Front and rear crossmembers are rusted through. Replaced front subframe for $1008.00 in 2021. Available for inspection. Could come to a complete stop if it breaks. Confirmed by independent service center. Not inspected yet. Front squeak heard 2021. Rear squeak heard 2022. This is my 2nd jeep patriot & both jeeps front & rear crossmembers are rusted through breaking apart.
THE K FRAME IS ROTTED OUT, THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL BUT WHEN I TOOK IT UP I CAN'T FIND ONE.
I MADE A U-TURN IN MY VEHICLE ON A TOWN STREET , AS I COMPLETED THE U-TURN THE VEHICLES REAR SUSPENSION BROKE. THE BROKEN SUSPENSION MADE THE VEHICLE FEEL LIKE IT WAS GOING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP, THE SUSPENSION BEING BROKE MADE THE WHEELS TURN IN TOWARDS THE WHEEL WELLS WHERE IT RUBBED AND EVENTUALLY BLEW MY TIRE. I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PULL OFF SAFELY. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TOO A AUTO SHOP THEY TOLD ME THE SUSPENSION RUSTED IN TWO .IT HAD TO BE MOVED WITH A FLAT BED. I HAD THE VEHICLES FRONT FIXED IN JANUARY OF 2017 . WHICH WAS UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS SO THE VEHICLES REAR TOOK AN EXTRA THREE YEARS TO RUST OUT WHICH IS ONLY TWO YEARS OVER THE WARRANTY. I HAVE ENCLOSED A COPY OF BILL FROM WHEN THEN FRONT WAS DONE.
I HAD TO HAVE THE SUBFRAME AND CROSS MEMBER REPLACED ON MY 2008 PATRIOT IN JANUARY 2017, IT HAS RUSTED AGAIN AND THE SAME PARTS NEED REPLACED, IT WAS REPLACED OE PARTS WHICH I FEEL WERE FAULTY. I WAS MAKING A U-TURN ON A SMALL CITY STREET AND MY REAR CROSS MEMBER BROKE, I THOUGHT I RAN OVER A SOMETHING THEN MY STEERING WHEEL SHIMMED , MY TIRES THAT WERE HELD IN THE CROSS MEMBER WERE NOW TILTED IN TO MY CROSS MEMBER MAKING BLACK SMOKE. MY TIRE RUBBED ON MY WHEEL WELL UNTILL BLEW . I WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS NOT GOING FAST WHEN THIS OCCURED.
WENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE, MECHANIC NOTED THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WAS RUSTED AND, SHOULD IT BREAK, MY TIRES WOULD FOLD IN AND ENGINE WOULD FALL OUT. JEEP RECALLED THOSE PART ON ITS 2007 PATRIOTS, BUT NOT ON 2008, DESPITE WHAT SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CRUCIAL PART RUSTING PREMATURELY. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2017 (THE YEAR WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE) AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS IS A DIRE MATTER OF SAFETY AND IT'S SHAMEFUL THAT JEEP WON'T LIFT A FINGER TO REPLACE THESE PARTS. REPAIR ESTIMATES ARE $1300-1500 FOR A VEHICLE VALUED BY KBB AT LESS THAN $500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE REVERSING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
ROTTED SUBFRAME. THIS IS UNSAFE! WE PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD AND THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH AND CRACKED! WHY IS THE YEAR AFTER RECALLED AND NOT THIS YEAR?

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED 2008 JEEP PATRIOT AND WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS MANUFACTURE DEFECT OF THE AC DRAIN RUNS ON OR THROUGH THE SUBFRAME WHICH ACCELERATES THE RUSTING PROCESS. THERE WAS A 10 YEAR 150,000 MILES EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PART WHICH HAS EXPIRED BUT WE WERE UNAWARE OF THIS AS IT WAS BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE JEEP. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THAT WAS ONLY THIS PAST FEBRUARY (FOR THE 10 YEARS) BUT WE STILL ONLY HAVE 122,000 MILES ON THE JEEP. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY, WE WERE GIVE A QUOTE OF $942.76 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TOLD US WE COULD CALL JEEP CARES AT 1-800-992-1997 AND THEY ALSO SAID THEY CAN'T HELP US. WE ARE WAITING FOR A SUPERVISOR TO CALL US BACK...
