I was driving on the interstate and when I went over a little bump my truck started to shake like it was going to loose control. I read up on this and people who own jeeps refer to it as the death waddle is there a recall on this issue.

Concern: Suspension, steering, and electrical system malfunction Description of the Problem: While driving at highway speeds (approximately 75 mph), the vehicle experiences a wiggling or unstable sensation in the suspension, making the car feel unsafe. At the same time, the steering wheel becomes stiff and difficult to turn. Additionally, a warning message appears stating “Service Shifter.” When this occurs, the electrical system freezes, affecting vehicle functions. This electrical malfunction lasts for 1 to 2 days, during which systems do not respond properly before eventually resetting on their own. Safety Concern: The suspension instability, loss of steering responsiveness, and electrical failure at high speeds present a serious safety risk to the driver and others on the road. Request: Requesting a full inspection of the suspension, steering system, shifter system, and electrical components, including any sensors or modules that may be causing these failures.

The steering wheel started to shake and then escalated to the whole car shaking at which time I had to stop the vehicle on the highway to make it stop shaking. This isn’t the first time this has happened.

My 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 2.0 liter turbo engine has had two failed “Rear Axle Assemblies or differentials” within 3 years of each other. The first time was in July 2022, and my service repair order says rear Diff replacement. Now this time, my dealer is saying we need the whole rear axle assembly which is on national back order. No current ETA for delivery, with no additional info other than none are even in production at this time. Since my vehicle is under warranty for another 4,000 miles or so, I would like to use Stellantis warranty for my repair. However, They are no help and are saying we cannot order a different OE part, or a used part. The vehicle is unsafe to drive as I can feel my loss of control especially on wet roads in Florida. After searching the internet I have found this is...

When driving over 55 + jeep shakes violently also does the same when going in reverse. Rollover warning ⚠️ light is constantly on warning me not to drive over a certain mph. Diagnostic test came back as faulty suspension.

Our rear axle broke while driving on the highway 600 miles from home with our 2 children. Vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was confirmed. Vehicle has now sat for 3 months because the part is on backorder. It seems as though this is a common issue if they can't keep up with the part needed. There is no warning lights or any way to know this happens until you get stuck. We had the vehicle in the shop not long before getting brakes and an Inspection and there were no issues noted.

Our 2019 Jeep recently experienced the “death rattle” where the steering and suspension shake violently at speeds 65 mph and above. This recently occurred on a 70 mph freeway and nearly caused a sideswipe accident with a large semi as I was thrown from my travel lane. The Jeep owners forum (and Fiat Chrysler America) know about this issue with the steering dampener, but neither the NHTSA nor FCA has seen fit to issue a warning or recall. Our Jeep is never taken off-road and is under 60,000 miles. We are the original owners, and the Jeep is currently with the dealer.

while driving on Interstate Highyway aproximately 65 MPH and passing over a bridge the front end started shaking violently. I hit the brakes and it finally stopped as I slowed. It did this 6 times on the same trip and has repeated multiple times. I took it to the dealer and told them it had done this when I first bought it and they said they would have to evalaute it. When I first bought the car it had 19k miles on it with this death wobble. They said it needed a recall accomplished and it never happened again. Now the car has 71k miles on it and it is happening again. The dealer says they have to order a part. I believe the car is unsafe to drive on an interstate with this condition. Also owners with similar Jeeps have to be aware that this condition which was fixed...

The car is having electrical issues that the dealer service is unable to diagnose. They have since ordered a part but they are not certain that this will fix the problem. The car has been in service 3 times. Twice for an uncontrollable shaking that comes from no where, this has fixed the problem temporarily, however it continues. If I hit highway speeds the car shakes making it difficult to drive. The electrical issue for lack of a better word causes the car to stop as there is no acceleration at this point, making it difficult and extremely dangerous to drive. I drive an hour and half to work with fear. I don't want to cause an accident nor do I want anyone else getting hurt. The car has had issues since we first bought it. But thought ok, they are trying to fix the issues so have said nothing...

