I HAVE HEARD HAPPEN TO OTHERS. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE OR RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE ONLY RECALL THAT I HAVE RECEIVED AND TAKEN CARE OF WAS THE ISSUE WITH THE ACCELERATOR. THIS ALARMS ME SINCE I OFTEN HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME.
WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED FOR RUST AND CORROSION THAT WE SEEN, PALMERS AIRPORT TOYOTA SAID THEY SEEN NONE, THE A-FRAME HAS RUSTED AND CORRODED TO THE POINT OF SNAPPING AND THE METAL IS CORRODED AND PEELING WITH A CRACK GOING AROUND THE WHOLE A-FRAME. THE TRUCK IS NOW NOT MOVEABLE, THE WHOLE TIRE WILL FALL OFF IF WE DO MOVE IT, WE MADE IT BACK TO OUR HOME WITH IT LUCKILY AND TOYOTA CORPORATE SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
THE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA BUMPER IS MOUNTED TO THE HITCH. THE HITCH IS WELDED TO BRACKETS THAT CONNECT TO THE FRAME. THE FRAME HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH PREVIOUS CAMPAIGNS, HOWEVER THERE IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE HITCHES. ANY TACOMA WITH THE BUMPER MOUNTED TO THE HITCH WOULD BE AT RISK OF CREATING A HAZARD FOR OTHER DRIVERS. IF I HAD BEEN TOWING SOMETHING WITH THE HITCH, IT MAY HAVE CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO OVERTURN AND KILL ME OR WHAT I WAS TOWING COULD'VE SEPARATED FROM MY VEHICLE AND CAUSED ANOTHER ACCIDENT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND LOGGED THIS COMPLAINT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER BOTH STATE THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO TO HELP ME OUT. THIS IS A $1700 HITCH/BUMPER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT BILL. TOYOTA FRAME RECALL - I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH HOLES AND CRACKS VISIBLE IN THE FRAME. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE DAMAGE INTERNALLY TO THE FRAME. HUGE CHUNKS OF FRAME RUST COME FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME WHEN PRESSURE WASHED. THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AND RESIDED IN THE NORTHEAST FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLE'S LIFE. THE FRAME IS RUSTING AND HAS PERFORATIONS WHICH COULD LEAD TO FRAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN KEPT IN IMMACULATE CONDITION OVER ITS LIFE. THE LEVEL OF CORROSION ON THIS VEHICLE DID NOT HAPPEN IN TWO YEARS. I PURCHASED MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA USED WITH 108,000 MILES ON IT ON 12/8/2016. IT FAILED VIRGINIA INSPECTION ON 12/20/2016 DUE TO RUST IN THE FRAME. THE TRUCK IS NOT SAFE OR LEGAL TO DRIVE. TOYOTA TRUCK RECALL ON FRAME RUST AND CORROSION. I BROUGHT TRUCK TO PRIME TOYOTA LANCASTER MA THE FRAME WAS COATED WITH AN UNDERCOAT PAINT. THE TACOMA IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO UNUSUAL AMOUNTS OF FRAME RUST AND WHILE UNDERNEATH MINE, CHANGING THE OIL IN THE TRUCK I FOUND HOLES IN THE TRUCK FRAME LARGE ENOUGH TO FIT MY FIST IN. SO FAR I'VE RECEIVED THE RUN AROUND FROM TOYOTA. THEY HAD A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN AND REPLACED MANY TRUCK FRAMES. THAT STOPPED IN MARCH OF 2016. NOW THEY AREN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND LEAVING IT ON THE SHOULDERS OF AMERICANS TO DEAL WITH. MY TRUCK FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED. TOYOTA HAD A VOLUNTARY FRAME EXCHANGE PROGRAM, FOR WHICH I QUALIFIED. I FIRST TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALER (PENN TOYOTA IN GREENVALE, NY) FOR INSPECTION AS PER TOYOTA'S PROGRAM IN OCTOBER 2015. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT A NEW FRAME IS NEEDED AND ADVISED ME THAT IT IS ON ORDER. SINCE OCT 2015, I FOLLOWED UP WITH DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AND IN JANUARY 2016, DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION IN THEIR SYSTEM. SO I BROUGHT MY TRUCK BACK IN AGAIN, AND SERVICE MANAGER JIMMY CONFIRMED THAT I AM ENTITLED TO A NEW FRAME UNDER TOYOTA PROGRAM AND THEY WILL PLACE THE ORDER FOR ME. AGAIN, I CONTINUED TO FOLLOW UP SEVERAL TIMES EACH MONTH AND WAS TOLD THAT FRAME IS ON ORDER. IN MARCH 2016, I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN WITH DEALER BECAUSE THE TOYOTA PROGRAM WAS ABOUT TO EXPIRE. DEALER...
