AROUND 60,000 MILES, MY DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HARNESS MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AROUND 80,000 MILES, MY PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT HARNESS MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AROUND THE SAME TIME, 80,000 MILES, MY AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK MASTER SWITCH BEGAN FAILING. I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S AN ELECTRICAL FLAW CAUSING THESE PROBLEMS. PERHAPS THE WRITING DOESN'T HOLD UP IN HOT CLIMATES, I LIVE IN A DESERT WHERE THE CAR IS SUBJECT TO TEMPERATURE UP TO 140F AS IT IS PARKED IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. I NOTICE MORE MALFUNCTION WITH LOCKS ON EXTREMELY HOT DAYS.
TAKATA RECALL. MY SON WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR STATE ROUTE AT 9:30PM WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, SHORTLY THERE AFTER, IT STALLED OUT, ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT ON AND WITHIN 2-3 MINS, SMOKE POURED FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND WITHIN 2 MINS THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ONE HUGE BLAZE OF FIRE. HE WAS LUCKY TO GET OUT IN TIME. IT WAS VERY TRAUMATIC FOR HIM TO SAY THE LEAST, NOT TO MENTION AS HIS PARENTS, WE WERE ON FACE TIME WITH HIM AFTER HE PULLED OVER AND SAW THIS AS IT WAS HAPPENING AND COULDN'T BE THERE TO ASSIST HIM.
IN THE TWO YEARS IVE HAD THIS CAR THERE HAVE BEEN 3 RECALLS THAT I HAVE GOTTEN TAKEN CARE OF AT SOUTH CHARLOTTE HYUNDAI HERE IN CHARLOTTE, NC. THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LIGHT WENT OUT I CHANGED THE BULBS 4 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS BECAUSE THE TAIL LIGHT WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO. I HAVE HAD AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE 3 DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR IN JUNE OF 2016 WHERE MY RADIO FREEZES AND I CANT USE ANY OF THE BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL OR DASHBOARD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES THEY DONT KNOW THE PROBLEM SO NOW IVE BEEN JUS UNPLUGGING THE FUSE FOR THE RADIO FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS THEN PLUG IT BACK IN AND IT WORKS I GO THROUGH THIS ONCE EVERY OTHER MONTH. THEN MY LEFT HEAD LIGHT HAS GONE OUT, MY LEFT FOG LIGHT WENT OUT, AND NOW MY...
THE CAR IS NOT COOLING ITSELF. I HAD FREON PUT IN IT AND IN A DAY'S TIME IT HAD STARTED TO SHOW NO SIGNS THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING IN CAR WAS WORKING.
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS SHOWING SIGNS OF FAILURE IN AREAS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH REPAIR OR MAINTENANCE WHICH INCLUDES A NOTED AIRBAG RECALL. BELOW IS A LIST OF ISSUES I'VE HAD WITH MY VEHICLE PERTAINING TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT HAVE ME CONCERNED WITH THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THESE ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED OVER VARIOUS DATES WHICH I'M UNAWARE OF THE SPECIFIC DATES. 1. STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY (AT TIMES WHEN I TRY TO INCREASE THE VOLUME OF THE STEREO, THE VOLUME DOESN'T INCREASE OR STARTS THE VOICE CONTROLS INSTEAD.) 2. THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL IS MALFUNCTIONING SO THE PARKING BRAKE AND SEAT BELT INDICATORS ARE PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATED. 3. PARKING BRAKE LIGHT CASINGS BURNED 4. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WAS ALSO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WITH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND THE KEY FOB FAILED TO CONNECT OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO START THE VEHICLE WITH THE FOB BEING IN THE CHARGER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE DEALER (ROUND ROCK HYUNDAI, 2405 N INTERSTATE HWY 35, ROUND ROCK, TX 78665, (512) 904-6400) WAS CONTACTED, BUT DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON 6/16/18 MY CAR BRAKE LIGHT CAUGHT ON FIRE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT WE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT WE GOT A TICKET FOR THE LIGHTS STAYING ON. THE LIGHT WOULD SOMETIMES NOT TURN OFF OR NOT TURN ON. THEN THE CAR SEEM TO BE WORKING GREAT AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR 3 MONTHS AGO HOPING THAT IT WOULD BE GREAT ON GAS, LAST ME AT LEAST 20 YEARS, AND THAT IT WAS A GREAT CAR TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE. NEXT, THING I KNOW PEOPLE ARE FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS AND BEEPING THEIR HORNS AND ACTING STRANGE TRYING TO GET ME AND MY FIANC'S ATTENTION. WHEN WE BOTH LOOKED BACK WE SAW THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE WHILE WE WERE MOVING 45 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY. WE PULLED OVER ALL OF THE BYSTANDERS HELPED US PUT OUT THE FIRE. WHEN IT WAS FINALLY OUT THE LIGHT HAD MELTED...

