2021 HONDA PASSPORT Unknown Or Other Problems

To preface: All of these issues only occur when the engine idle feature is on. I have not experienced any of these problems when the feature is off. Question #1: When I release the brake with the engine idle on, the vehicle will sometimes completely shut off. When this happens, the steering wheel and brakes lock up, and I am unable to restart the vehicle for at least 60 seconds. Question #2: On one occasion, my wife, our 8-month-old child, and I were stuck at a green light for about 60 seconds while unable to restart the vehicle. Cars were passing by at over 50 mph, and we were relying on other drivers to notice us in time. This situation has happened multiple times and poses a serious safety risk to both us and others on the road. Question #3: I have not taken the vehicle in for service because...

my vehicle shut off during idle for energy compensation. It failed to restart and allow the vehicle to be in drive causing the car to stall out and not turn back on.

2021 car manufactured. 10/2022 car purchased used/certified from Honda dealer. 12/10/2023 Car would not start. All lights not working. Called roadside assistance. While waiting, approximately 30 minutes later, tried starting the vehicle and it started. 12/11/2023 Took the car to the dealership, still under warranty, dealership replaced the battery 5/6/2025 car would not start. Waited approximately 10 minutes, tried starting the vehicle and it started. Dashlights were working, batter light did not come on. 5/6/2025 Took car to the dealership, battery not under warranty. was told they would replace the battery for $400-$500 or I could have a diagnosis performed for $150. I declined both because it has only been 1 year and 5 months since the battery had been replaced. I feel like its another issue and it should be looked into for free. The emergency collision system constantly actives when there is no need for it to activate. It’s more of a safety hazard. I have just under 40 years of driving experience, former mechanic, and police officer for over 20 years. My professional opinion is, Honda needs to correct this problem. Thanks.

I purchased my vehicle in August 2023 (used). Phone calls (both through using CarPlay and with the phone unplugged and with genuine cables) sound terrible on the part of the recipient. We replaced the FAKRA cables and harness late last year and just replaced the microphone (and I got charged a diagnosis fee). The issue is continuing. It's gotten so bad that I have to use my AirPods to make any calls for my recipient to hear anything I'm saying (which is illegal in my state and should not be a requirement in a car that is less than 3 years old). I've dug in to forums and this is a common issue for the EX-L trim level in the 2021 model. Additionally, this can impact the backup camera and other lane keeping assist issues. I have factory reset it multiple times and it's still having similar issues.

When the passport is in cruise control I have been driving up a very steep mountain and have had the car slam on brakes with no indication to the cars behind me or me intially causing everyone to come to a halt going up a mountain with a 9% incline. I realize you can adjust the distance but it still gives no warning and it is not as if you are tailo the car in front. I turn in my subdivision daily and if I let off the gas which I have to I the neighborhood and not have to break at five or ten mph something underneath feels as if it is catching like a bike break too close it scrubs. Forward Collision Warning (FCW): At random intervals, the FCW will give a false positive warning of an imminent collision with a car approaching from the opposite direction. This has occurred at various times over the past 2+ years. Comments to this effect to the Honda service representatives have indicated that this anomaly has been reported previously. They have not provided a fix or software update to correct this issue. The event is a safety issue because of the distraction from focusing on the road ahead. Although the automatic braking system has not been employed, the driver may in response to the false warning apply the brakes and cause an accident inadvertently.

When using the audio system (Apple Airplay, Bluetooth, Sirius Navigation, or FM Radio), the speakers or radio will at some point start to crackle and make noises similar to static noise, like wires sparking. which causes the music to cut out and shut off completely. Our safety is at risk because the noise is very distracting, it is very annoying, it makes me nervous and angry because it becomes unbearable. I have to stop and turn off the car, turn it back on because I can't use music or browser or anything. I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they told me that it was a factory defect due to poorly installed cables. That creak is now constant that the car is barely drivable in those conditions. I brought my 2021 Honda Passport brand new in May 2021. It started having a safety defect issue in July 15, 2022, i placed the vehicle in reverse and proceeded to back out and the vehicle switched to neutral as i was backing out. Then a dash indicator displayed that read stop driving when safe transmission problem, see manual.