WHILE UNDERNEATH TRUCK INVESTIGATING NOISE FROM VIBRATING METAL I NOTICED THE FRAME BADLY RUSTED NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO THE POINT WHERE A LARGE HOLE FORMED. RUSTED PIECES OF THE FRAME FALL OFF WHEN LIGHTLY TAPPED WITH A HAMMER. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH MADE IT APPARENT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. TRUCK WAS BOUGHT AND ALWAYS REGISTERED IN A SOUTHERN STATE BUT WAS DRIVEN IN ILLINOIS FOR 3 YEARS WHILE ON MILITARY ORDERS. THERE IS SURFACE RUST EVERYWHERE BUT I HAVEN'T DONE A COMPLETE INSPECTION YET TO FIND OTHER HOLES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. AFTER PUMPING TEN GALLONS OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING HOME, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT STRAP HOLDING THE FUEL TANK FRACTURED. MAJOR RUST DAMAGE ON FRAME AFTER ONLY 8 YEARS OF VEHILCE BEING RELEASED, A 2 BY 4 INCH WIDE HOLE ON BOTH SIDES FOR THE TRUCKS FRAME CAUSING WARPING AND BENDING AS WELL AS UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHEN TAKEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPAIRS TOOK 9 MONTHS, AND UPON COMPLETION WAS SEND BACK TO OWNERS POSSESSION WITHOUT TEST DRIVING OR VERIFYING PROJECT COMPLETION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE HOLES IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE LINE FAILURE THAT OCCURRED IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,213. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR FOR FREE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE OWNER OF THE TOYOTA TACOMA RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE INFORMING THE OWNER THAT CERTAIN TOYOTA VEHICLES FROM THE YEAR 2005 -2011 HAS HAD A DEFECT WITH REAR LEAF SPRING . THE OWNER IMMEDIATELY WENT TO TOYOTA OF BOWIE , MARYLAND HE INFORMED THEM THE NOTICE HE RECEIVED IN MARCH . HE HAS CALLED THE MANAGER SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE LAST 4 MONTHS TO GIVE AN UPDATE OF THE PARTS . IT'S BEEN 4 MONTHS THE CAR HASN'T BEEN FIXED.
I AM WRITING TO YOU IN REFERENCE TO MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. AS YOU MAY BE AWARE, TACOMAS HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS IN THE STATES WITH HARSH WINTERS, AND WITH CORROSIONS OF THE FRAME FROM ROAD SALT. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SO EVIDENT THAT TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED TO NOT HAVING ADEQUATE CORROSION RESISTANT PROTECTION. THE FIRST TIME I BECAME AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WAS AT THE END OF JUNE 2016. I CALLED MY TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT TWO OTHER RECALLS AND INQUIRED ABOUT THE FRAME ISSUE AS WELL. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THE FRAME IN FACT HAD A 'LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN' ISSUED BY TOYOTA WHICH EXPIRED MARCH 31, 2016. HE SAID TO BRING IN MY TRUCK FOR THE OTHER TWO RECALLS (ONE WAS FOR THE LEAF SPRING) AND HE WOULD INSPECT THE FRAME (SEE PAGE 2 OF SERVICE INVOICE). AFTER INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE DID NOT THINK THE...

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY TO RECEIVE A RECALL REPAIR.