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH on a bumpy road surface, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated that the steering wheel and the front end of the vehicle shuddered significantly. The contact decelerated to approximately 55 MPH, and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I hit a bump at 65 mph. Then my jeep started to shake from side to side so viciously that I thought it was going to fall apart. I did some research and it’s called a death wobble! For some reason there are no recalls on my specific Vehicle .

Sometime in January of 2019, while living in Florida my Jeep had recall work done to make repairs related to the “death wobble” prevalent in 2018-2020 Jeeps. In 2020, after purchasing the vehicle, I experienced the death wobble. I then took my vehicle in to Orlando Chrysler, and was informed that when the recall repair was done, the part involved was installed backwards. The completed the necessary repair. I had not experienced the situation again until yesterday, when I picked up my Jeep from the Dodge dealership in Greenville, South Carolina, where Another recall was being dealt with. I returned to the dealership and was told in no uncertain terms they did nothing, and because there are no outstanding recalls on the vehicle related to the death wobble, they are under no obligation to do anything about it, including checking to see if the previously recalled parts that were replaced...

While driving at interstate speed and passing over an irregular surface the jeep started to shimmy and I later found out it was called "Death Wobble". The jeep started to wonder across the lanes of the highway and I had to slow to 45 mph to stop the shimmy and get control of the vehicle, I assume the the problem is in the steering or the front suspension. After talking to a mechanic I found out that a recall has already been performed to replace the steering vibration damper. The mechanic could not find any loose or damaged front end parts upon inspection. Since the initial incident the shimmy has happened multiple times at slower and slower speeds. There was no prior warning by the jeep instrument panel.
#11578815 |
The front suspension steering damper on my vehicle not effectively damp oscillation of the steering system, resulting in a sustained shake or shimmy in the steering wheel. This can be more noticeable when driving at speeds exceeding 55 Miles Per Hour (MPH) 88 Kilometers Per hour (KPH) after contacting a bumpy road surface and in temperatures below 40° Fahrenheit (5° Celsius).

While driving the last couple days, our 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon unlimited started the “Death Wobble”, an uncontrollable violent shaking from left to right. Occurred three days in a row, took vehicle to Jeep dealership to ensure extended warranty coverage

1st problem was death wobble on highway took to dealer fix, 2nd problem was death wobble on highway tire rods fixed. 3rd problem stealing lock on highway and car wobbling. Towing to dealer. All times car had to be towed. All times going 50 on highway which has been dangerous.

Had damper replaced due to death wobble at 39k miles under extended warranty related to FCA lawsuit. At 59k miles experienced same death wobble and nearly crashed at highway speeds. Took it in and they said the cause was the tie rods were bad, damper was within threshold, but would replace it too as a courtesy and abundance of caution. Wouldn’t do damper replacement without tie rod fix though. Didn’t have damper and would take 5 days to get in (1 day for tie rod part), but when I stated I wanted to repair it they miraculously came up with all the parts and had it finished before tie rod part even showed up. My complaint is that the original FCA lawsuit where they replaced damper was a bandaid for the real problem which is the tie rods. I paid the $2500 but will be pushing this up the chain...

I bought this 2019 jeep wrangler and it is still under manufacturer warranty on the transmission and the steering damper . The transmission in my car was leaking bad and I took it to the jeep dealership and they did not know what was wrong or how to fix it . They are all incompetent and stupid and unprofessional and know nothing about cars also the recall on the steering damper was done 2 years ago and now I had to replace it because the car was dangerously shaking very bad . The transmission is still under manufacturer warranty and I took it to another shop and he fixed the leak in the transmission and he said it’s it’s the cooler line connector in the transmission so this repair that cost me 478 dollars should be refunded to me from Jeep manufacturer since it’s still under warranty

When driving at speeds of approximately 45+ the front end for no apparent reason begins to violently shake back & forth making the vehicle impossible to control. You must immediately put on the brakes to slow the vehicle until the wobbling stops. This has progressively gotten worse. It’s what is referred to as the Jeep death wobble. It is in the shop now waiting to be looked at.

