CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH ERROR CODE P0740 INDICATING TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 99 HONDA ODYSSEY. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA SERVICE PERSON, HONDA WON'T PAY ANY REPAIR OR REPLACE COST BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REPORTED ON 1999 - 2002 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS INCLUDING A RECALL AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN CALIFORNIA AGAINST HONDA FOR 1999-2001 ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS THAT SHOWED THE SAME MALFUNCTION CODE. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE THE CAR SERVICED REGULARLY AT THE DEALER. THE CAR WAS AT VERY LOW MILEAGE WITHOUT SHOWING THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 2006. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD PERFORM A "GOODWILL" REPAIR ON MY TRANSMISSION AND PICKUP MOST COST INSTEAD FOR ME TO PICKUP THE $5000 EXPENSE FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR OR THE OPTION OF GETTING A NEW CAR.. *KB

I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT HONESTLY THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME AND MY FAMILY AS WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO PULL OUT INTO A BUSY STREET. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT REAR ENDED OR WORSE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VAN INTO THE MOST IMMEDIATE PARKING LOT. WHEN I SEARCHED IN THE INTERNET THERE ARE LOT MANY COMPLAINS ON HONDA ODYSSEY ABOUT THE SIMILAR ISSUES AND HONDA HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SO FAR. WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST TO CONSIDER THIS CASE AND MAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS AT THE EARLIEST BEFORE WE LOOSE MORE LIVES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY EX WITH 190,000 MILES. I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS CAR VERY WELL. TO MY SURPRISE, I JUST FOUND OUT ON 03/05/2011 THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $1,500 (USED) OR $3,000 NEW. THE ENGINE LIGHTS HAD BEEN ON FOR A WHILE BUT HONDA DID NOT ACKNOWLEGDE NOTHING WRONG. TOO MANY HONDA ODYSSEY'S OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS NO DOUBT A DEFECT WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. I REQUEST A FULL INVESTIGATION ON THIS MATTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING AND ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP. THEN, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS EXCEPT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE AND PCS WARNING LIGHTS STOPPED ILLUMINATING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (RECALL INFORMATION NOT AVAILABLE) BUT THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WAS ONLY BEING OFFERED TO THOSE VEHICLE OWNERS WHO HAD LESS THAN 100,000 MILES OR WHOSE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN SEVEN YEARS OLD. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,036. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,002.
TRANSMISSION RECALLED IN 05 FOR DEFECT, WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME WITH LOCAL DEALER. JULY 29, 2008 TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE TRAVELING FAR FROM HOME AND WAS REPLACED AT MY COST OF $5,000 AS I WENT 6 MONTHS PAST WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AGAIN AND HAS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST BECAUSE I PUT 4,000 MILES OVER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA FOR HELP AND THEY WILL NOT ASSIST ME. THE TRANSMISSION HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED FOR THE ORIGINAL DEFECT WITH THE RECALL IN 05, IF IT HAD, I CERTAINLY WOULD NOT BE TOLD BY HONDA THAT IT NEEDS IT'S 4TH TRANSMISSION. (3 IN 5 YEARS TIME). *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 114,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH HE APPLIED LIGHT PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND VARIOUS UNKNOWN LIGHTS BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED IT BEGAN OPERATING NORMALLY BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 114,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED LESS THAN ONE YEAR PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY WHO WONT PASS THE EMISSIONS TEST. I AM SECOND OWNER TO THIS VEHICLE AND GOT IT WITH 62,000 MILES ON IT AND ONLY HAVE USED IT FOR ONLY OVER 33,000 MILES