I had to replace the fuel pump module assembly because it was leaking fuel out from above the fuel tank and dripping down near the exhaust. A strong fuel smell alerted me to the issue and upon inspection we found fuel dripping out. This is a safety issue because leaking fuel near the exhaust is a possible problem for ignighting. There was no indication from the car itself that the leak was occurring. We had to figure it out ourselves and get it inspected at a shop and repaired immediately.
THE SMALL PLASTIC PROTRUSIONS USED TO ATTACH FUEL LINES TO THE FUEL PUMP FAILED, 2 OUT OF 3 BROKE, RESULTING IN FUEL SPRAYING ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK.
I PURCHASED MY CAR IN 2016. WHEN I FILL IT UP WITH GAS THERE IS A VERY STRONG GAS ODOR THAT LASTS FOR DAYS. IF YOU WALK ANYWHERE NEAR THE CAR, EVEN IF IT HAS BEEN SITTING YOU SMELL A STRONG GAS ODOR. I PARK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THERE IS A BIG STAIN WHERE GAS HAS LEAKED. I HAVE CHATTED WITH PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR OF CAR AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS YEAR. I WAS TOLD IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD RESULT IN FIRE. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE GAS FILLER TUBE IS CRACKED OR HAS OTHER DAMAGE TO IT. WITH SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION DONE TO FIND THE PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. ALSO, AN ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
HAVE REPLACED BULBS IN HEADLIGHTS AND THE CONNECTORS YET THE HEAD LIGHTS WILL STILL NOT TURN ON HAVE TO USE BRIGHTS AND THEY SOMETIMES DONT WORK. THE FUEL SENSOR ON THE GAS TANK KEEPS CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON AND CAUSING ENGINE TO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD KEEPS COMING ON WHEN ALL BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALONG WITH CALIPERS AND ROTORS.
I NOTICED AFTER I GOT THE CAR THAT THE GAS WAS GOING AWFUL FAST, SO I DECIDED TO LOOK INTO AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A GAS LEAK AND IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP
I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY, AND I WENT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE POWER STEERING DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AND MECHANICS DON'T WANT TO WORK ON IT BECAUSE OF THE AREA IT'S IN. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST 1YR, AND IT'S REALLY ANNOYING AND TIRING.
FUEL PUMP LEAKING GAS
GAS LEAKS FROM CRACKED FITTING ABOVE FUEL TANK. CAR SMELLS VERY BADLY OF GAS.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE REGARDING FUEL PUMP FAILURE, INCLUDING LEAKAGE WHICH PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT FIRE HAZARD. THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE HAS A CURRENT RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT GENERAL MOTORS DENIED THE REPAIR TO MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIN NUMBER. THEY CLAIM THAT THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE ACTUAL VIN NUMBER. HAVING SUFFERED A FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP CAUSING LEAKAGE AND THEREFORE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD, I PAID TO HAVE THE REPAIRS COMPLETED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THIS REPAIR COST ME $881.46. CLEARLY, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO GENERAL MOTORS. THIS SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BY THE MANUFACTURE.
THE CAR IS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE REAR I BELIEVE IT'S A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP CASING, NOT TOO SURE BUT IT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE FUEL PUMP AREA, UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER REAR AREA.
FULL PUMP MALFUNCTION. ENGINE WILL NOT START WHEN TURNING ON IGNITION.
THERE IS A GASOLINE SMELL COMING FROM MY CAR AT ALL TIMES. I DID RESEARCH AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE SAME EXACT CAR. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I BELIEVE IT'S A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK OR HOSE. I'VE NOTICED SINCE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.
TAKATA RECALL MY CAR SMELLS A LOT LIKE GASOLINE. EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON IT STARTS SMELLING LIKE A STRONG ODOR OF GAS.IT SMELLS MORE WHEN I'M DRIVING ON THE STREET.
OWNER OF A 2006 PONTIAC G6. STRONG SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM THE CAR. IT TAKES A 2ND ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR AS WELL. I'VE SEEN THERE ARE MANY OTHERS OVER THE YEARS WITH THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE BUT NO RECALL EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON OTHER YEARS FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT NOT THE 2006. SINCE WE'RE LONG PAST ANY WARRANTY, I HAD HOPES OF A RECALL BUT SINCE THERE ISN'T, I'M LOOKING AT OVER $1000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO FIX THE FUEL PUMP LINE NOW RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR AND IT'S SCARY TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED.
JUST RECENTLY I HAD MY PONTIAC, 2006, G-6 REPAIRED AT THE CHEVY DEALER. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY FUEL LEAK UNTIL THE WERE GOING TO DROP THE FUEL TANK. THERE THEY FOUND THE FUEL LEAK. THEY REMOVED THE FUEL PUMP AND REPLACED A NEW FUEL PUMP. I HAD CALLED GM PONTIAC TO CHECK ON THE PONTIAC, 2006 G-6 RECALL. THEY SAID THERE ARE NO PONTIAC G-6 RECALLS. I TOLD THEM THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2006 PONTIAC STATING THAT THE FUEL PUMP LEAKS. ACCORDING TO AIRTEC THEY DID A RECALL ON THEIR FUEL PUMPS MODEL NO. E3591M. THIS PUMP LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE PUMP THEY TOOK OUT. THEY STATED THE FUEL PUMP SEAL WILL LEAK GAS.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD "KICK" BEFORE ACCELERATING FORWARD AND STALL WHEN INITIALLY ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD SUCCESSFULLY START. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING INTO THE EXHAUST DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND FRACTURE ON THE SEAL TO THE FUEL TANK. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAL AND/OR THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.

