TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS CONTAMINATION BY THE ENGINE COOLANT. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
NISSAN HAS ADMITTED TO FAULTY RADIATORS IN THEIR 05-10 MIDSIZE VEHICLES. MINE BEING A FRONTIER BUT ALSO USED IN XTERRA, PATHFINDERS AND I BELIEVE TITANS.THESE RADIATORS WHEN THEY GO, TAKE THE TRANSMISSION WITH THEM. 4700 DOLLAR BILL LATER NISSAN SAYS I'M 2 MONTHS BEYOND MY 10 YEARS AND WILL NOT HONOR ANY HELP, EVEN THOUGH I'M 10K UNDER THE 100K MILE LIMIT. SO BECAUSE I KEPT MY MILES LOW AND HAVE TAKEN CARE OF MY PICKUP I AM STILL AT FAULT FOR THEIR FAULTY EQUIPMENT. MY FAMILY WILL ***NEVER*** OWN ANOTHER NISSAN AS LONG AS WE LIVE. MY 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER HAS CROSS CONTAMINATION BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN NEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YEARS AGO. TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY OUT TO 10 YEARS. DUE TO A DEFECT KNOWN BY NISSAN, THE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NISSAN KNEW ABOUT THE DEFECT AND DID NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. INSTEAD THEY ADDED AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" THAT MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DUE TO YEARS/MILEAGE LIMITATIONS. I MADE IT INTO THE LAST BRACKET, WHERE MY CO-PAY FOR THE REPAIR IS $3000 INSTEAD OF THE FULL $5800. THE DEALER DID NOT RESEARCH THE WARRANTY AND TRIED TO HAVE ME PAY FULL PRICE. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN FRONTIER. AT ABOUT 84365 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING BADLY. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT MY TRANSMISSION COOLER HAD RUPTURED INSIDE THE RADIATOR AND COOLANT HAD GOTTEN INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. MY TRANSMISSION WAS BASICALLY DESTROYED AND IT COST OVER $5000.00 TO FIX IT. AFTER READING OTHER ARTICLES ABOUT NISSAN OWNERS WITH SIMILAR EXPERIENCES, I THINK THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE FAILURES. *TR
VEHICLE MADE A NOISE WHAT SOUNDED LIKE DRIVING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP. IT THEN FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND I WAS FORCED INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO SHOP AND WAS INFORMED OF THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND NOW ITS JUNK. WHILE GETTING ON THE FREEWAY, I ACCELERATED TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC BUT WAS UNABLE TO GAIN SPEED SO I GOT OFF ON THE FIRST EXIT RAMP. HAD PLENTY OF ENGINE POWER BUT LOST TORQUE. FIRST THOUGHT, MUST BE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. GOT HOME AND CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS FINE, THE OIL DID NOT LOOK LIKE TRANSMISSION OIL, IT WAS DISCOLORED AND HAD A DIFFERENT FEEL TO IT. WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. DID MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. EXTENSION FOR THE WARRANTY TO 80,000 WAS PUT IN PLACE FOR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THIS ITEM BACK IN 2010. IN 2010 MY VEHICLE DID NOT EVEN HAVE 50,000 SO NONE OF THIS APPLIED TO ME! AFTER BUYING THE TRUCK FROM A DEALERSHIP, I WAS DRIVING HOME. I GOT ABOUT 5 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO WHO CONFIRMED WHAT I WAS AFRAID OF. THERE WAS COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. WE SUBMITTED IT TO THE WARRANTY COMPANY THAT I HAD PURCHASED A WARRANTY FROM WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT SINCE THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN UNCOVERED PART(OIL COOLER) THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM AND SEEING AS MANY CLAIMS OF THIS ISSUE HOW HAS NISSAN NOT RECALLED THE TRANSMISSION? AT THE TIME OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE I HAD NO PRIOR SIGNS OF A PROBLEM. AS I WAS MERGING ON TO THE 4 LANE AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 45-50 MPH THE TRUCK BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I THOUGHT I HAD GOTTEN SOME BAD FUEL BECAUSE I HAD JUST FILLED THE FUEL. THE SHAKING SOMEWHAT SMOOTHED OUT AT ABOUT 60 MPH, THOUGH THE TRUCK WAS LACKING NORMAL POWER, AND WOULD SHUDDER WHEN PULLING A GRADE. