When I was driving my 98 Honda accord lx . I notice it shuts off itself if hitting a hard bump . Then I noticed online they had folks saying that the ignition switch was beginning to be a big issue . I nearly died after picking my 2 kids up from school the car shut off in the middleof the intersection.it’s even a recall on the insurance app about the same part . Do I need to call Honda myself and I shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for this . Everything shuts off no lies no throttle until I shift in nuetral to crank vehicle up
The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. Additionally, the battery had to be recharged on several occasions in order to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. No repair was performed and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 155,000.

I HAVE REPLACED MY IGNITION SWITCH LAST YEAR AND AM HAVING THE SANE PROBLEM. I LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PART FOR MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CUTS OFF WHILE IM DRIVING OR WILL NOT TURN OVER ALL THE WAY WHEN I SWITCH IT ON. I CAN TELL WHEN THE SWITCH CATCHES. *TR

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM MY CO WORKER WHICH STATED THESE ISSUES WERE ALREADY HAPPENING FOR MONTHS, FIRSTLY THE CLUSTER CLUSTERS INSTRUMENT GAGES DO NOT WORK (REPLACED THEM AND NOTHING HAPPENS) , ONLY THE GAGE LIGHTS TURN ON. THESE INCLUDE THE GAS GAGE, RPM, SPEEDOMETER, TEMP. WHICH IS ANOTHER ISSUE, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES EVEN THOUGH YOU TRY TO BRIGHTEN THE LIGHTS WITH THE DIM KNOB THEY ARE HARDLY BRIGHTENED ITS HARD TO SEE THE CLOCK TIME OR ANY THING THAT LIGHTS UP TO HELP SEE AT NIGHT, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DONT WORK, THE HORN DOESNT WORK, CRUISE CONTROL DOESNT WORK. AS IF ALL THESE ARE TIED TOGETHER THRU THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. (CHECKED ALL FUSES AND REPLACED MOST) MY WIND SHIELD LEAKS IN THE TOP CORNERS, THE TRUNK FILLS WITH WATER EVERYONE IT RAINS DUE TO A LEAK. DEFECTS IN THE SEALING MY REAR VIEW MIRROR FELL OFF ON...
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON A MULTI LAND ROAD IN TRAFFIC THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. AFTER PULLING OVER I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART ENGINE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPT OF TURNING THE KEY ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON.

THE ENGINE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! IT IS NOT THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH IS THE SUBJECT OF A PAST RECALL. HONDA DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE AND IF YOU CHECK THE INTERNET ALL KINDS OF HONDA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I BET SOMEONE HAS ALREADY BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF IT.
THE IGNITION SWITCH IS FAULTY. THE CAR WILL RUN AND SUDDENLY CUT OUT AND HAS DIFFICULTY STARTING. MOST OTHER MODELS OF ACCORDS MANUFACTURED IN THIS TIMEFRAME WERE COVERED UNDER AN IGNITION RECALL IN 2002. I OWNED A DIFFERENT ACCORD IN 2006 THAT WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY A HONDA DEALER MY PARTICULAR MODEL IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL.
HORN PAD ON STEERING WHEEL HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. IT TAKES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO OPERATE WHEN AND IF IT DOES WORK.

I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, OR EVEN STOP THE BRAKES. EVERYTHING FAILED ON HUGE ROADS AND INTERSECTIONS WHERE MY CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE IN FRONT OF A WHOLE LANE OF TRAFFIC. ENDED UP FINDING OUT THAT THERE WAS RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH. I CALLED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF IT HAS BEEN SERVICED. IT "WAS". I REPLACED THE PART MYSELF AND NOW MY CAR HAS HAD A COUPLE GOOD TRIPS. BUT IF I WOULD OF TAKEN IT TO HONDA, THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME WHICH IS RIDICULOUS, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD OF RECALLED IT TWICE LIKE OTHER PEOPLE I READ ABOUT. *TR
ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE (02V120000) FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. HONDA SAYS THOSE COVERED BY THAT RECALL HAD A DIFFERENT IGNITION SWITCH. WELL GUESS WHAT, THEY NEED TO INCLUDE MINE TOO! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. ADDITIONALLY, THE ENGINE WOULD SPORADICALLY FAIL TO START. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
1998 HONDA ACCORD: VEHICLE LOST POWER SEVERAL TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MOTOR STOPPED, POWERS STEERING AND BRAKES LOST, GAUGE NEEDLES SPUN TO ZERO, AS IF CAR WAS SHUT OFF AT DURING NORMAL OPERATION. WE DID NOT TOUCH KEY! ALMOST GOT RUN OVER BY CAR BEHIND US. PROBLEM OCCURRED SIX MORE TIMES BEFORE WE COULD GET TO LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP. THEY CHARGED ME $186.26 TO REPLACED DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND THEY ADVISED THEY FIX A RECALL FOR SWITCH INTERLOCK WHILE CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR FOUR DAYS! WE SENT A LETTER TO HONDA,[XXX] FROM HONDA AMERICA CALIFORNIA CALLED ME TO DECLINE REIMBURSING MY COST! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
THE CAR ENGINE WOULD TURN OFF WITH OUT WARNING INTERMITTENTLY. THE PROBLEM WAS INCREASING IN FREQUENCY, SO WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING IT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY TURNED OFF ON THE INTERSTATE. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND THEN WE CALLED A TOWING COMPANY FOR FEAR IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, BUT WE WERE INFORMED BY THE HONDA DEALER THAT THIS PARTICULAR CAR HAD UNDERGONE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH IN 2002. *TR

THIS CREATES A SERIOUS ROAD HAZARD & POTENTIAL FOR CRASH & SERIOUS INJURY, AS SUDDENLY & WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN & CANNOT BE CONTROLLED WITH ANY ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING OR NORMAL BRAKING. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY, SINCE NEW, PER RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE WITH HONDA DEALERSHIPS. MY CAR UNDERWENT THE IGNITION SWITCH INTERLOCK RECALL IN 2002. BUT THIS IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND AGAIN IN 2011, THE SWITCH FAILED. MY CAR STALLED A FEW TIMES ON THE FREEWAY AND I WAS IN GREAT DANGER OF BEING IN A ACCIDENT. THE SYSTEM WAS WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, IT WOULD IMMEDIATELY CUT OFF THE ENGINE AND IF I PUT IT BACK IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART IT WOULD START FINE. HONDA KNEW ABOUT THE FAULTY SWITCH REPLACED AND NOW IS RECOMMENDING A NEW AND IMPROVED VERSION AT THE OWNERS COST. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR AT MY EXPENSE TO A NEARBY MECHANIC AND SPEND MY MONEY TO FIX THIS ISSUE INSTEAD OF HONDA FIXING THE FAULTY COMPONENT. *TR