I have had a multitude of problems with this vehicle since driving it off the lot. The most recent “the jeep death wobble”

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55–73 MPH, the vehicle was shaking violently. While driving over a bump in the road, the vehicle was uncontrollable. The contact pulled over several times to regain control of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Driving 60+ miles you hit a bump and the truck starts shaking real bad the whole truck That the only way to make the vehicle stop from shaking is slowing down the speed to 30 mph or complete stop until it goes away the terrible shaking. I already reemplace many suspension parts like the track bar,tie rod and the drag link and still having that issue

My 2019 jeep wrangler steering wheel starts to vibrate then shake and then the car shakes while I am driving on the highway. It happened 4 times in the last week. One time last week , 2 times last night and once tonight while driving on the highway.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating and shaking abnormally. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the tires to be balanced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

This issue has been going on for over a year now. Vehicle shakes violently when leaving uneven surfaces such as coming off of a bridge on the highway. You have to come to a complete stop to get it to stop shaking. This is very dangerous when on a highway. Vehicle has been inspected by local dealership and parts have been ordered but continue to be on backorder. The dealership states that they have seen other jeeps with this issue. I personally know people who have also experienced this, and not all have the same year as my jeep.

I have a 2019 Jeep wrangler. Within the first 3 months of having my jeep I experienced issues with the battery. I came to a stop at a stop sign, the auto on/of turned the vehicle off but then it wouldn't come back on when I tried to drive. It showed a battery light and the auto on/off sign with an exclamation mark first then all lights on the dashboard started flickering, windshield wipers came on, and then it started beeping. I had to get a tow truck to get my car out the street. When I took it to the dealership they said both batteries needed to be replaced. Since then I have had the same situation happen twice for a total of 3 times in my 1 year of having the car. Each time I have to tow the jeep to the dealership and replace the batteries. They...

I purchased this vehicle used and out of warranty in February of this year 2023. I've had continuous issues with the steering. I have contacted my local dealerships explaining my issues. I've contacted FCA explaining my issues. By both I'm told I need to bring my vehicle in for a diagnostic test that will cost me $250 plus dollars and then ANY REPAIR will cost out of pocket. The vehicle wonders while driving at speeds any speed, but more so at highway speeds, I have almost 2" of slop in my steering wheel, a shimmy in the front and have experienced DEATH WOBBLE numerous times. My family will not ride in my wrangler and I personally feel it is UNSAFE as well. I have already personally replaced ball joints and an aftermarket steering stabilizer in hopes of correcting these issues. I learned that FCA is aware of an issue with...
#11519491 |
The front axle steering stabilizer shock/damper failed at approximately 36 months after delivery, to the point where the the front end shakes violently when the vehicle goes over a bump at highway speeds and the front tires hit the bump at diffferent times, i.e., diagonal overpass joint. This is a known issue, commonly referred to as "death wobble." Stellantis has settled a class action lawsuit related to this phenomon, Reynolds, et. al. vs FCA US LLC, and extended the vehicle warranty for this issue to 8 years and 90,000 miles. That's all well and good. Here's the problem: There are no parts available. Jeep has sourced a FOX SHOX steering stabilizer but it has been on continual backorder since October 2022. My vehicle was diagnosed in November 2022. I can't get a part at least until the end of summer 2023. An extended warranty doesn't help if I can't get...

When I was driving on a plane road with no bumps my steering wheel started to shake violently making the whole car and dashboard shake. I’ve called jeep to inform them but they said it is not covered and there is no recall for my vehicle instead want to run a diagnostic and have me pay for the repairs and diagnostic even though it’s a leased vehicle.