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, THE SES LIGHT AND SLIP LIGHT CAME ON. THIS VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY A RECALL FOR THE ECM THAT CAUSED A SIMILAR ISSUE. THE ECM WAS REPLACED BY A CERTIFIED NISSAN SERVICE CENTER. THE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE 12/29/10. NOW, IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. A BIT OF RESEARCH SHOWS THAT NISSAN HAS ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR CAMSHAFT SENSORS THAT CAUSE A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM. HOWEVER, BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER THAT RECALL, I CAN'T HAVE NISSAN REPLACE THEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER THEN STALLS WHILE TRAVELING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT 50-60 MPH. THAT CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND AFFECT NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT OTHERS. THE TRUCK LURCHED AHEAD WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, JUST MISSING A PEDESTRIAN. TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TODAY. WAS TOLD THAT COOLANT FROM A CRACKED RADIATOR HAD RUINED THE TRANSMISSION AND REPAIR WOULD BE $5700.00. CAR WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION AND ALWAYS DEALER MAINTAINED. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING AS FAR AS WARRANTY. THEY GAVE ME NISSAN NORTH AMERICA'S NUMBER. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. THIS IS A DEFECT. NOT A WORN OUT PART. I WAS DRIVEN @ 45 MPH I FELL THE ROUGHNESS OF THE TRUCK, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION GOT MIXED UP W/ THE COOLANT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. ANYWAY I PURCHASED OUTSIDE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY TRUCK LAST YEAR AND I CANNOT USED IT BECAUSE THEIR POLICY THAT IT DOESN'T COVER COOLING SYSTEM. I CALL NORTH NISSAN THEY SAID THEY GIVE US EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ME IS NOT THE WARRANTY IT IS MANUFACTURE DEFECT PLS. HELP ME THAT NISSAN WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
THREE DAYS AFTER RECEIVING THE LETTER FROM NISSAN REGARDING THE "POSSIBLE" PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR FAILING I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND MY TRUCK STARTED TO SHUDDER AT ABOUT 45MPH. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD BUT COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG. I THEN HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RADIATOR FAILING AND DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN A TOTAL REBUILD! CALLED NISSAN AND AFTER 3 WEEKS OF BACK AND FORTH TALKS OF "SEEING WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU" THE END RESULT WAS SORRY THEIRS NOTHING WE CAN DO FOR YOU! IF THIS PROBLEM WOULD OF HAPPEN ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY ALONG I HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED! *TR
MY SLIP STARTED TO GO ON AND IT WOULD DOWN SHIFT AND SOMETIMES STALL. I NEEDED BRAKES SO I WENT TO TONY NISSAN TO HAVE MY BRAKES DONE AND THE SLIP CHECKED OUT AND THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THAT A TRANSMISSION LINE INSIDE MY RADIATOR CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING INTO MY TRANSMISSION AND I NEEDED TO REPLACED BOTH ( $9000.00 DOLLARS THAT I DON'T HAVE.) NISSAN HAS EXTENDED IT'S WARRANT TO 10 YEARS AND 100000 MILES, BUT MY TRUCK HAS OVER 147000 MILES. THIS IS NOT MY FAULT AS IT IS DUE TO A FAULTY RADIATOR THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, WHEN MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM TOWN WHEN MY TRUCK DIED. IT TOOK ME A FEW MINUTES TO GET IT TO START. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED THURSDAY. ON MY WAY HOME, I RAN BY THE LOCAL AUTOZONE, TO HAVE MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED OUT. IT SHOWED UP THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS OUT. WHILE LOOKING THROUGH THE WEB, I SEE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TOOK MY FRONTIER TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION FLUSH. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS SERVICE COULD NOT BE COMPLETED DUE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO MY TRANSMISSION. THROUGH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND MANY OWNERS OF FRONTIERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND HAVE SHARE THIS ISSUE WITH NISSAN. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS AND NO SUPPORT TO OWNERS LIKE MYSELF WITH TRUCKS OVER A 100,000 MILES. IT APPEARS NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THEIR SUVS FOR SOME TIME. THIS DEFECT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND VERY COSTLY FOR OWNERS TO CORRECT. THE RADIATOR DEVELOPED A CRACK AND CAUSE FLUID TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION LINES CAUSING A FAILURE TO BOTH PIECES OF EQUIPMENT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF NISSAN WOULD HAVE WARNED ME ABOUT ISSUES CONCERNING THIS FAILURE THAT IS OCCURRING IN LOTS OF SIMILAR MODELS. *TR