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,500.
VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING NO LWARNING LIGHTS
BRAKE LIGHTS FAIL TO LIGHT WHEN NEEDED. ALSO, THE ESC ALERT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE ESC LIGHT COMES ON, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. HOWEVER, THE BRAKE LAMPS HAVE NOT WORKED WHEN THE ESC IS NOT ON. SEEMS RELATED BUT NOT ENTIRELY EXCLUSIVE. DO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE LAMP DEFECT FOR THE 2006-07 HYUNDAI SONATAS AND THERE WAS A RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.
CAR WOULD NOT START. BATTERY DEAD . REPLACED IT. AFTER 4 BATTERIES DEALER SAID IT WAS THE ON STAR DEVICE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. $800 TO REPLACE IT. HAD THEM UNPLUG IT. IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS MY VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO HAVE ELECTRICAL ISSUES RELATED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. IF I TURN ON MY RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK OR JUST TURN OFF. THE RADIO WILL SOMETIMES TURN OFF AS WELL. IF I PRESS ANY OF THE VOLUME BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL FOR THE RADIO, THE CAR THINKS I'M TRYING TO INITIATE VOICE COMMANDS TO CALL SOMEONE. IF I TRY TO TURN ON MY HIGH BEAMS, SOMETIMES IT WORKS, OTHER TIMES THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD. THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF YOU LEAVE THE HEADLIGHTS ON, REMOVE THE KEYS, AND LOCK THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. IT STILL DOES THIS, BUT THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AGAIN LATER AND TRY TO KILL THE BATTERY.

THE ENGINE WAS REPAIRED, AND WHILE THE ENGINE WAS BEING WORKED ON I REPAIRED THE STEERING, NOT KNOWING IT WAS A RECALL. WHEN I FOUND OUT I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE WORK AND GOT A PRINTOUT OF RECEIPT SHOWING THAT I PAID FOR THAT RECALL, ALSO ADVISED THAT I HAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTING SYSTEM FOR THE CAR. LEFT REAR LIGHTING ASSEMBLY MELTED DUE TO REAR LIGHT BULB POSSIBLY SHORTING OUT OR OVER HEATING. IT CAUSED ENOUGH HEAT FOR THE BULB TO BECOME LODGED AND STUCK INTO THE ASSEMBLY DUE TO THE BULB ASSEMBLY MELTING AROUND IT. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD THAT COULD IGNITE THE PLASTIC CAUSING A FIRE IN THE TRUNK. WE ARE ASSUMING THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING. THE BULB THAT BURNT OUT WAS BLACKEN DUE TO THE HEAT.

I TOOK THE CAR TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN PLANTATION, FL, AFTER THE FIRST STARTER DIED, I DO NOT RECALL THE EXACT DATE AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET A REFUND FROM HYUNDAI AS IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETWEEN SEPT.-DEC. 2014. I HAVE ONLY BEEN REIMBURSED $310.00 FROM HYUNDAI TO DATE FOR THE FIRST STARTER. I GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. AS WELL AS THE HORRIBLE TICKING (CYLINDERS NOT INJECTORS!) MAINLY AT FIRST WAS THE RADIO WOULD GO OUT. THE FIRST ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT START SOMETIMES. THEN AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO IT WILL START. I HAVE THE PUSH BUTTON TO START MY CAR. IT IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS. I HAVE 2012 SONATA GLX, MOST OF THE TIME, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE TO GRAB SOMETHINGT CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED THE CAR AND NOTHING OUT OF THE SPEAKERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,658.

THE VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF LOSING POWER COMPLETELY. AT THIS POINT I AM UNABLE TO ENTER THE CAR WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY, YOU HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE STREET. ONCE YOU PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE HORN/ALARM GOES OFF AND DOESN'T STOP. IT ALSO SEEMS TO BE REVVING WHILE IT IS IN PARK. DURING COLD WEATHER, THE 2.0 TURBO SONATA ENGINE WILL CUT POWER TO THE CAR AND GO INTO A "LIMP" MODE IF AN OVER BOOST CODE (USUALLY P0605 & P2110 ), IS TRIGGERED. THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE SITUATION AS THERE IS VERY LITTLE POWER AVAILABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OR CAN CAUSE A REAR VEHICLE CRASH. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE TIMES WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 0 DEGREE DAYS OR EVEN AT 30 DEGREES. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED IF THE BOOST PRESSURE IS EXCEEDED AND MAKES FOR A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE ECU SHOULD NOT BE CUTTING POWER OR FUEL, IT SHOULD BE REDUCING THE BOOST TO COMPENSATE FOR TEMPERATURE. THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE THE POWER TO THE ENGINE, IS TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART.....CODES WILL STILL BE ACTIVE BUT THE POWER WILL RESTORE ITSELF.
