The passenger side door of my 2008 Honda Odyssey fell off when attempting to close it and nearly fell onto my child. The automatic sliding door was closing and around halfway closed it fell off of the track and started opening back up unprompted, thus damaging the rear right quarter panel as well. This is a major safety issue as it nearly crushed my [XXX] daughter, but thankfully was caught in time. A man parked near us in the parking lot helped us pick the door back up and said the same thing happened to him, also in a 2008 Honda Odyssey! My doors wasn't latching or shutting all the way. The power doors and windows wouldn't work sometimes. Then the back sliding door fell off. Engaged the automatic door and damaged the side of the van. I seen there were recalls but none for my Vin I don't know what to do.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when opening the rear driving sliding door, the door detached. The door ended up falling to the ground onto the contact's foot causing permanent injury. Medical attention was needed. The dealer was contacted who stated they were no recall on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated they noticed that the door was attached by two small arms on the front end of the door (none on the rear end of the door) and a wheel with the track. There was nothing else there to hold the door. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
VAN SIDE SLIDING DOORS HAVE REAR LOCKING LATCH ACUATOR THAT FAILS. UNDER POWER CLOSE, THE REAR OF THE DOOR WILL PULL IN, LATCH, THEN UNLATCH AND RELEASE THE REAR OF THE DOOR. WITH POWER TO DOORS OFF (FUSE #13 REMOVED) THE DOOR REAR LATCH WILL NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. THE DOOR WITH A FAILED REAR LATCH WILL ALLOW THE DOOR TO SLIDE OPEN COMPLETELY ON ACCELERATION, SLAM FORWARD BUT NOT LATCH ON BRAKING, AND WILL ALSO SLIDE OPEN AROUND A CORNER. THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE I HAD 2 CHILDREN IN THE CENTER SEAT, AT THE SLIDING DOOR OPENINGS. DEALER WANTS $511 PLUS TAX, AND THERE IS A REBUILD SERVICE FOR THE REAR LATCH ON EBAY FOR AROUND $90, PROVING IT IS A CHRONIC, WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. AS A SIDE NOTE, IF THE 7.5 AMP FUSE IS LEFT INSTALLED IN SLOT 13 FOR SLIDING DOOR POWER, THE BATTERY WILL DISCHARGE...
MY CAR WAS STATIONARY, AND SOMEONE HIT IT ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND SPED OFF. THEY BACKED INTO ME HARD THOUGH AND MESSED UP THE BACK DRIVER SIDE DOOR OFF WON'T OPEN
STARTED 2019 PEEL OFF THE PAINT BODY BETWEEN MOONROOF AND WINDSHIELD. AREA IS BIGGER, BIGGER...
SLIDING DOOR ON DRIVERS SIDE STARTED TO BECOME HARD TO OPEN WITHOUT RESISTANCE. EVENTUALLY DIDN'T OPEN MORE THAN HALF WAY. IT BECAME SO HARD TO CLOSE THAT IT NEEDED TO BE PUSHED AFTER THE INITIAL CLOSING. BEFORE IT WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIRS THE DOOR COMPLETELY FELL OF THE TRACK ALONG THE SIDE AND TOP OF THE DOOR TRACK. IT WAS HANGING ON BY THE BOTTOM TRACK ALONE. IT APPEARS THE ROLLERS FOR THE TRACK HAVE BROKEN COMPLETELY AND ARE NO LONGER ATTACHED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS IN THE RAIN, WATER LEAKED THROUGH THE ROOF AND DRIPPED ONTO THE A-POST, FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG, AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO SHUT DOWN, AND THE POWER DOORS AND WINDOWS DID NOT WORK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 131,000.
FOR SOME REASON MY PARTICULAR VAN IS NOT INCLUDED IN AT LEAST 2 RECALLS WHERE OTHER SAME YEAR ODYSSEYS ARE INCLUDED. THESE ALL HAVE THE SAME ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND FUEL SYSTEM. MY VAN WAS DIAGNOSED BY A MECHANIC AS HAVING A FUEL PUMP MODULE LEAK, WHICH IS RECALLED FOR SOME 2008 ODUSSSEYS, BUT CURIOUSLY NOT FOR MINE. THE SAME SITUATION EXISTS FOR THE TAILGATE STAY GAS LEAKAGE, AGAIN, ALSO RECALLED ON SOME 2008 ODYSSEYS BUT NOT ALL.
THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, WHEN OPENED, BECAME DETACHED FROM THE RAILS BOTH TOP & BOTTOM FALLING COMPLETELY OFF, HANGING ONLY BY THE CABLE. BADLY SCRAPPING THE SIDE OF THE VAN THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE DOOR. APPARENTLY HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS DESIGN DEFECT FOR MANY YEARS, BUT UNLIKE TOYOTA WHO HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, HONDA HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. ASIDE FROM THE OBVIOUS MALFUNCTIONING OF THE DOOR THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL INJURIES TO A SMALL CHILD. THE OPEN BUTTON ON THE DASHBOARD PANEL WAS HIT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY(NOT RUNNING). THE DOOR MADE A GRINDING SOUND, OPENED, FELL OFF IT'S TRACKS AND CONTINUED TO OPEN SCRAPING ALL THE WAY DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VAN AND HANGING BY ONLY THE CABLE WHEN IT STOPPED. FROM LOOKING ON THE INTERNET & FROM TALKING TO A HONDA...
WHILE STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT, WHILE OPENING THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR THE ENTIRE DOOR JUMPED OUT OF THE CHANNEL, ALMOST FALLING ON TOP OF MYSELF AND OTHERS AND DAMAGING THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND RENDERING THE DOOR USELESS. THE BEARINGS FOR THE DOOR APPEAR TO BE FACTORY ORIGINALS AND ARE MADE OF A CHEAP PLASTIC THAT HAS BROKEN. THIS APPEARS TO BE DANGEROUS AND COMMON FOR ODYSSEES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR EVER HAVE A DOOR JUMP OUT OF A TRACK LIKE THIS AND I HAVE HAD ASTRO VANS SINCE THE 1980S, AND STILL CURRENTLY OWN A 2002 THAT HAS NEVER HAD SUCH AN ISSUE. SLIDING DOORS SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SPRING OUT OF TRACKS THIS WAY OR USE SUCH EASILY BROKEN, UNRELIABLE PARTS.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE MANUAL REAR TAILGATE GAS-CHARGED LIFT STRUTS/STAYS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE REAR TAILGATE TO FALL ON THE OCCUPANT WITH SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT AND VELOCITY, CAUSING MINOR HEAD INJURIES. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED ROUGHLY 2 WEEKS PRIOR AND NO SIGNS OF IMMINENT FAILURE WERE DETECTED. NO SAFETY MECHANISM EXISTS TO PREVENT THE TAILGATE FROM FALLING IN THE EVENT OF LIFT SUPPORT FAILURE.
PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR JUMPED TRACK AND BROKE OFF DURING NORMAL OPERATIONS. VEHICLE WAS PARKED, AND PASSENGERS HAD EXITED.
THE PAINT ON THE HOOD AND ROOF OF THIS VEHICLE IS PEELING OFF IN DROVES. LARGE AREAS OF VEHICLE ARE DOWN TO BARE METAL ON BOTH ROOF AND HOOD OF VEHICLE. HONDA SHOULD REPAINT THESE VEHICLES AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER. PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS.

THEY WERE WORKING PERFECT THE TIME BEFORE WITH NOW SIGNS OF ANY LEAKING OR WEAKNESS AND THE VERY NEXT TIME THEY FAILED CAUSING THE REAR DOOR TO SLAM DOWN IN AN UNCONTROLLED MANNER. I CHECKED THE VIN FOR THE RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V062000 NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE11034 DATE FEB 16, 2012 STRUCTURE: BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE: HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS BUT STATE MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT I FIND IT STRANGE THAT THE FAILURE ACTED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE RECALL. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
MY DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR FELL OFF. IT WAS ON ONE MINUTE AND THEN THE NEXT IT COMPLETELY FELL OFF. WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT AND I WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR. I PULLED ON IT AND IT JUST POPPED RIGHT OFF. AS A RESULT IT SCRATCHED UP THE SIDE OF MY CAR VERY BADLY.
I HAD JUST TAKEN MY CHILDREN TO A WATER PARK. UPON RETURNING TO MY VEHICLE AT THE PARK'S CLOSING, I OPENED THE DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WITH NO PROBLEM. WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE IT, IT WOULD NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY, AND WHEN I GAVE IT ANOTHER HARD PULL, IT CAME COMPLETELY OFF. THE CENTER SIDE ROLLER HAD COME COMPLETELY OFF TRACK. I WAS ABLE TO HOLD THE DOOR UP WITH SOME DIFFICULTY, BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET THE SIDE ROLLER BACK IN TRACK. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE SIDE ROLLER APPARATUS FROM THE DOOR, GET THE UPPER ROLLER SOMEWHAT BACK ON TRACK, AND GET THE DOOR CLOSED. OTHERWISE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. AS HEAVY AS THAT DOOR WAS, IT COULD HAVE REALLY HURT MY CHILD IF IT HAD FALLEN INWARD ON HER, AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT IT DID NOT HURT ME. VEHICLE WAS OBVIOUSLY...