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN STUMBLING AND THEN I LOST 5TH GEAR. TOOK TO DURABUILD TRANSMISSION SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT ENGINE COOLANT HAD GOTTEN INTO THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE RADIATOR TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE CLEANED & REPAIRED. THE VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE SOLENOID. REPAIR BILL CAME TO $4100.00. *TR
TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR AIR-CONDITIONING SERVICE. NISSAN DEALER FOUND TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY COOLANT. THEY STATED I NEEDED A NEW RADIATOR DUE TO TRANSMISSION COOLER IN RADIATOR FAILURE. THEY CHANGED OUT THE RADIATOR, THE COST WAS OVER 1200.00. ONCE RADIATOR WAS FIXED THEY STATED THEY FOUND A SMALL AMOUNT OF COOLANT IN MY TRANSMISSION. THEY FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION TWICE (ADDITIONAL 250.00) BUT COULD NOT TELL ME IF THERE WAS ANY DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THEY ALSO STATED THEY HAVE NEVER HAD THIS FAILURE AT THIS DEALERSHIP IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA BEFORE THE NEW NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRES (90000 MILES OR 9 YEARS). NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR A LONG TIME..... *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE NISSAN FRONTIER ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN THE RPM SHOT UP THEN DROPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION QUIT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I HAD TO CROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION LEAKING FLUID INTO THE RADIATOR CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL WITH OUT ANY WARNING. I WAS TOLD THE FIX WOULD COST ME AROUND 5,500.00 DOLLARS. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REALLY SHOULD CORRECT IT BEFORE SOME ONE IS KILLED BY THIS OBVIOUS MAJOR MALFUNCTION IN THE DESIGN OF THERE PRODUCT. *TR

TOOK INTO NISSAN SERVICE CENTER WHO TOLD US THAT COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION FROM A FAULTY RADIATOR AND IT WOULD COST $5500 TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AS WE WERE OUT OF WARRANTY. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILING SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. ALSO NOTICED CABIN HEATER DOES NOT WORK WHEN AT A STOP. SIGNS INDICATIVE OF RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION SEAL FAILURE AND RADIATOR COOLANT IN TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MY 2005 FRONTIER BEGAN SHUDDERING AND THEN LOST POWER WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION. AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS CONTAMINATED. IT APPEARS NISSAN HAS BEEN LONG AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, WITH THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ACROSS THE BOARD FROM THE 2005 - 2010 FRONTIERS, PATHFINDERS AND XTERRAS NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A CATASTROPHIC DEFECT IN DESIGN KNOWN TO NISSAN AND SHOULD BE MADE RIGHT BY NISSAN TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF THE CUSTOMER. *TR
TRANSMISSION ATF IS CONTAMINATED WITH COOLANT CAUSE TRANSMISSION TO DETERIORATE. TRANSMISSION RATTLES AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MILES PER HOUR WHEN SHIFTING INTO AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE. BECOMING NOTICEABLY MORE JERKY OVER TIME IN LOWER GEARS. HEAT DOES NOT WORK WHILE ENGINE IS IDLING AND TAKES A LONG TIME TO WARM UP WHILE MOVING. COLD AIR BLOWING ACROSS WINDSHIELD ON COLD DAYS HAS CAUSED WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP FROM THE INSIDE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS UNDER 113000 MILES AND NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAS GIVEN ME AN ESTIMATE OF $5119.42 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR ASSEMBLY. *TR
