TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING WAS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR OVER A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MASSIVE AIR FLOW SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPARIED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATED FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,019.
THE FIRST INCIDENT MY BROTHER WAS ALONE AND DRIVING THE CAR. HE ACCELERATED AFTER STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WITHIN ABOUT 50 YARDS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 4000 RPM. HE PULLED OFF TO A TURNING LANE AND HAD TO HOLD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. FINALLY HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE ENGINE DID NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL HE PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE. SINCE THEN THE ACCELERATOR HAS TAKEN CONTROL THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AT ABOUT 40 MPH. MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON 4/18/2012, MILEAGE 36140. WE WERE RIDING HOME FROM CHURCH. MY BROTHER PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO ABOUT 45 MPH FROM A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM AGAIN. WE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND ON 3 TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DRIVABLE. *JS
HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES- DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN ENGINE STARTED REVVING VERY HIGH. WAS ABLE TO USE BRAKES TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND THEN PRESS HARD ON GAS PEDAL TO STOP THE REVVING. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS INOPERATIVE (TOOK TO SHOP, THEY REPORTED THE CABLE IS UNATTACHED). *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-40 MPH, THE THROTTLE "STUCK". I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL IN ANY OF THESE CASES. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN - REQUIRED EXTREME BRAKE PRESSURE - WHEN I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RPM WENT WELL ABOVE 3000 RPM. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE COMPLETELY NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS. IN EACH CASE WHEN I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT, ALL SEEMED TO BE NORMAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC, AND HE WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE MY EXPERIENCE. HE SAID HE SUSPECTED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND THAT A REPAIRS COULD BE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. OR HE COULD SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL. I CHOSE THE LATER. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A GAS STATION AND STARTING TO SLOW DOWN, BUT THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT THE ENGINE WAS RACING. I PUSHED DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL VERY HARD SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED THE EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION. ANOTHER TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT I ALSO PUSHED DOWN VERY HARD SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. *TR
THE THROTTLE ON MY FORD TAURUS 2005 HAS BEEN STICKING OFF AND ON FOR THE PASS YEAR. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT YESTERDAY WITH MY BABY DAUGHTER AND SHE HAD TO CUT THE IGNITION OFF TO STOP THE CAR. *JS
I OWN A 2005 FORD 500 LIMITED SEDAN. WITHIN THE PAST 6-MONTHS OR SO, I'VE EXPERIENCED SURGING OF MY ENGINE DURING IDLE; WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE; AND IN GEAR WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED. I WASN'T SURE HOW TO PROCEED OTHER THAN A FULL DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH WASN'T A POSSIBILITY AT THE TIME DUE TO COST. THIS SITUATION SOUNDS SIMILAR TO WHAT I READ IN THE NEWS ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION INTO THESE MODELS. THE SURGING WAS ENOUGH TO GET MY ATTENTION AS OUT OF THE ORDINARY AND HOPEFULLY A RECALL WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON. *JS
THE ISSUE STARTED AS A THROTTLE STICKING CLOSED. THIS REQUIRED A HARDER THAN NORMAL PUSH TO GET THE THROTTLE TO OPEN AND INCREASE ENGINE SPEED. THIS EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN AND NOT RETURNING TO IDLE. THE ON THE ROAD FIX WAS TO PUSH QUICKLY ON THE THROTTLE PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES TO GET THE THROTTLE TO RELEASE TO IDLE. THIS ALSO NECESSITATED RIDING THE BRAKES TO KEEP THE CARS SPEED UNDER CONTROL. OVER TIME THE ISSUE BECAME WORSE, WITH THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN MORE OFTEN. WHAT I FOUND WHEN INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FITTING AT THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WAS DISCONNECTED. THE FITTING WOULD SNAP BACK ONTO THE PROPER PLACE BUT WAS VERY LOOSE AND WOULD POP BACK OFF EASILY WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS ACTUATED. I USED A PLASTIC TIE-WRAP TO TIGHTEN THE LOCKING MECHANISM IN PLACE. ANOTHER ITEM THAT I FOUND WAS...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE TO 4000 AND THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. A LOCAL MECHANIC CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
NUMEROUS TIMES, WHEN THE FOOT WAS REMOVED THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE DID NOT RETURN TO IDLE BUT CONTINUED AS IF YOUR FOOT WAS STILL ON THE ACCELERATOR. WOULD HAVE TO APPLY BRAKES AND GET OFF THE ROAD. EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP IF GOING VERY FAST. I PAID $190.00' TO THE REPAIR, BUT IT STILL SEEMS TO OCCUR SPORADICALLY. *TR

