Vehicle speed control / sudden unintended acceleration. This was NOT a "misapplication of pedal" by driver! It was clearly a mechanical failure—apparently accelerator pedal (not floor mat, which was secured on its pegs). NO warning lamp, msg, symptom prior to crash. Afterward, saw NHTSA rpts others FIXED speed control issue & same prob STILL recurred! My VIN wasn't listed as unrepaired (likely the original owner repaired recall issue/s)—yet car was still dangerous! At slow speed, approx 1-2 mph, I was entering my garage in usual way, turning R. Car abruptly sped up uncontrollably (self-accelerated); couldn't stop it! Crashed thru garage doorpost & wall, then backyard fence. Lucky I'm alive & no one in yard. VERY traumatic! Physical injury (neck/back) helped by ibuprofen. FWIW air bag didn't deploy. AAA said they'd only tow for repair, not inspection. The car speed variable when I try speed up became slow or sometimes it speed up one time it stops in the middle of rail crossing and completely stop then I moved out and the car pushed up other side and the car accelerated not working properly nod the fuel system also I have big doubt about this car!

MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT ON 01/27/2021, SHE PRESSED ON THE BRAKES BUT THEY DID NOT ENGAGE CAUSING HER TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A NEIGHBORHOOD SIDE STREET
THE BREAK STOPPED WORKING. I HAD ALMOST GOTTEN INTO A CAR ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, I HIT A CLOSE DONATION METAL CONTAINER AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. DANGEROUS CAR TO DRIVE. VEHICLE DRIFTS HARD LEFT WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. PROBLEM IS MADE WORSE WHEN DRIVING NEXT TO A LARGE TRAILER TRUCK WITH CROSSWINDS. CAR STEERING HAS A LARGE LOOSE, DEAD CENTER FEEL DISCONNECTED TO THE ROAD. WHEN TURNING, THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE CENTER. THE DRIVER HAS TO MANUALLY CORRECT THE WHEEL EVERY TIME. I PURCHASED THE CAR "NEW" FROM THE DEALER. I STILL OWN IT TODAY, AND THE STEERING IS JUST AS BAD. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT BOTH REAR ABS SENSORS ARE BAD (CODES C0210 AND C0215). THIS IS A TOYOTA COROLLA 2009 LE WITH ONLY 81K MILES AND I HEAR THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS IN SOME FRIEND'S CARS. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE INSTALLATION, TOYOTA SAID I FIRST HAD TO HAVE AN INSPECTION BECAUSE I HAD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION THOUGH THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME AND SLOWED DOWN WITH THE INTENTION OF STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION. MY BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AT THE NORMAL LEVEL OF PRESSURE THAT I USE, AND I HAD TO PRESS IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. MY WIFE REAR ENDED A TAXI, SHE COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE CAR. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE HOUSE, I FREED THE HOOD AND REMOVED THE BUMPER COVER TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE WATER PUMP GO OUT THE BRAKES THE ALTERNATOR HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKES THE AIR BAG HAS HAD THE STRUTS REPLACED THE GAS LEVER STOPPED WORKING AND NOW THE TRUNK RELEASE WON'T WORK I HAVE REPLACED NOW 5 TIRES BECAUSE ONE BLOW RIGHT AFTER I GOT THE CAR AND NOW MY CAR HAS JUST 85 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. I WAS MERGING ONTO TRAFFIC HEADING WEST ON I-10 IN HOUSTON. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED AND I STARTED APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD WHEN THERE WAS AT LEAST 10 FEET DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER READING OTHER BRAKE COMPLAINTS I'M REALIZING THAT I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT IN JULY OF 2010. AND I HAVE ALL SERVICE DONE AT A TOYOTA DEALER. AT 25,975 MILES, REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES, MACHINED ROTORS, BRAKE FLUID FLUSH, CLEANED AND ADJUSTED REAR BRAKES(1/28/12). (BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT). AT 37,966 MILES , REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AGAIN(12/21/12). PADS LASTED 11,991 MILES! AT 55,662 MILES, REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES, MACHINED ROTORS AGAIN(2/20/2014). PADS LASTED 17,696 MILES! FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON SAME DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THIS WRITER NOTICED THAT WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKE WOULD OCCASIONALLY MAKE A GRINDING SOUND, BUT NOT THE SAME SOUND AS WORN BRAKES OR ROTORS; THE SOUND WAS AS IF IT STRUGGLED TO STOP SLIGHTLY. EVERY DAY FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE IF THERE WAS EVEN A SLIGHT BIT OF PRECIPITATION, WHEN THIS WRITER WOULD PRESS DOWN THE BRAKE, THE BRAKE WOULD GO ON AND OFF VERY QUICKLY AS IF THE ABS WAS KICKING IN UNNECESSARILY. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING WEST BOUND ON I20 BETWEEN EXIT 189 AND 190 ON 11/1 WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED AND HYDROPLANE. MY DAUGHTER WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO USE MY CAR ON THIS DATE, THE CONDITION WAS RAINY AND LOW VISIBILITY. SHE TOOK FEET OFF GAS AND PROCEEDED TO BRAKE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ONE DAY THE ABS KICKED EVERY TIME I WOULD APPLY THE BRAKES. THERE WAS NO SNOW OR RAIN ON THE ROAD. IT FELT AS IF I WASN'T GOING TO STOP, WHICH IS VERY SCARY WITH A 4 MONTH OLD BABY AND 4 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR! I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP RIGHT AWAY. THE SHOP LOOKED AT IT AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOYOTA TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FILED YET ON THIS. HE SAW ANOTHER CAR THIS YEAR WITH EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID THE SENSORS HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED. HE FOUND CORROSION IN THE CONNECTIONS OF BOTH REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. WHICH WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH WHEEL BEARING/SENSOR ASSY'S AND CONNECTORS TO GET THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONING AGAIN. WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM 65 MPH THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES OUT OF CONTROLL. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT PRETTY CONSISTENT NOW MY CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROLL LIGHT STAYS LIT WHILE THE ESC LIGHT BLINKS. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW THREE TIMES OVER PAST 6 MONTHS.
ON JAN. 6TH, WE HIT A DEER ABOUT 10 MILES FROM HOME, AND THROUGH OUR INSURANCE HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS FIXED. REPAIRS WERE MADE AND A FEW MONTHS LATER THE ABS & BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. WE CONTACTED THE INSURANCE AND THEY TOLD US TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE BODY SHOP, WHERE THEY WOULD SEND TO TOYOTA FOR REPAIRS. TOYOTA INFORMED US THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES, THE BODY SHOP ORDERED A USED LKQ ABS ACTUATOR. TWO PARTS WERE ORDERED, THE FIRST ONE BEING INCORRECT, AND WAS INSTALLED AND WE PICKED UP THE CAR. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT TURNED ON TOGETHER. THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WHICH IS DUE TO THE CORROSION OF THE SENSORS ON THE RARE WHEELS. WITH ABS LIGHT TURNED ON, THE VEHICLE IS INCAPABLE OF APPLYING ABS WHEN REQUIRED DURING BRAKE, CREATING A HIGH SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

THE FRONT BRAKES PRODUCE A VERY LOUD RATTLING NOISE, WHENEVER THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND ITS ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS NOT GOING TO STOP AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I AM AFRAID THE BRAKES ARE GOING TO COMPLETELY FAIL ONE DAY AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