Was driving interstate in San Diego, CA about 65 mph and on 4 different occasions when I hit a bump or rough patch of road the front end of the car and steering wheel started shaking violently. It was hard to control the vehicle and I had nowhere I could go because I was in traffic at high speeds. Was finally able to move over to a side lane and slow the vehicle down which caused the shaking to stop. No lights of any kind came on in the vehicle. Very dangerous for this to be happening on CA roads with such heavy traffic. Not only does it put me at risk, but others as I have to slow down to 40-45 mph for the shaking to stop. Will be taking it in to dealership for inspection. As I have researched...this appears to be another case of the "death wobble".
#11505727 |
I experienced the Jeep Death Wobble on 5 occasions. All five happened at 60 mph or above. The car would suddenly shake violently and felt like it was falling apart. I feared i couldn't steer it, which I had a hard time doing, until i calmed down and started braking. When i got to a slower speed it went back to normal. The front track bar was replaced and an alignment was needed again at 12,000 miles. I first noticed the car going out of alignment before this all happened, then the wobble followed at higher speeds. It was a very scary experience all five times. I read about it and found that the last few times when i hit a small bump it would activate the wobble until i slowed down. This is very upsetting for me as my daughter also drives the car and I feel it is...
#11505383 |
I have experienced the death wobble 4-5 times. The dealer says they have already replaced the steering damper once already. I am concerned there are more issues with the steering system on this Jeep.
#11504633 |
Vehicle's front end violently shakes harmonically side to side when driving over 50 mph upon hitting uneven surfaces on highway and interested. When this occurs, the driver loses the ability to safely steer and must brake which is also unsafe to do on the highway or interstate. The harmonic vibration resonates until the speed is reduced to approximately 35 mph.
#11504794 |
I have been experiencing the death wobble ever since I bought the Jeep. I’ve brought it back to the dealer 2 times and they just told me to get different tires. I spent 1,500 on new tires and still experience the same thing. When I go over bumps or bridge seams on the freeway, my entire front end wobble out of control almost causing me to crash every time. My kids are terrified to drive in the jeep, and I keep asking for it to be fixed before someone gets hurt. Date of incident would be from Aug 30, 2021 to today Feb 31, 2023. It’s every time I drive on the freeway.

No warning. Driving down the road at 45 or above taking a curve and hitting a bump in the road the jeep starts bouncing and the steering starts jerking. I have been informed that there is a law suit stating that this is because of front suspension steering damper.
#11501908 |
At any speed over 55 mph any bump or irregularity on the road causes the front tires to rapidly bounce up and down from the left side wheel to the right side wheel. There's almost zero steering control. Emergency braking to under 20 mph is necessary to stop the vibration and regain steering control. Sometimes a complete stop in the travel lane of a highway is necessary. The vehicle was purchased used with 18K miles. After 5K miles a vibration was felt at the front wheels anytime driving over bridge or overpass. At 30K miles the vibration/bounce occasionally required emergency braking. The closest dealer was booked during the Holidays and it was over 30 days for an appointment. During the appointment was told it was the steering dampener, a "known issue" but, the parts are on backorder, no ETA provided. The vehicle is currently unable to drive over 50 mph...

Bought a used 2019 Jeep Wrangler with approx 17000 miles. At speeds between 60-75 mph on highway roads that have small bumps and or divots, the front axle begins a divergent shudder and wobble side to side that is uncontrollable. It has happened now 7 times. In traffic I have almost caused accidents because the vehicle is not controllable with the steering wheel. At highway speeds, the only way to make the divergent wobble decrease and go away is to immediately step on the brakes in an emergency mode, hope you don't get rear ended and pull off the road. The vehicle has been inspected in detail by two different organizations. I have had the alignment checked, it's perfect. Shocks are perfect. Everything is fine, accept, when the perfect harmonic is reached on a bump at highway speeds, the front axle goes ballistic and makes the vehicle uncontrollable. This is...

Death wobble where the Jeep shakes so violently that you can lose control. It has done this since new. I take it back to the dealer and they say Jeep is aware of the problem and they are working on a fix. Jeeps fix is a replacement steering damper. When I reported it to the dealer, I was told I had to wait until a fix was released. finally at 2125 miles they replaced the first damper. On the way home it death wobbled again. I had to wait again; at 2285 miles they replaced the track bar. The Jeep didn't handle or feel right but it didn't death wobble until Thanksgiving 2022 250 miles from home. I brought it back in and they replaced the steering damper again at 14668 miles. I was told by the service department there are over 6000 dampers on back order. This needs to...

