As such, the chassis fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Consequence: Without the transmission shifter being illuminated, the driver may not be able to easily identify what gear the vehicle is in, which could result in cause unintentional vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