THE PAINT HAS BEEN PEELING AND FLAKING FOR YEARS NOW AND IT GOT WORSE NOW. THE CLEAR COAT IS NO LONGER THERE. THERE'S A RECALL FOR THE BLUE COLOR, BUT NOT THE OTHERS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THERE. PAINT IS PAINT. COLOR IS DIFFERENT ONLY WHEN THE COLOR PIGMENT IS ADDED. IS THERE A RECALL FOR BLUE, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL OTHERS. I BELIEVE THE COLOR (WHITE) OF MY VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE PERIOD AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL FOR IT. THANKS.
AFTER DRIVING HOME IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM FOUND LARGE CHUNKS OF PAINT MISSING FROM THE HOOD AND ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK TO A PAINT SHOP WHO SAID IT IS PAINT FAILURE. CAN SEE PAINT BUBBLING UP NEXT TO THE PEELED AREAS.
THE BACK HATCH DOOR WON'T STAY OPEN HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FAILED AND GATE FELL ON HEAD AND SHOULDERS HARD
WIFE'S VAN FACTORY PAINT IS PEELING OFF IN LARGE CHUNKS. DEALERSHIP BLOWS IT OFF SAYING NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THAT'S RIDICULOUS! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A THING.
THE POWER LIFT GATE STRUTS (?) STOPPED WORKING CAUSING THE LIFT GATE TO COLLAPSE ON MY HEAD CAUSING A SMALL CUT. AFTER THEY STOPPED WORKING, THE LIFT GATE WOULD NOT POWER LIFT OR STAY OPEN UNLESS YOU MANUALLY HELD IT OPEN. MY 2005 ODYSSEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WAS FIXED WITH A RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FRONT CYLINDER HEAD, THE HEAD GASKET, WATER PUMP, AND SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIFT GATE ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS OPENED, BUT FAILED TO REMAIN OPEN. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE REASON THE RECALL COME TO OUR ATTENTION IN THE FIRST PLACE IS BECAUSE THE POWER LIFT GATE ON OUR VEHICLE HAS FAILED AND HAS INJURED AN EMPLOYEE. UPON OUR OWN RESEARCH, WE ENTERED OUR VIN NUMBER INTO YOUR DATABASE TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALL NOTIFICATIONS, AND THE WEBSITE STATED OUR VIN NUMBER WAS INVALID. THE LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILED SUDDENLY AND NO LONGER SUPPORT THE HEAVY DOOR. THERE WAS NO GRADUAL DETERIORATION. OURS IS A MANUAL VERSION - NOT POWERED AND FOR SOME REASON ISN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL 12V062000, EVEN THOUGH IT USES THE SAME PART THAT WAS DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE IN THAT INVESTIGATION - NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE11034. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT FAILED AT UNACCEPTABLE RATE AND THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM MANUAL LIFTGATES IS HIGHER THAN THOSE OF THE POWERED LIFTGATES. THIS IS AT LEAST AS DANGEROUS AS A POWERED LIFTGATE SITUATION, ESPECIALLY FOR MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN. THE REAR TAILGATE STRUT FAILED ON MY ODYSSEY EX- IMPORTANT TO DIFFERENTIATE FROM THE EX-L, WHICH WAS AFFECTED BY A RECALL FOR THE SAME THING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN #12V062000). THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THE EX NOR LX MODELS. PROBLEM IS THE EX-L, EX & LX MODELS SHARE THE SAME STRUT PART #74820-SHJ-A21, PRICE $63.91/EACH. THE PARTS INFORMATION IS RIGHT OFF HONDA'S OWN WEBSITE. THE RECALL MAKES NO MENTION OF FAILURES TO ANY MOTORS, GENERATORS OR POWER LOCKS. THE ONLY REFERENCE IS TO THE STRUT ITSELF. WE OWN THE ODYSSEY EX-L WITH A MANUAL TAILGATE. THE TALIGATE HAS STOPPED OPENING TO ITS MAXIMUM HEIGHT. THE SHORTENED DISTANCE IS NOT OBVIOUS UNTIL YOU PROCEED UNDER THE DOOR AND HIT YOUR HEAD ON THE REAR TAILGATE. I'M PROBABLY LIKE MOST ODYSSEY OWNERS--MORE FOCUSED ON HER CHILDREN IN A PARKING LOT THAN THE HEIGHT OF MY TAILGATE--BUT THE HEADACHE THAT FOLLOWED HITTING MY HEAD ON THE TAILGATE THIS MORNING MADE ME FILE THIS COMPLAINT. THE DOOR STILL OPENS SMOOTHLY BUT UNLESS YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION AND PUSH THE TAILGATE UP A FEW MORE INCHES AFTER THE LIFTGATE SUPPORTS HAVE STOPPED, THE DOOR IS TOO LOW AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