I WENT TO GET MY TIRE ALIGNMENT AND I WAS TOLD THE SUB FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED. COMMON UNSAFE ISSUE WITH JEEP. RECALLS ON 2007 BUT NOTHING ON THE 2008. COST WILL BE ABOUT $900+.
IN AUGUST 2017, THE VEHICLE UNDERWENT MAINTENANCE WITH NO REPORTED PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS. IN MAY 2018, DRIVING FELT UNSTABLE. NEW TIRES WERE NEEDED, SO AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE ALONG WITH AN ALIGNMENT TO COVER BASES. THE MECHANIC CALLED AND REPORTED THAT TIRES COULD NOT SAFELY BE PUT ON, DUE TO CORROSION ALONG THE CAR'S SUBFRAME (AKA CROSSMEMBER); THE MECHANIC DEMONSTRATED BY SHOWING HOW EASILY PERFORATION OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A DEALERSHIP; WHILE THE SUBFRAME WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY, THE CORROSION WAS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT BALDING TIRES COULD NOT BE REPLACED WITHOUT EXTENSIVE PARTS REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN FROM ONE GARAGE TO ANOTHER, IN VARIOUS CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN ON SEVERAL DIRT ROADS ROUGHLY TWO YEARS AGO, BUT MAJORITY OF DRIVING WAS ON HIGHWAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2016. SPECIFIC OCCURRENCE AND ONSET OF CORROSION TO SUBFRAME NOT KNOWN.
I START HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY AIRBAG IN MY JEEP LAST YEAR. I TOOK MY JEEP INTO MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER LAST YEAR. THE DEAL STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG. THE DEAL THAT I'M HAVING IS THAT SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND I SEE THAT THEIR IS A RECALL ON THIS NAME BRAND AIRBAG FOR THIS VEHICLE. I'M ASKING COULD YOU PLEASE ADD MY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER TO YOUR RECALL LIST THANK YOU.

K FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED. K FRAME IS UNDER THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN. THE FRONT WHEEL SUSPENSION IS ALSO ATTACHED TO K FRAME.
ROTTING SUBFRAMES, FRONT AND REAR. ENGINE DRAIN DRIPS ONTO FRONT SUBFRAME, KEEPING THE SUBFRAME WET AND CAUSING IT TO RUST OUT. JEEP RECALLED THE 2007 MODEL YEAR TO REPLACE THE SUBFRAMES BUT NOT THE 2008 YEAR, YET THE DESIGN FLAW PERSISTS. ROTTING SUBFRAME CAUSED VEHICLE TO FAIL ANNUAL NH STATE INSPECTION. VEHICLE WAS BUILT AND SOLD IN WHAT CHRYSLER CALLS A "RUST BELT". SO, CHRYSLER CONFIRMS THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY FIXES IT FOR 2007, NOT 2008.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING MAINTENANCE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CORROSION CREATED A HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,348.
FRONT SUBFRAME CROSSMEMBER CORROSION, HOLE RUSTED IN CROSSMEMBER EFFECTING SAFETY. AS REPORTED TO ME BY MY REG. LOCAL MECHANIC WHILE HE WAS PREFORMING OTHER MAINT.ON VEHICLE AS IT WAS RAISED ON VEHICLE LIFT. (SUGGESTED IT WAS DEALER REPAIR) PER TSB 23-012-14 THE PRIOR YR MODEL WAS RECALLLED FOR SAME REASON ON THE SAME PARTS.
REAR CROSSMEMBER/SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY RUSTED THROUGH IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS RESULTING IN LARGE HOLES AND THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNTS TO DETACH FROM THE FRAME AND ROTATE WHILE SHIFTING CAUSING EXCESSIVE NOISE AND DAMAGE.
I TOOK MY JEEP PATRIOT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO PUT A HITCH ON THE BACK FOR A BIKE RACK, AND HE NOTICED THAT MY SUBFRAME/CROSS MEMBER WAS IN DIRE NEED OF REPLACEMENT DUE TO RUST. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A JEEP DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN THESE EARLY GEN. PATRIOTS, AND THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED BY JEEP (CHRYSLER ACTION # 23-012-1) FOR THE 2007 PATRIOT AND COMPASS MODELS. THE DETAILS OF THE RECALL WOULD BE THAT JEEP WOULD COVER THE COST TO REPAIR THE ROTTED SUB FRAMES IN THE 2007 PATRIOTS MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO JULY 2007, AND THE ELIGIBILITY FOR COVERAGE UNDER THIS RECALL IS DECIDED BY VIN NUMBER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT MY JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER JULY 2007, BUT PURCHASED IN MARCH 2008 AND THUS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE SAME RECALL. NOW, I AM CURRENTLY HAVING...
DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, YY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WITH 106,000 WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO A RUSTED FRONT CROSSMEMBER. THERE IS NO OTHER RUST ON THE VEHICLE. THE 2007 JEEP PATRIOTS/COMPASS AND DODGE CALIBERS ALL HAD THEIR WARRANTIES EXTENDED SO THAT THE CROSSMEMBER COULD BE REPLACED. BASED ON INVESTIGATION THROUGH THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT MANY 2008 JEEP PATRIOTS & COMPASSES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT CONSUMERS ARE NOT BEING NOTIFIED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE ROTTED FRAME IS NOT VISIBLE SO DRIVERS WOULD BE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM.

DURING A REPAIR FOR ANOTHER ISSUE, I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE WARRANTY FOR THAT SAME PART IN THE 2007 MODEL OF THAT SAME CAR WAS EXTENDED. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IF I USED A 2008, THE PART COST WOULD BE OVER $600 AND CARRY A WARRANTY, IF I USED THE 2007 PART, WHICH IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE 2008, THE PART WOULD COST UNDER $75.00 BUT CARRY NO WARRANTY. I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THAT THAT INFORMATION WAS TRUE AND THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR MY EXPENSE. THEY INDICATED THEY WOULD SET UP CASE #29675811 AND INFORM ME OF ANY FUTURE ACTIONS/RECALLS FOR THAT PART. I SIMULTANEOUSLY SENT A LETTER TO "CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE" AND YESTERDAY RECEIVED A TELEPHONE CALL CONFIRMING THEIR DENIAL. NOW, HOW DUMB...
THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, ENDED UP WITH A 3-INCH DIAMETER HOLE.
WENT TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE OF NOISE WHEN TURNING. THE PROBLEM WAS A CRACKED RUSTED OUT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH IN THE 2007 PATRIOT AND PROVIDED AN EXTENDED 10YEAR WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO SUPPORT THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE VEHICLE HAS 66K MILES.
WE STARTED TO HAVE A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF OUR CAR WHEN WE DROVE IT. THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE WHEEL, WE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT. HE TOLD US THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HAD IT TOWED TO A JEEP DEALER, SAID IT WAS A GOOD THING WE DIDN'T TRY TO DRIVE IT. IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THE ENGINE COULD HAVE FALLEN OUT IT WE HIT A POT HOLE ON THE WAY THERE. CONTACTED JEEP, THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IN MY RESEARCH I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED IN 2007, 2008, AND 2009 JEEP PATRIOTS.
I BOUGHT 2008 JEEP PATRIOT NEW, THIS SUMMER (2015), I FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO A RUSTED OUT FRONT STEEL FRAME ASSEMBLY, THAT HOLDS THE STEERING UNIT AND THE LOWER ARMS OF THE WHEELS, IT DIRECTLY EFFECTS THE STEERING. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SEEN WHERE CHRYSLER WAS RECALLING OLDER 2007 JEEPS WITH SAME PROBLEMS BUT NOT MINE. THIS JOB COST BETWEEN $900.00 TO $1000.00.