ONE WEEK LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND WIRING WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

THIS HAPPENED IN A 2005 FORD TAURUS SE SEDAN WITH THE 3.0L VULCAN V6 FLEX-FUEL ENGINE. CAR WAS JUST HITTING 85,000 WHEN THE PROBLEM APPEARED. CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A SQUEALING NOISE- WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE THE BELT BEGINNING TO WEAR HEAVILY. IT WAS CHANGED, AND THE NOISE BECAME EVEN WORSE. NOW AN ADDED CLUNKING SOUND BEGAN TO MANIFEST ITSELF. IT WAS FOUND OUT TO BE THE A/C COMPRESSOR BEGINNING TO BREAK. IN FACT, A NUT OR SOMETHING HAD BECOME LOSE, WHICH WAS THE CLUNKING NOISE I HEARD. THE WHOLE COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND FILLED (SO I CAN USE THE A/C.) AND A NEW BELT HAD TO BE BOUGHT AS WELL. IF THIS COMPRESSOR WASN'T REPLACED, IT WOULD HAVE FAILED- CAUSING IT TO SEIZE, THE BELT TO BREAK, AND MY ENGINE TO QUICKLY OVERHEAT AND PROBABLY CRACK. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SIXTH SPARK PLUG WAS STRIPPED AND A PORTION OF THE SPARK PLUG FRACTURED INTO THE CORE OR THE CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 100,000.

THE TECHNICIAN KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS COMMON FOR FORD ENGINES TO START LEAKING AT THIS SPOT AROUND 60,000 MILES. THE DEALER WANTS APPROXIMATELY $700.00 TO FIX THE LEAK. ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE CAR HAPPENED LAST WINTER WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD AND THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT. A TUNE UP WAS PERFORMED AT A COST TO ME OF $416.91. I WAS TOLD THAT IF THE TUNE UP DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM THEN...
WHEN IT IS COLD (30 OR BELOW DEGREES) THE ENGINES DIES RIGHT AFTER YOU START IT. I WAS GOING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE ENGINE JUST DIED. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED SINCE DEC. 2009, MY MACHANIC CANNOT SEE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HE KEEPS REPLACING PARTS, BUT, APPARTENTLY NOT THE RIGHT ONE.
MY 2005 FORD TAURUS SEEMS TO HAVE A MYSTERIOUS PROBLEM THAT TWO DEALERSHIPS AND MY MECHANIC CANNOT RECREATE. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE ABS LIGHT AND CHECK BRAKE SIGNAL FLASHES, AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR STALLS...STOPS DEAD IN ITS TRACK. IF DOES NOT HAPPEN ON A COLD START ONLY AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING DURING THE DAY. I TOOK IT TO ONE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED ENGINE INTAKE VALUE. THAT SEEMED TO WORK FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR. ONE YEAR TO THE DAY, IT STARTS AGAIN. THE NEXT FORD DEALERSHIP HAD IT FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS AND COULD NOT RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY REPLACE THE AIR INTAKE VALVE, SPARK PLUGS AND A NEW BELT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY START AFTER 4-5 ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLS AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT AND SPEED. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, BUT THE VEHICLE CAN STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP AS WELL. ONCE THE VEHICLE STALLS, HE PLACES IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CAN STALL ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 53,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
