I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND GAVE ME A CODE OF P1778, HE TOLD ME NISSAN TRANSMISSIONS HAVE A SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH THEIR STEP MOTORS AND THAT NISSAN IS SUPPOSED TO FIX THEM FOR FREE. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX IT WHEN THEY KNOW THEIR TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOT GOOD BECAUSE THEY'RE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN IT STARTED LOSING SPEED THAT IS WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC, HAPPEN O THE HIGHWAY.
WHILE DRIVING, OR WANTING TO DRIVE AFTER COMING TO A STOP, THE ENGINE RPMS WILL INCREASE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED (UP TO RED LINE), BUT THE CAR TRANSMISSION DOES NOT RESPOND UNTIL, SUDDENLY, THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD. THIS CAN HAPPEN FROM A COLD START, AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, AFTER A QUICK STOP AT A BUSINESS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STILL WARM, ETC.
WHILE DRIVING, EITHER WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OR WITHOUT, THE ENGINE RPMS WILL QUICKLY BOUNCE BETWEEN HIGH RPMS AND LOW RPMS THOUGH THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT CHANGE AT ALL. THE ENGINE IS REVVING FASTER, BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ENGAGED. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY.
CVT TRANSMISSION WAS BUILT POORLY, THE TRANSMISSION IS SLOWLY DESTROYING ITSELF CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER, HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. THE DATE I SELECTED FOR WHEN IT HAPPENED IS THE DATE I NOTICED THE ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE.
NO FORVER GEAR OR REVERSE GEAR AT ALL .AND HAVE ALOT OF CODE 720 1723 1778 0868 0715 1722 0746 0826 1701
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR MORE THAN 1.5 HOURS THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AND SLOWS DOWN TO 45MPH OR LESS OR NOW POWER AT ALL. BECAUSE THE CVT OVERHEATS AND SHUTS DOWN. A NISSAN DEALERSHIP INSPECTED IT AND SAID WE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
THE TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT AT 115,000 MILES, JUST BELOW OF THE CUTOFF FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF THE 2010 ALTIMAS. THE SAME TRANSMISSION RESIDES IN BOTH OF THESE CARS, WHY IS ONE COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE OTHER NOT?
MY SON'S 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS 99,500 MILES. THE CVT HAS BEEN ACTING UP MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR. IT HAS GONE INTO THE FAIL-SAFE MODE AT LEAST FOUR TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY, CREATING AN UNSAFE AND HAZARDOUS CONDITION. WE'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TWICE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD NOT EMITTED FAULTS. THIS IS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THERE'S OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE THAT IS CAUSING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR A LONG DISTANCE (30 MILES) THERE IS A WHINING SOUND THAT STARTS AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. IF THE CAR IS ALLOWED TO SIT AND COOL DOWN THE WHINING WILL STOP BUT START BACK AS THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION HEATS UP. DURING THIS PERIOD THE CAR WILL LOOSE POWER AND NOT EXCEED 40 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING THROUGHOUT THE CITY AND ON THE HIGHWAY
CVT TRANSMISSION CAUSING EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS. IT SLIPS AND LURCHES CONSTANTLY. IT SHAKES WHEN ACCELERATING UNTIL 20 MPH, AND STARTS AGAIN AT 20-30 MPH. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING ON ANY ROADS BUT IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN DECELERATING WHEN EXITING THE HIGHWAY.
THE MPH WOULD REGISTER AS 60 BUT I KNOW IT WAS ONLY DOING 20. GOING AROUND CURVES IT WAS ACTING LIKE IT WANT TO GO BUT DONT GO FAR. IT WILL START BUT MPH WONT MOVE, AND WONT MOVE FORWARD BUT WILL BACKUP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE SPEED REDUCED TO 50 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EAST TENNESSEE NISSAN (5496 W ANDREW JOHNSON HWY, MORRISTOWN, TN 37814, 423-799-3561) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 132,000.

