The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light or while the vehicle was in drive, the vehicle failed to move, and the engine shut off unexpectedly. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. To restart the vehicle, the driver had to shift the gear selector into park and then press the start button. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The vehicle exhibits a severe vibration and shaking at normal highway speeds, most notably around 70–80 mph. The condition is repeatable and occurs during steady freeway driving. The vibration is strong enough that the vehicle feels unstable and unsafe to operate at typical highway speeds. This condition significantly affects safe freeway operation. Due to the severity of the shaking, I no longer feel comfortable or safe driving the vehicle at or above normal traffic speeds, which increases risk when merging, maintaining speed with traffic, or responding to road conditions. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by authorized dealerships. Multiple inspections and repair attempts have been performed over several months for the same vibration concern. Major drivetrain components, including the rear differential and driveshaft, were replaced, but the vibration remains unresolved. The servicing dealer has stated they do not have a further diagnostic path and are unable to continue addressing...
The oil pressure sensor causes the light to come on and the engine to run bad and the fix is very very pricey and i have seen MANY people online complaining about this.
When driving at the speed of 20 - 25 MPH the car feels like its skipping or struggling to shifting into the next higher gear. Then all of a sudden it feels like someone rams into the back of us. Then the car will not shift into the next. I took the car into Coconut Creek Automotive LLC. The car just sat there for almost 3 months. They tell me that they could not duplicate the problem. I spoke with a service rep that told me he felt the problem. The Manager said to me that the car had to be driven and the problem displayed 5 out of 10 times. My car was there for almost 3 months and only drove 12 miles.
I took my car to South Shore Hyundai sometime in May 2023 to find it has internal transmission failure at 107,500 miles and a new transmission would cost $6,200 and change. This transmission issue has been gradually getting worse since around 87,000 miles when I did a computer reset to attempt to resolve it. The issue didn’t show up on a computer and it wasn’t an everyday issue at 87K but now it’s an everyday issue and concern while driving. I also believe I had the transmission examined at around 97K by allowing Advantage Hyundai Service in Hicksville NY to test drive the car for over a day and they found nothing. I was hoping to fix the transmission under the 100K mile powertrain warranty promised to me by my salesman but not executed on paper as I was an inexperienced buyer and was taken advantage of. There are multiple problem points with this vehicle that become apparent far earlier than they should including but not limited to 1: Starter Motor complete failure at 70k miles (affects every single 3.8 2015-2017 genesis sedan) 2: Sunroof front panel seal degradation 3: Shuddering driveshaft early into new ownership (also afflicts most of these vehicles) 4: BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER SUDDEN COMPLETE FAILURE 5: Oil Pressure sensor improper calibration All of these issues have been checked by multiple service centers at Hyundai/Genesis dealers, all of them confirming reluctantly that these issues affect all genesis models similar to mine. The braking issue is the worst, happens suddenly and at a random point in time, and costs thousands to fix. Got oil changed at Genesis dealership at 79K miles. Within a day, Low Oil Pressure light began to turn on and off sporadically. Usually showing up when idling and turning off while accelerating. Took car back to dealership and they identified a faulty oil switch (which appears to require a significant amount of labor to access/replace). This has already been recalled in Korea as it has been happening to many vehicles around the 60-70K mile mark and it is a major safety issue (people driving with a faulty sensor may get complacent on urgency if the warning light). I sincerely hope Hyundai/Genesis USA issues a recall for the faulty oil pressure switch issue and this most definitely should be covered under the 100K miles Powertrain warranty.