I WAS AT MY MECHANIC GETTING MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT SERVICED WHEN HE CALLED ME INTO THE SHOP TO LOOK AT THE RUST ISSUE THAT THE K FRAME HAS. THE RUST HAS ALREADY BEGAN TO MAKE HOLES IN THE STRUCTURE WHICH WERE NOT THERE AT MY LAST CHANGE 3 MONTHS AGO. I BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT IT SEEMS TO BE QUITE COMMON, SO MUCH THAT THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE 2007 PATRIOT WARRANTY. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OPEN RECALLS ON MY PATRIOT AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WASN'T. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR EVEN AT JUST UNDER 105,000 MILES. THE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE READ ONLINE MENTIONS A MANUFACTURE FLAW THAT HAS THE A/C DRAIN OVER THE FRAME. THIS LEAVES THE OWNER WITH A COSTLY REPAIR THAT IS JEEPS FAULT. I BOUGHT A NEW 2008 JEEP PATRIOT, THAT I PARK IN GARAGE IN WINTER IN THE EVENING WHEN NOT DRIVING, THIS PAST SUMMER (2015), I TOOK MY JEEP TO GET INSPECTED AND THE MECHANIC AT THE GARAGE SAID HE CAN NOT PASS IT DUE TO THE RUSTED OUT SUB FRAME THAT HOLDS THE STEERING, AND FRONT END PARTS; I CALLED THE JEEP DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE THE $600.00 DOLLAR PART ON HAND, WHICH MEANS TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PART THAT IS FAILING. SINCE IT IS A BOX FRAME PIECE IT APPEARS THAT EITHER THE PART WAS NOT CLEANED OR PLATED ON THE INSIDE CORRECTLY, SINCE THESE PARTS ARE RUSTING OUT FROM THE INSIDE TO OUTSIDE, AND BY THE TIME YOU SEE THE RUST IT IS TO LATE AND RUSTED THOUGH CAUSING A DANGER IN FRAME AND STEERING ALL WITHIN JUST A FEW YEARS ( 6)....

WHEN TAKING A TRIP TO THE GROCERY STORE. WHICH IS ABOUT 20 MILES FROM OUR RURAL HOME, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AN ONCOMING SEMI TRUCK WAS COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND WHEN HE PASSED ME, THE HOOD OF THE JEEP LITERALLY LIFTED UP ABOUT 1/2 INCH. THE HOOD DIDN'T COME OFF, THE PINS ACTUALLY CAUGHT IT BEFORE THAT HAPPENED, SO I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WHAT THEY COULD DO WAS TO DRILL TWO HOLES IN THE HOOD OF THE JEEP AND ATTACH HEAVY DUTY COTTER PINS TO KEEP IT SECURE. ADVICE NOT TAKEN! I HAVE LOOKED ON A FEW DIFFERENT COMPLAINT SITES FOR 2008 JEEP PATRIOTS AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO HAVE HAD THIS OCCUR, AND ONE GENTLEMAN'S HOOD ACTUALLY DID COME OFF, CAUSING HIM TO CRASH, LUCKILY HE WAS TREATED FOR SCRAPES AND...
LESS THAN A YEAR FROM BUYING THE PATRIOT A SEVERE WAYER LEAKAGE STARTED FROM THE SUNROOF, SIDES AND INTERIOR LIGHT OF THE JEEP. I LITERALLY NEED AN UMBRELLA INSIDE THE JEEP IN ORDER TO PROTECT ME FROM NOT GETTING ALL WET. THIS HAPPENED CONTINUOUSLY AND CAN HAPPEN WITH THE JEEP PARKED OR RUNNING. THIS MAKE ME HAVE TO STOP DRIVING EVERYTIME IT START TO RAIN BECAUSE OF MY REACTION AND REFLECTS WHEN IT HAPPENS DRIVING HAD MADE ME LOOSE THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND BEING VERY CLOSE TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE MADE MULTIPLE CLAIMS TO THE DEALER AND THE CENTRAL OFFICES OF THE COMPANY HERE IN PR AND LEFT MY JEEP MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE DEALER IN ORDER TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY LEFT ME WITHOUT ANY OTHER CAR IN ORDER TO TRANSPORT MYSELF FOR MORE THAN A WEEK NO MATTER THE JEEP WAS IN WARRANTY. I ALSO...
I PARKED MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THE BANK FLAT PARKING LOT. I PUT IT IN N' AND PULLED THE E BRAKE AND PLACED MY KEYS IN THE CUP HOLDER OF THE JEEP. I WALKED INSIDE AND WAITED IN LINE UNTIL SOMEONE TOLD ME A RED JEEP WAS GOING BACKWARDS DOWN THE MAIN ROAD. I RAN OUT OF THE BANK, DOWN THE ROAD TO FIND MY JEEP STOPPED BY A BRICK WALL WITH THE BRAKE STILL PULLED. NOT ONLY DID IT DRIVE BACKWARDS ON A VERY BUSY ROAD IT MADE A LEFT HAND TURN OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND THEN AGAIN AT THE LIGHT WHERE IT RAN INTO THE WALL.