ONLY. WENT TO A MECHANIC AND SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS THE PROBLEM. ITS NO REASON FOR ONLY 93,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE TO BE GOING BAD. MADE A CALL TO AMERICAN HONDA AND GOT DENIED FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SAID ITS OVER THE WARRANTY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND I KNEW THAT THEY KNEW THAT THEIR VEHICLE HAS DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHO WOULD BUY A CAR LESS THAN A 100,000 MILE THEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO BAD? AFTER CALLING JESSICA IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT. AND REQUESTING A GOODWILL EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY (SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES) I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR US (SINCE THE TIME HAD EXPIRED) EVEN THOUGH THROUGH THEIR OWN WEBSITE THEY CLEARLY HAVE A DEFECT WITH THE TRANSMISSION DURING THIS TIME PARAMETER. *TR
1999 HONDA ODYSSEY - DRIVING ON THE EXPRESS WAY WITH THE FAMILY IN THE CAR WHEN THE DASH LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT COME ON. VAN WOULD NOT SHIFT OR KEEP SPEED. WE WERE ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THE DECREASING SPEED. THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH TRANSMISSION FOR THIS VAN. HONDA DID COVER THE FIRST THREE BUT HAS ADAMANTLY STATED THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS ONE. 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SLIDING DOORS. I HAD A 3RD PARTY WARRANTY WHICH COVERED THE REPAIR OF THIS TRANSMISSION AND NOW ABOUT A YEAR LATER AND ONLY 12000 MILES MY VEHICLES TRANSMISSION IS DEAD AGAIN. TCS/CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. PREVIOUS OWNER CONFIRMS THAT TCS/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TURNED ON BEFORE. IN BOTH CASES, THE REPAIR SHOP RESET THE LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. ON THE MOST RECENT SHOP VISIT, THE LIGHTS WERE RESET AND THE REPAIRMAN COMMENTED ON A SLIGHT LATE SHIFT BETWEEN 1 AND 2. I HADN'T NOTICED ANYTHING UP UNTIL THIS POINT, SO I DECIDED TO WAIT AND WATCH FOR THE SHIFT ISSUE. 6 MONTHS LATER, THE LATE SHIFT PROBLEM HAS GROWN. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO REV TOO HIGH AND SHUDDER WHEN THE SHIFT IS FINALLY ACCOMPLISHED. IT IS SOMETIMES POSSIBLE TO APPLY THE GAS PEDAL IN A VERY SPECIFIC MANNER TO AVOID THE STUTTER. I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY LX MINIVAN WITH 54K MILES. THE TRANSMISSION SLAMS INTO GEAR. I BROUGHT IT TO HEMPSTEAD HONDA AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND BRAKE AND REACCELERATE, THE CAR JERKS FORWARD ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR

WE BOUGHT A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY FROM CARMAX AND THE FIRST WEEK THAT WE GOT THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE TOOK IT TO CARMAX. GRADUALLY GOT WORSE AND WORSE, UNTIL RECENTLY (137K MILES) THE SHUDDERING WAS SO BAD, WE HAD TO FINALLY BITE THE BULLET AND GET THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED BY HONDA FOR A WHOPPING $3700 ($300 OF THAT IS 2 BROKEN ENGINE MOUNTS). FOR A $32,000 VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST A MINIMUM OF 150K MILES. I TAKE METICULOUS CARE OF MY VEHICLES--IMAGINE IF I HAD NEGLECTED IT! THIS IS IN CONCERN TO A 1999 HONDA ODSSYEY MINIVAN. HONDA HAS VOLUNTARILY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A TRANSMISSION DEFECT PROBLEM FOR 7YRS/100K MILES. MY TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO DEGRADE VERY SLOWLY OVER THE NEXT 20K MILES AND THE DEALER NOW TOLD ME THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE RETURNED AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 120K. I BELIEVED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BUILT AT THAT TIME NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS THE DEALER NOW SAID IT HAS DETERIOATED TO SUCH A STATE THAT IT MAY BECOME INOPERABLE WHILE DRIVING. *NM
BEGINNING IN 2000, WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MAJOR EQUIPMENT FAILURES. FIRST, THE EGR VALVE MALFUNCTIONED; IT WAS EVENTUALLY REPAIRED AT HONDA'S EXPENSE. NEXT, ONE OF THE MOTORS FOR THE SIDE POWER DOORS FAILED. THAT COST APPROXIMATELY $800 TO REPAIR. THEN, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, AND HONDA EVENTUALLY COVERED THE FULL COSTS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
