TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE STALLS FOR NO REASON. THE FAILURE OCCURS IN TRAFFIC ON OCCASION AND TAKES A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OR UP TO 50 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE STALLING ISSUE. AFTER THE CONTACT COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES, THE DEALER REPLACED THE COIL AND CHARGED THE CONTACT $300. THE DEALER WILL NOT ALLOW THE CONTACT TO RETURN BECAUSE THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH INDIVIDUAL DEALERS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

APPARENTLY SOME FAILURE OCCURED WITH THE JEEP THAT CAUSED SMOKE TO ENTER THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE COMPARTMENT FILLED WITH SMOKE. THE SMOKE HAD AN ARROMA OF ELECTRICITY. EVERYTHING THAT CONSUMER HAD RUNNING SUCH AS THE BLOWER MOTOR/AC WERE TURNED OFF. MRCONSUMER FEELS THE VEHICLE DESIGN ALLOWED DEBRIS TO ENTER THE AIR CONDITIONING AIR BOX AND COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE BLOWER RESISTOR. THIS CAUSED THE DEBRIS TO IGNITE FORM THE HEAT SOURCE, ALSO THE ENGINE GASKET WAS LEAKING OIL. *JG

EXITED OFF FREEWAY, SLOWED DOWN TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. WENT OVER A MANHOLE COVER (NOT A BIG BUMP, NORMAL MANHOLE COVER) HEARD NOISE LIKE THE TIRES PICKED UP A STONE. DROVE 1/2 BLOCK AND HEARD A RUBBING NOISE, DECIDED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER SINCE IT WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AWAY. DEALER SAID THAT THE BOLTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS SHEARED OFF AND MOTOR WAS HANGING. DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY MFG AND THAT IT WAS CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM, I HAVE NEVER HAD A MOTOR MOUNT BREAK AND LEAVE AN ENGINE HANGING, I HAVE NEVER HAD A MOTOR MOUNT BREAK AT 47,000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD, HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ON GRAVEL - IT IS A VERY PAMPERED JEEP! IS THERE ANY RECALL OR SAFETY REGULATIONS ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS? *AK
