I PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA SE V6 ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND THE POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT. MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT BECAME SO HARD TO TURN, THAT HE ENDED UP DRIVING ONTO A SIDEWALK. LUCKILY HE WAS FINE AND NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR WAS DONE. WE'VE ALSO HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING. HIS DRIVER SEAT DOES NOT MOVE AND WINDOWS WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO.
WHILE WALKING TO THE VEHICLE AN OBJECT WAS SEEN HANGING DOWN FROM BEHIND THE LEFT DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL AREA. AFTER CRAWLING UNDER THE VEHICLE TO INVESTIGATE I POSITIVELY CONFIRMED THE REAR SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN OFF RIGHT AT THE BUSHING. THE DRIVER SIDE END OF THIS BAR IS STILL ATTACHED AT THE LINKAGE RODS, BUT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF FROM THE REST OF THE SWAY BAR AT THE LEFT SIDE BUSHING AND BRACKET. PLEASE FORCE NISSAN TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND AT LEAST ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN IF THEY ARE TOO STUBBORN TO ISSUE A RECALL. MAKE THEM AGREE IN WRITING TO DUMP THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS INFERIOR HOLLOW PART. JUDGING BY THE NUMEROUS BROKEN 2007 ALTIMA SWAY BAR COMPLAINTS, THERE IS AN APPARENT QUALITY PROBLEM HERE. *TR
FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE REAR STABILIZER BAR SNAPPED ON MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE BAR ITSELF IS HOLLOW WHICH SURPRISED ME. BELIEVE THIS IS A FAULTY NISSAN PART SINCE MY DRIVING IS NOT AGGRESSIVE IN ANY WAY AND I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING OR RUN THROUGH A POT HOLE OR CURB THAT MIGHT CAUSE THIS KIND OF DAMAGE. RECOMMEND NISSAN ISSUE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL ON THIS PART FOR SAFETY REASONS. THIS COMPROMISES SAFE HANDLING TO SOME DEGREE. *TR
I HAVE A CRACK SEPARATING IN A PERFECT SEEM AROUND THE NISSAN SYMBOL ON THE STEERING WHEEL, WHERE AN AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY- FROM THE FAR LEFT, ALL THE WAY TO THE FAR RIGHT. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY SPECIFIC INCIDENT THAT HAS CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR, THIS ISSUE WAS NOTICED BY MYSELF ON 11/17/14. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE TEMPE AUTONATION NISSAN 11/18/14 AT 3 PM TO MEET WITH THE SERVICE TEAM MEMBER, [XXX]. I WAS EXPLAINING THE CRACK AND SEPARATING OF THE MATERIALS TO [XXX] PRIOR TO HIM LOOKING AT MY CAR.AFTER SHOWING HIM THE WHEEL, I HAD STATED "I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE THIS SITUATION LOOKS VERY SAFE AND IT'S DEFINITELY NOT COMFORTABLE", AND [XXX] REPLIED "YEAH", AGREEING WITH MY STATEMENT. [XXX] PROCEEDED TO TAKE DOWN MY VIN AND LOOK IT UP IN HIS COMPUTER.HE SAID MY CAR WAS NOT A PART OF ANY RECALLS AND THAT...
