On June15, 2025, the passenger’s side vent window glass partially delaminated from the actuator assembly while driving, damaging the actuator and window glass. The front passenger window has never sealed properly since we purchased the RV new. Newmar was notified of this in August 2021, when the coach was returned to Nappanee, IN for warranty repairs. After the window failure, I discovered that Lippert/Newmar issued an NHTSA Recall for these windows on September 8, 2021. The recall notes the issue as being: “the adhesive that bonds the vented portion of the window may fail. Adhesive failure may cause the vent portion of the window to detach…”. We did not receive this recall notice from Newmar. This window, part number 757205, is covered under Lippert HEHR6400 Series Window Vent Recall, NHTSA recall number: 21E047. I contacted Lippert immediately following the window failure on June 16, 2025. After being provided photographic documentation of the window failure, as well as confirmation of the defective part number, Lippert issued case number: 5952303. On June 18, 2025, Lippert instructed me to contact the OEM (Newmar) to arrange inspection and repair of the recalled window with an authorized dealer. On June 18, 2025, I contacted Newmar, who denied responsibility for the recall defect claiming the window had been inspected in August of 2021. When I informed Newmar that I would be filing a complaint with the NHTSA, I was issued a Newmar case number: 00989760. Since June 18, 2025, I have contacted every authorized Newmar Dealer within a 250 mile radius, providing them with: the recall information, Lippert and Newmar case numbers, and the part number for the recalled defective window. To date, no dealership has responded or even contacted Newmar for authorization. On July 9, 2025 I again attempted to contact Newmar to progress the matter and have yet to receive any form of reply. My experience with Newmar is that this recalcitrance is the norm.
The integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this vehicle has never functioned correctly since it was purchased new in October, 2020. The system either drops connection fully, drops various tires on the coach, or randomly alarms for extreme high/low temperature and pressure. In August of 2021, the vehicle was driven 1600 miles to Newmar’s factory in Indiana for warranty repairs. The TPMS was on that list. Newmar disavowed all warranty responsibility for the system and its failures, and directed us to Freightliner. The RV has been returned to Doggett Freightliner in El Paso, TX multiple times since 2020 for recall repairs on the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The last repair attempt was in January 2023 for Freightliner recall 9. This recall was not completed due to unavailability of repair parts. Doggett Freightliner has not responded to any of my calls since, and the repairs have yet to be completed. On a recent 3600 mile trip in December of 2023. The TPMS system alarmed for high temperatures (exceeding 400 degrees F) multiple times. It alarmed for high pressure multiple times. Each time the system alarmed, I pulled over at the nearest safe location and checked the tire pressure manually. Every time the manual checks indicated the tire pressure was in a safe zone. It has now been over 3 years since we purchased this vehicle with this factory safety defect. Newmar has refused assist with any form of corrective action. Freightliner has yet to effectively complete any recall work due to the apathy and ineptitude of their authorized Dealer and Repair facility, Doggett Freightliner in El Paso, TX. And, we, as the owners of the vehicle continue to deal with unacceptable safety risk, due to a malfunctioning system.
The Valor TPMS system on the Freightliner chassis has not worked correctly for as long as I have owned the coach. I was hopeful that recent recall work performed by a Freightliner service center on the system would help but it actually made the system worse. As was prior to the recall work several of the sensors still fail to report their pressures completely, others report only sporadically. This essentially renders the system useless as the driver may not be made aware of a loss of tire pressure while driving. Additionally, since the recall work was performed, a high pressure warning now displays when the tires heat up in normal driving conditions. This warning is distracting and appears separately for each tire. When the warning appear it blocks the digital speedometer and other vital information on the dashboard from displaying until the warning is cleared manually.
THE TPMS SYSTEM INCORRECTLY REPORTS TIRE TEMPERATURES FALSELY AND DOES NOT REPORT AIR PRESSURE. TEMPERATURES IN EXCESS OF 400 DEGREES F ARE COMMONLY REPORTED. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOW ISSUE WITHIN NEWMAR AND THEIR DEALER NETWORKS FOR RV'S BUILT ON THE FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS.*DT CONSUMER STATED MANUFACTURER HAS NO IDEA WHEN IT WOULD BE REPAIRED.*JB*DT*DT*JB*JB