“Death wobble” is happening on Highway when going over 65mph. Took it to the dealership and said there is nothing wrong with the Jeep. Steering wheel shakes violently causing entire vehicle to rattle. Very scary and hard to control
#11494512 |
My Jeep is experiencing the death wobble when driving in the highway. Which causes the jeep to violently shake the right side of the front wheel. I have taken it to two jeep dealerships and was told that it can be due to the suspension or differential. I have not drove this jeep on rough terrain or 4 by 4. The dealership is looking into the suspension system for the death wobble problem. The jeep currently stands at 40,000 miles. I also have a warning lamp that shows to service the axle locker system. According to the dealer, the axle locker system is an electrical issue and not a mechanical one. I wanted to report this problem as it is a safety issue and it is dangerous to drive in this condition.

Death wobble same as my 2008 wrangler that I traded in for a newer model and same problem! Someone will die, it's terrible!!! It happened 3 times in 1 day. I can't take it on the expressway at all.

On 10-23-2022 while driving on I64 in West Virginia I experienced extreme shaking in the steering wheel and bouncing in the front end of my Jeep. I took the vehicle to the Jeep dealer in Beckley, WV and when I explained the problem a member of the service department stated "That is the shimmy shock." I was told there had been an information bulletin put out on this problem and a temporary solution recommended. On September 5, 2019, I took my Jeep into the dealer I bought it from in ref. to recall# V41 and had the steering damper replaced. On October 31, 2022, I took it in to the dealer for repair and the mechanic noted the wrong damper is installed, the right shock is leaking, and they recommended replacing the Michelin tires that have only 39121 miles on them.

Both front shocks broke and needed to be replaced. Needed a 4-wheel alignment because of this. Broke steering damper. Part not able to get fixed as Chrysler won't release the required part until November 15th even though other Jeeps of this year have been recalled due to this issue. I have the repair paperwork. Experienced a "Death Wobble" on Thursday, October 27th. I'm lucky that I didn't panic and was able to get it out of traffic and on the right side of the road. The Jeep and cab shook violently. Issue confirmed by an independent repair shop. Have paperwork to backup claim. No one else besides the independent shop verified the issue. Dealership claimed it couldn't exist because my vehicle style is not part of the original recall for this issue they are aware of. No, there was no prior warning before this occured.
#11480901 |
The steering has become very loose, causing the vehicle to feel as though it were drifting with every bump. Entering into a parking lot, or going over speed bumps cause the vehicle to feel as though you are jerking the steering wheel back & forth, with the whole body of the vehicle rocking. Changing lanes requires the upmost care when merging, so as not to cause too much movement, otherwise the entire vehicle rocks back & forth as though you were off-roading on extremely uneven turf. God forbid you attempt to avoid hitting something that jumps in front of you car; that is bound to cause the car to flip! Doesnt matter if you're traveling 5mph or 65 mph, the drifting is obvious & pretty scary.

When driving down the interstate my 2019 jeep hit a small bump in the road. Front end started shaking violently. At first I thought I had blown a tire but tire pressure warning did not show on dashboard. I let off the gas and it ebbed till gone. I was going 70 miles an hour when it started. It was intermittent through out the day and started each day after

Experienced the death wobble. Front tires began to oscillate violently causing loss of steering control on a highway. Went on for ~20 seconds, almost ran off the road and would have crashed. No indications prior to event, smooth highway speed driving right up to extreme violent shaking. Fighting with the wheel to steer to stay on the road was ineffective. The only thing that saved us was it suddenly stopped on its own. Before this event there were several short, less severe instances of wobbling.

Experienced “death wobble” at 60mph. Vehicle has 22k miles and steering components checked out to be good. This is very unsafe and scary. Steering wheel started shaking violently and had to slow way down, almost to complete stop, to regain control. Thank you