I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA AND THE REAR SWAY BAR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE SNAPPED. IT APPEARS TO BE HOLLOW WHICH IS NOT THE CORRECT DESIGN FOR SUCH A PART. THIS SHOULD BE A SOLID PIECE DUE TO ITS LOCATION ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR. I BELIEVE NISSAN USED A CHEAPER HOLLOW/INAPPROPRIATE BAR TO SAVE MONEY WHILE IGNORING THE CUSTOMER'S SAFETY. I WAS DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND MY REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AND I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY. NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ARE UNWILLING TO REPAIR IT FOR FREE BECAUSE IT WASN'T RECALLED. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
2007 NISSAN ALTIMA REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND LOOKING ON LINE IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE MANY CASES OF THIS HAPPENING, IT MOST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT AND IT MIGHT NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR
REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED OFF AT POINT INSIDE RUBBER BUSHING ON DRIVER'S SIDE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS MESSAGE BOARDS, YOUTUBE, AND THE NHTSA SAFETY COMPLAINT WEB SITE. THE SWAY "BAR" IS ACTUALLY A HOLLOW TUBE, LIKE A PIPE, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE LOAD OF THE VEHICLE DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. BROKEN PIECE WAS HANGING DOWN VERY CLOSE TO THE GROUND (LESS THAN 1/2 INCH) AND WAS RATTLING/BANGING/RUBBING AGAINST OTHER SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AND CABLES. OTHERS MAY HAVE NOTICED SPARKS COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN HITTING BUMPS/DIPS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. (IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR DRAGGING METAL TO START FIRES LIKE THIS.) I HAD ALSO NOTICED THAT WHILE MAKING TURNS, IT FEELS LIKE THE SUSPENSION IS "LOOSE" AND THE VEHICLE IS HARDER TO CONTROL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS IN THE STEERING WITH A METAL TO METAL SOUND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER REGAINED CONTROL AND MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE NEAREST INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A FRACTURED STEERING ROD AS A RESULT OF RUST CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
APPROXIMATELY 12/24/12 NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR. ON 12/27/12 STOPPED TO HAVE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED AND ASKED IF THEY COULD CHECK THE REAR END. THE TECH ADVISED THAT SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN IN TWO ON THE RIGHT REAR OF VEHICLE. *TR
REAR STABILIZER BAR (AKA SWAY BAR) SNAPPED ON DRIVER'S SIDE. WAS TURNING RIGHT FROM A STOP AND HEARD A "SPRUNG" NOISE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A SMALL POTHOLE. A WEEK LATER, NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING UNDER THE CAR - IT WAS PART OF THE BAR. NO RUST UNDER THE CAR WHATSOEVER - FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION WOULD BE HIGHLY UNLIKELY. METAL FATIGUE, MANUFACTURER DEFECT, OR UNDER-ENGINEERED SUSPENSION DESIGN ARE MORE LIKELY. BODY ROLL A BIT MORE PRONOUNCED THAN BEFORE THE INCIDENT, BUT VEHICLE IS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE. CAR OUT OF WARRANTY. PURCHASED AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT PART AND WILL BE INSTALLING IT MYSELF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES DURING THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING AND MADE A RIGHT TURN WHEN MY FAMILY AND I HEARD A POP. I DID NOT HIT A POTHOLE OR ANYTHING UNUSUAL. DID NOT REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED UNTIL A FEW DAYS LATER WHEN I WENT TO MY MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE STRUTS AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN. FOR NO REASON IT BROKE AND I THINK THAT IT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD MAKE THIS PART A RECALL. I LOVE OBVIOUSLY NISSAN BECAUSE IN MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY WE OWN THREE OF THEM. I LOVE TO CONTINUE TO BE A NISSAN OWNER, BUT IF THEY CANNOT CONTINUE TO MAKE RELIABLE CARS, WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE OUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. I HAVE A RUBBING OR SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR ONLY WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE NISSAN DEALER COULD HEAR IT BUT COULD NOT ISOLATE IT. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN THAT HAD THE REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN TWO. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAD MENTIONED THAT IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT UPON AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION BY A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC, THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE AREA SURROUND THE AREA WHERE THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED. ALSO, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS MANUFACTURED AS A HOLLOW TUBE AND THEREFORE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE TENSION. THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN THE CONNECTION POINT WHERE IT WAS MOUNTED ON THE CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE READ ABOUT OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WHICH HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. ON 12/13/2008 AT 9:00 A.M. MY 24 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ENTERED HER 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA AND WAS GOING X-MAS SHOPPING. THE ENTRANCE TO THE EXPRESSWAY IS LESS THEN ONE QUARTER MILE. SHE ENTERED THE EXPRESSWAY AND CHANGED LANES TO THE FAR LEFT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE OF DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY HER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO NAVIGATE THE STEERING. SHE STARTED TO BRAKE AND AS SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE AND SLOW HER VEHICLE ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SPIN CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN WALL. NO INJURIES, NO OTHER VEHICLES DAMAGED BUT HER VEHICLE HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT GRILL ,FENDERS AND BUMPER. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. *TR