AT APPROX 70,000 MILES NOTICE FUEL ODOR AROUND GAS TANK. AT APPROX 70,300 MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK UNTIL SECOND ATTEMPT AND THE FUEL SMELL IS MUCH MORE PRONOUNCED. WHEN VEHICLE SITS FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR, IT TAKES AT LEAST TWO ATTEMPTS TO START.
I HAVE BEEN SMELLING GAS FOR SOME TIME NOW. MAINLY WHEN I PARK THE CAR. THE SMELL LINGERS FOR A GREAT WHILE. NOW LOOKING AT THE NHTSA WEBSITE, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FILED ABOUT 50 TIMES AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I PERSONALLY CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A DEALER SINCE THEY CHARGE AN ARM AND A LEG. PLUS I HAVE LOOKED UP SOME OF THE PARTS INVOLVED AND IT IS JUST OUT OF MY BUDGET. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AS THIS ISSUE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. NEWER PONTIAC G6 MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. THE 2006 SHOULD BE REPAIRED THROUGH A RECALL. IT IS OBVIOUS THE COMPANY IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THE FUEL TANKS.
I HAVE A 06 G6 2.4L 4CYL AND LATELY IT HAS BEEN GIVING OFF A STRONG FUEL SMELL. I SMELL IT WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AS WELL AS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AND PARKING, BOTH CAR INTERIOR AND TRUNK SMELLED STRONGLY OF GAS. CHECKED PAVEMENT UNDER CAR FOR LEAKING GAS, BUT DID NOT SEE ANY. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN ON SUBSEQUENT DRIVES WITH THE SMELL DETECTED WHILE DRIVING. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE GAS SMELL IS SO STRONG AND I AM AFRAID OF A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OTHER PONTIAC G6 OWNERS WHO HAVE IDENTIFIED SIMILAR PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN TRACED TO A HARD PLASTIC FUEL LINE THAT COMES OUT OF THE FUEL PUMP AT THE GAS TANK. THE CAR IS NOW PARKED UNTIL I CAN AFFORD TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED...TOO RISKY TO DRIVE. ALL OF THIS COMBINED WITH THE CAR'S HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ISSUES ARE JUST WAY TOO MUCH. I CANNOT RELY ON THE CAR FOR TRANSPORTATION AT ALL, AND...
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND WAS STOPPED BY A POLICE OFFICER BECAUSE FLUID WAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IT TURNS OUT THAT A FITTING ON THE GAS TANK BROKE AND FUEL WAS BEING PUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE. THIS IS A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION AND DEFECTIVE PLASTIC FITTINGS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON VEHICLES.

I'VE NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR. I WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME WHERE GAS IS LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ACTUAL TANK. THE GAS IS RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE TANK CAUSING IT TO DRIP FROM THE FUEL TANK COVER. JUNE OF 2008, THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACE AND SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. AFTER GETTING IT FIXED IT HASN'T COME BACK ON UNTIL ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AND IT IS NOW NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD IF I DON'T GET IT FIXED THEN WHEN IT COMES BACK ON THEN THE AIRBAGS WON'T DEPLOY. FEBRUARY OF 2011, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR OF MY O2 SENSORS AND THEN THE BRAIN IN ORDER FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL FUMES EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE PONTIAC G6 2006 FUEL PUMP IS FAULTY AND THERE'S ALOT OF COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PART. THE STRANGE THING ABOUT THIS ISSUE IS GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT FOR SOME VERY STRANGE REASON RECALL THE VEHICLES FROM 2007-2010 AND LEFT OFF THE 2006 MODEL WHICH SEEM TO SUFFER MOST FROM THIS FUEL PUMP DEFECT FROM THE PLASTIC MADE PART ON THEIR PUMP. THE DEALERSHIP AFTER CHARGING ME $134 JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHICH THEY KNEW FROM BEFORE WANTED AN ADDITIONAL $1200 TO REPLACE THEIR OWN DEFECTIVE PUMP WHICH THEY RECALLED ON THE 2007 MODEL AND MANY OTHER VEHICLE....ITS A MAJOR RIP OFF AND A [XXX] SHAME ! THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13E043000 (EQUIPMENT, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,766.
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND PUT ON LIFT. TECHNICIAN SAID, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL(GASOLINE) COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TECH SHOWED ME THE LOCATION OF A WET SPOT AND WE BOTH TOUCHED THE AREA AND OUR FINGERS SMELLED LIKE FUEL. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $850.27 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. MY CHOICES ARE CLEAR, GET THE THING FIXED, OR BURN IN AN EXPLOSION. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT MANY OTHER MOTORIST WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
HAIRLINE CRACK DISCOVERED IN FUEL PUMP UNIT, CAUSING FUEL LEAK ONTO EXHAUST PIPE, RESULTING IN FIRE RISK, ESPECIALLY IN ENCLOSED AREAS.