NHTSA TEAM, I AM FILING THIS SAFETY COMPLAINT REGARDING MY DAUGHTERS 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA. HER VEHICLE HAS 94,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE CVT IS ACTING UP. THIS YEAR, THE VEHICLE'S CVT HAS GONE INTO THE FAIL-SAFE MODE AT LEAST THREE (3) TIMES WHILE ON INTERSTATE TRIPS. EACH TIME IT WAS DURING HOT WEATHER (SHE LIVES IN SOUTH CAROLINA) AND CAUSED HER TO RUN VERY SLOWLY ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS CREATED AN UNSAFE AND HAZARDOUS CONDITION. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY TRANSMISSION MISFIRED- MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WENT FLAT AT 60MPH. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 60MPH FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP AND THE CAR VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY QUITE A BIT.
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER CLIMBING A STEEP GRADE UPHILL, ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT SANDWICHED BETWEEN TWO 18 WHEELERS ALSO GOING UPHILL ONE OF WHICH HAD TO SWERVE SHARPLY TO AVOID HITTING US. CVT TRANSMISSION LIKELY WENT INTO FAIL-SAFE MODE, SAME THING REPEATED MULTIPLE TIMES ON STEEP WINDING CLIMBS ON MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYS. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH ENGINE CUTTING OUT AND LOSS OF POWER. NISSAN HAS ISSUED CVT RECALLS AND EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MODELS UP TO 2010 BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE IN THIS 2012 ALTIMA AND IN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CVT ON LATER MODELS. NHTSA SHOULD GET NISSAN TO EXTEND ITS RECALL/WARRANTY TO MODELS AFTER 2010 JUDGING BY THE MANY COMPLAINTS BEING REPORTED ABOUT THE SAME LOSS OF POWER ISSUE WITH THE CVT.
INITIALLY EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER AROUND 30,000 MILES WHILE GOING 80 MPH ON INTERSTATE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE ONLY OPTION IS TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TOOK IT TO DEALER BUT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE OR FIND ANYTHING WRONG. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RANDOMLY LOSE POWER WHILE AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED, AS WELL AS A LOUD WHINING AND HUMMING SOUND. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 8 DIFFERENT TIMES AND STILL COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. WAS TOLD IF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THAT WOULD HELP LOCATE ISSUE. CHECK ENGINE CAME ON DURING LOSS OF POWER ISSUE, AND DEALERSHIP STILL TOLD ME COULDN'T PINPOINT PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT LOSS OF POWER IN JUNE 2018, I WAS NEARLY STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A SEMI TRUCK TRAVELLING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING FOR THE LOSS OF POWER AND THERE WAS NO WHERE TO PULL OFF...
I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE ENGINE OIL COOLER CHANGE TWICE WITHIN 14 MONTHS OF OTHER. AND THE ENGINE OIL SENSOR.

AFTER 70K MILE ITS STARTED MAKING TOO MUCH NOISE AND AT 80K MILES ITS LOSING POWER EVEN IF I RUN THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY.THE RPM WILL STATY AT 2500 AT THIS POINT.WHEN I RESEARCHED FOUND OUT THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAS DESIGN FALW AND MOST OF THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAS THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION.I CANT BELIEVE THAT NISSAN CARS LASTS FOR ONLY 70K MILES. EVERY TIME SOMEONE WALKS INTO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SEEM TO BE WELL AWARE BUT NO RECALL HE BEEN DONE.
O HILLS AND ON WARM DAYS THE CAR LOSSES POWER AND WONT GO OVER 60 MPH THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST CUASED A WRECK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CODE SAID IT WAS LOW ON FLUID. IT WAS CHECKED AND WAS GOOD.
WHEN DRIVING IN WARM WEATHER FOR 1.5 HOURS OR MORE CVT TRANSMISSION LOSES POWER AND MAKES A WHINING NOISE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE REGARDING THESE TRANSMISSIONS AND NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON VEHICLES UP TO 2010 BECAUSE OF IT. TRANSMISSION SAYS IT IS OVERHEATING AND PUTS ITSELF INTO "SAFE MODE" THEREBY LOSING ALL POWER AND ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ON HILLS, ETC. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION.

MY GEAR SHIFT MOVES SOMETIMES AND OTHER TIMES, JUST NO ACCELERATION THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW OVER 10 TIMES IN 2 DAYS!!!!!! BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS NOT SHOWING ON DIAGNOSTIC, THEY WILL NOT LOOK AT THE CARS TRANSMISSION, TRANS FLUID, OR THE GEAR SHIFT. THEY WOULDN'T DO A THING TO MY CAR! MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. JUST UNDER 7 YEARS OLD AND MY TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING AND RPM 'S WERE HIGH WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.

I HAD TO PULL INTO THE MEDIAN TO AVOID BEING HIT BY AN 18 WHEELER. I HAD MY SISTER AND TWO OF OUR LITTLE KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY TIME IT HAS DONE THIS IT HAS DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES NOW AND THE MECHANICS CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I HAVE READ SEVERAL PLACES WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE.... I BELIEVE THEIR IS A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT WITH EITHER THE ACCELERATION OR TRANSMISSION.... IT JUST REVS UP SOUNDS LIKE IT'S DOING SOMETHING BUT NOT INCREASING SPEED. DRIVING ON FAST LANE ON HIGHWAY ABOUT 70 MILES THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT REDUCES ALL BY ITSELF TO 35-40 MPH AND I ALMOST GOT INTO IN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I DID TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON BUT HAD TO GET OFF THE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY.