Transmission at low speeds going into the 1st gear has a hard pull. Rmps jumps from 2to4 and back down until it reaches 2nd gear and it doing it again. After that it's smooth. Only way to avoid this is drive fast. Other genesis owner has the same issues. They say to change the Transmission fluid but it will eventually do it again. It makes alot of people that drive my car really scared.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT UP TO THE NEXT GEAR AND AND STARTED ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT BUT FAILING EVERY TIME AS IT PASSED 2000 RPMS. INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, AFTER AN EXTENDED TIME OF VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS THE BRAKES HAD TO BE APPLIED IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH AN INCOMING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LATER FAILED COMPLETELY AND ALL POWER FROM THE ENGINE WAS LOST AND STARTED RAPIDLY DECELERATING THEN FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. INSTRUMENT AND ELECTRIC POWER WAS STILL ON BUT THERE WAS NO POWER FROM THE ENGINE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, THEN IT FINALLY HAD LIMITED POWER TO 45MPH
SITTING FROM IDLE,GIVING IT GAS THE CAR BOGS DOWN,HESTIATES BEFORE TAKING OFF.WHEN IT DOES MOVE IT'S SUDDEN AND SURPRISES YOU MY THE MOVEMENT
VEHICLE WILL SHIFT HARSHLY/JERK AT LOW SPEEDS (MOST COMMON AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AS WELL AS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC). VEHICLE TAKES LONGER TO CHANGE GEARS (RPMS HANG THEN DROP). DOWN-SHIFTING SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE AS WELL; DELAYED DOWN-SHIFT AS THE VEHICLE IS COMING TO A STOP . BEHAVIOR STARTED AROUND 75,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION ALSO ACTS AS IF IT IS SLIPPING AND THEN SUDDENLY ENGAGES, JUST AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL MOMENTARILY AND THEN DROPPED INTO GEAR. I WOULD CHARACTERIZE THIS UNPREDICTABLE LURCHING BEHAVIOR (A RESULT OF THE HARSH UP- AND DOWN-SHIFTS) AS A SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY REVERSED AND THE VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS INSTEAD OF FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO NAPLETON HYUNDAI GLENVIEW (LOCATED AT 1620 WAUKEGAN RD, GLENVIEW, IL 60025, (847) 729-8900) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE LOCATED. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15620163. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE SHIFTER FAILED TO MOVE OUT OF GEAR. ALSO, WHEN SWITCHING GEARS, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V097000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN, EXTERIOR LIGHTING), BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 11669773. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHERS. DRIVING AT A MEDIUM SPEED & ALL OF A SUDDEN THE RPM'S RACE UP & WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS IN IT BANGS VIOLENTLY LIKE EITHER SOMEONE HIT YOU OR YOU HIT A REALLY DEEP POTHOLE. WHENEVER I TAKE IT IN FOR MAINTENANCE I ASK THEM IF THEY'VE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE & IT'S ALWAYS NO. AND SINCE WE CAN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE ON THE FLY THERE'S NOTHING TO LOOK AT. IF HYUNDAI DOESN'T COME UP WITH AN ANSWER SOON I'M GOING TO DUMP IT, IT'S POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN IT LEAPS FORWARD.
ON JUNE 2, 2017, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY VEHICLE IN A PARKING STALL AT A MINIMUM SPEED OF 5-8 MPH. SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE REVVED UP, INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED AND RADIO CHANGED STATIONS. WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE THE CAR, THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AND I SUBSEQUENTLY HIT A WALL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN THE EALER CAME TO GET THE CAR, THE INDIVIDUAL PICKING UP THE CAR INDICATED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BREAKING MECHANISM. HOWEVER, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SAYS NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR BUT WON'T PROVIDE THE DETAILS OF THE REPORT.
WHILE GRADUALLY ACCELERATING FROM 20 THROUGH 40 MILES AN HOUR, THE ENGINE WILL REV TO APPROXIMATELY 6000 RPM. DURING THAT HI REV, THE CAR WILL NOT INCREASE IN SPEED (LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL) THEN AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS, THERE IS A LOUD BANG NOISE IN THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD AND RAPIDLY ACCELERATES. IT FEELS AS IF I WERE HIT IN THE BACK BY ANOTHER CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE 1 1/2 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. SINCE IT IS A VERY INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH I'VE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TWICE, THEY'VE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANY DEFECT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY DEFECT. I THINK, LIKELY SECONDARY TO SOME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE DEALER AND FACTORY SAY THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. UNLESS THEY HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT EVEN IF...
THIS IS AN ONGOING SAFETY ISSUE THAT I'VE TRIED TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS. FROM A STOP OR SLOW IDLE, THE ENGINE EXHIBITS ACCELERATION HESITATION. THIS HESITATION LASTS UP TO 2 SECONDS AND WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC HAS NEARLY RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS NUMEROUS TIMES. I BELIEVE A HYUNDAI WHISTLE-BLOWER CAME FORWARD RECENTLY TO EXPOSE THIS ONGOING ISSUE BUT HYUNDAI HAS YET TO ADDRESS IT.
I WAS DRIVING AND CAR SHUT OFF ENGINE ITSELF AND GET UNRESPONSIVE IN TRAFFIC. I PUSH BRAKE AND PUT CAR IN PARKING THEN I PUSH START BOTTOM AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THE CAR IS JUST 11264. I WANT TO KNOW IF HYUNDAI IS GOING TO RECALL THIS CAR BECAUSE A FRIEND OF MINE HAVE SAME CAR AND HAPPEN SAME THING.
WHILE IN PARK MY CAR SHIFTS IN REVERSE, THE GEAR DOES NOT VISIBLY GO IN THE REVERSE POSITION BUT THE CAR STARTS ROLLING IN REVERSE. YOU CAN FEEL THIS HAPPEN. ALSO WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT I FELT THE CAR JERK I HAD MY FOOT ON BREAK. ALSO CAN SMELL MOISTURE EVEN WHEN WINDOWS ARE CLOSED.
THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE IN MOTION AT RATE OF 25MPH AT NIGHTTIME, THE VEHICLE TURNED BACK ON A SECOND LATER AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAUSE OF THE SHUT DOWN IS UNKNOWN AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD I NOT BEEN ON AN EMPTY ROAD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OFF, I HAD NO CONTROL OVER POWER STEERING OR ACCELERATING, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE WITH THE BOTH THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS OFF.
