The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic. The contact stated that upon checking the fluids in the vehicle, she noticed that coolant had leaked onto the ground. Upon inspecting under the hood of the vehicle, the contact then noticed that coolant was located at the bottom of the engine and a small crack in the coolant reservoir. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 208,000.

THE ENGINE BLOCK LEAKS COOLANT, THE MOTOR OVERHEATS TO A DEGREE THAT IS AUDIBLE, YOU CAN HEAR THE STEAM ESCAPING FROM THE COOLANT CONTAINER, THE HEAT DAMAGES THE THERMOSTAT AND BURNS THE GASKETS AND IT BECOMES A SELF-DESTRUCTING CYCLE BECAUSE THE MOTOR IS INCAPABLE OF COOLING ITSELF WITHOUT THE THERMOSTAT AND, THE COOLANT. IN SOME CASES THE CRACK IN THE BLOCK THAT LEAKS IS APPARENT; IN MY CASE THE CRACK IS NOT VISIBLE OR EASY TO SEE AND THE DEALERS TECHNICIAN IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE RECALL THAT HONDA HAS ALREADY IN PLACE FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. THE SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER BOLT HAS BROKEN 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 30,000 MILES. THIS REQUIRES REMOVING THE BROKEN BOLT AND REPLACING THE BOLT, TENSIONER ASSEMBLY, SERPENTINE BELT, WATER PUMP AND/OR PULLEY EACH TIME. HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IN FEBRUARY 2009, I RECEIVED A "PRODUCT UPDATE: REROUTING THE DRIVE BELT" WHICH ALSO RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE BOLT. AS I TURNED INTO THE PARKING SPACE I APPLIED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES BECAME SOFT AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINES RPMS INCREASED AND BEGAN JUMPING BETWEEN 3000 RPMS TO 4000 RPMS. ENOUGH OF THE BOLT WAS EXPOSED TO GRIP IT AND REMOVE IT FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE USED INCLUDING NEW TENSIONER ASSEMBLY, TENSIONER BOLT AND BELT. LOCAL HONDA DEALER WOULD NOT ASSIST. NOT WARRANTY, NO DEFECT, NO OFFER TO ASSIST. MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. YESTERDAY I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT GOING DOWNHILL AT ABOUT 40 MPH. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ENGINE ACCELERATED WITH THE RPMS JUMPING TO 3,000. I APPLIED FULL BRAKES AND THE CAR KEPT MOVING TOWARDS THE INTERSECTION. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN I SMELLED RUBBER BURNING AND THEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. OUR MECHANIC HAS DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT OTHER OWNERS OF 2006 HONDA CIVICS ARE ALSO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO REPLACE THIS BOLT. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, BOTH TIMES WERE AFTER THE AUGUST 2010 IMA RECALL BY HONDA. HONDA DEALER SAID THAT THERE IS NO SOLUTION FROM HONDA EVER SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN URGE HONDA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH ITS MANY STEEP HILLS AND IMPATIENT DRIVERS.

SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN THE IMA BATTERY UPGRADE THE CAR BATTERY COMPLETELY DISCHARGES RANDOMLY SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. WHEN THE BATTERY DISCHARGES THE CAR LOOSES A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ITS ACCELERATION. I HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS SINCE THIS UPGRADE WHERE I HAVE NEARLY HAD ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. A PRIVATE MECHANIC INSTALLED HELI-COL IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE THREADS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK; HOWEVER, THE BOLT SLIPPED AGAIN. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SINCE THE HELI-COL WAS INSTALLED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC IT VOIDED ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,100. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,050.

2006 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH WATER PUMP BOLTS *TGW WHEN THE MECHANIC STARTED THE VEHICLE, SPARKS WERE COMING FROM THE AREA OF THE WATER PUMP. WHEN HE CHECKED THE ENGINE AREA, IT WAS APPARENT THAT ONE OF THE THREE VISIBLE BOLTS HOLDING THE WATER PUMP IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF. THE SERPENTINE BELT ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE FAULTY WATER PUMP, HAVING DETERMINED IT HAD BEEN OUT OF ITS NORMAL SHAPE. HE FURTHER DETERMINED THAT THE TENSIONER ASSEMBLY HOLDING THE WATER PUMP IN PLACE WAS THE INCORRECT PART. IT WEIGHED 40 POUNDS, WHEN THE PROPER WEIGHT FOR THAT WATER PUMPS TENSIONER WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT 16 POUNDS. WHEN THE MECHANIC ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART, IT WAS IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL PART AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WOULD ONLY LAST 25,000-30,000 MILES UNTIL THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN. *JB UPDATED 06/08/10.*JB
THE AIR CONDITIONER ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC FAILED. SINCE I HAVE A 10-YR EXTENDED WARRANTY, I HAD MY HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM (COST $75). THEY TOLD ME THAT THE AC CONDENSER WAS DAMAGED DUE TO A ROCK/PEBBLE IMPACTING THE CONDENSER AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE PROBLEM. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE CONDENSER (COST: $782). IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DEFECT FOR THIS HONDA AND OTHERS GOING BACK TO 2003. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION IN THE FRONT GRILLE THAT WOULD PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. THE DESIGN OF THIS HONDA WELCOMES DEBRIS TO COME THROUGH THE GRILLE!