SINCE WHEN MY CAR HAD 31,000 MILES IT'S BEEN WINGING AND LOSING POWER RAPIDLY, NO ACCELERATION, IT'S A CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUE. IT'S A REALLY DANGEROUS CAR. IT'S BEEN HAPPENING SO MANY TIMES . THE 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 3.5 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN SUDDEN LOSS OF CLUTCH PRESSURE OCCURRED. THIS RESULTED IN THE INABILITY TO CHANGE GEARS AND THEREFORE EFFECTIVELY CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE OUTSIDE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SPEED SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE GIVEN GEAR. THIS WAS THE RESULT OF A FAULTY CONCENTRIC CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER.
MY 2012 ALTIMA 2.5S HAS SHUT DOWN TRANSMISSION WISE(CVT) AND IT WILL NOT SPEED UP EVEN WHEN GAS PEDAL IS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! TODAY IT DID THIS FOR A TOTAL OF 120 MILES...THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU CANT GET YOUR CAR OUT OF THE WAY OF EVEN GET TO THE SHOULDER BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN THE GAS IS PUSHED DOWN...I BARELY MADE IT HOME TODAY WITH OF COURSE A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR AND MY CAR WOULDNT RESPOND...I GOOGLED "2012 ALTIMA WILL NOT SPEED UP GOING UPHILL" WHAT I FOUND ARE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND NISSAN DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT...WHATS IT GOING TO TAKE? SOMEONE GETTING KILLED WHICH IS WHAT IT USUALLY TAKES TO GET SOMETHING POSITIVE DONE? NISSAN NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THIS IMMEDIATELY..
WHEN TRAVELING ON FREEWAY AT 70-100 MPH CAR WILL LOOSE ACCELERATION AND SLOWLY SLOW DOWN TO 40 MPH NO MATTER HOW FAR THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. WILL NOT REGAIN POWER UNTIL THE CAR IS PULLED OVER SHUT OFF AND WITHIN 5-10 MINUTES RESTARTED AND WILL REPEAT AGAIN WITHIN 15 -20 MINUTES OF REACHING 70 MPH.
SUSTAINED DRIVING MORE THAN AN HOUR THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS AND FORCES SENSOR TO "FAIL SAFE MODE" CAUSING VEHICLE TO DRIVE ONLY AT LOW SPEED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON THE OPEN ROAD DUE TO DRIVING WAY UNDER POSTED SPEED OR HAVING TO STOP N ROAD SIDE.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 75MPH, MY CAR JUST STOPPED GOING. I DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY. I WAS PRESSING GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND CAR WOULD NOT INCREASE SPEED. IT JUST WOULD NOT GO. THE RPMS WENT OVER 3,000. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ANY WARNING IN THE DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. THERE WERE A LOT OF VEHICLES ON ROAD AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME AND A TRUCK HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING BEHIND ME. THE TRUCK AND OTHER VEHICLES WERE ALL SWERVING ON EITHER SIDE OF ME TO GET OUT OF MY LANE AND AS A RESULT, I COULD NOT GET MY VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROAD UNTIL THEY ALL PASSED. AS I KEPT COASTING ALONG WAITING FOR OPPORTUNITY TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, I KEPT PRESSING GAS PEDAL. EVENTUALLY THAT WORKED AND I BEGAN TO PICK...
AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE FOR 1 HOUR OR MORE, VEHICLE GOES INTO FAIL-SAFE MODE, MEANING THE RPMS WILL NOT GO OVER 2500. SO, IF ONE IS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 MPH, THEN ARRIVES AT A HILL, THEN THE VEHICLE SPEED COULD DECREASE TO 40 MPH. ACCORDING TO MECHANIC, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND NISSAN HAS A SERVICE KIT FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. I AM NOT SURE WHY IT IS NOT A RECALL...
TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. CAR STOPPED MOVING.
AFTER I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR FOR 45 MIN ON THE FREEWAY GOING AROUND 70-85 MPH THE CAR LOSES POWER AND ALMOST FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL. ONCE I WAS OFF THE FREEWAY AT THE INTERSECTION WHEN I ACCELERATED MY CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS ALMOST BEING REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. THEY SAY ITS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND GOING INTO SAFE MODE IN HOT TEMPERATURES. MY VEHICLE WAS DOING THIS WHEN IT WAS 65 DEGREES OUTSIDE. I THINK SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND WITH THE SAFETY BEING A CONCERN NISSAN SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
1ST INCIDENT: DRIVING ON HWY 5 IN CA ON A HOT DAY AT FREEWAY SPEED CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND DROPPED BELOW 30 MPH. PULLED OFF OF HWY AND SHUT VEHICLE OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND NO LONGER EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. 2ND INCIDENT: DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 80 IN CA IN 95-100 DEGREE WEATHER. GOT OFF FREEWAY AND CAR LOST POWER AGAIN THIS TIME NOT GOING OVER 5 MPH. TOOK VEHICLE TO NISSAN DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING BUT "MILEAGE IN" WAS THE SAME AS "MILEAGE OUT" WHICH TELLS ME THEY DIDN'T DRIVE VERY FAR IF AT ALL. THEY PUT IT ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND GOT A CODE SAYING "CVT A AT 4" AND "CVT B AT 7" CVT HAS BEEN OVERHEATED. RECOMMEND REPLACE VALVE BODY AND INSTALL EXTERNAL COOLER FOR CONCERN. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME ISSUE WITH NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSION.
