INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). 1995 FORD TAURUS,FAN MOTOR FROZE, FORD SAID THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE CIRCUIT BREAKER BUT NOT THE FAN WHICH IS NOW FROZE UP AGAIN DUE TO MILEAGE (142,000). I'VE REPLACED MOTOR NO LESS THAN THREE TIMES SINCE 1997 BEFORE FINDING OUT ABOUT RECALL. ALSO I'VE REPLACED A REAR MOTOR MOUNT TWO TO FOUR TIMES SINCE 1997. A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BOUGHT OR BUILT IN CERTAIN OTHER STATES HAVE RECALLS ON WHAT SOUNDS TO BE THIS SAME PROBLEM CAUSES ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TO FALL CAUSING ACCIDENT. FORD WILL NOT FIX. (AUTO DESCRIPTION) 1995 FORD TAURUS 3.0 LITER ENGINE WITH 45,000 MILES. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. (1) NO EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE. (2) TRANSMISSION NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATES #2 CLUTCH FAILURE. LONG DELAY GETTING INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE. CAR LURCHES UPON START-UP. CAR DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY FROM 2ND GEAR INTO 3RD GEAR. TRANSMISSION GENERALLY UNRELIABLE. TRANSMISSION HAS NOT COMPLETELY FAILED YET. (3) HAD DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED. RECOMMENDED REPAIR IS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $3,000. MY 1995 FORD TAURUS GL HAS WENT THROUGH 3 TRANSMISSIONS IN THE PAST 6 YEARS. THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION CAN NOT BE REBUILT. I AM TIRED OF SPENDING MONEY TO KEEP THIS CAR RUNNING WHEN THE ONLY PIECE THAT KEEPS GOING OUT IS THE DREADED AX4N TRANSMISSION USED IN THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AS THEY SHOULD. *TC THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DOME LIGHT FAILED. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. *NM
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. HOWEVER, IT IS IN NEED OF THE FORTH TRANSMISSION, AND THE CASE IS CRAKED. THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FORTH TRANSMISSION. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS AT 37,000, THE SECOND WAS 87,000, NOW AT 100,000 THOUSAND MILES THE VEHICLE NEEDS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHR INFORMATION

TRANS AXLE ERRATIC SHIFTING PROBLEM DEVELOPED ON MY 1995 TAURUS WAGON. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE NOT UPSHIFTING ON COLD ENGINE BUT WILL SHIFT HARD ON WARM ENGINE. DEALER REPLACE SMALL GEAR ON END OF SPEEDOMETER CABLE AND THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS ALSO TIED TO A WORN GEAR ON END OF CABLE IN TRANSMISSION. THIS REPAIR WOULD REQUIRE A COMPLETE TEARDOWN OF THE TRANSMISSION. HAVE DRIVEN CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH SINCE REPAIR OF SPEEDOMETER. SHIFTING PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT WITH NO PARTICULAR PATTERN. STRONGLY SUSPECT PROBLEM ALSO INVOLVES THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL IN THE CAR COMPUTER. THE TRANSMISSION PISTON WHICH CREATES HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WAS MADE OF ALUMINUM. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS MADE OF CAST IRON AND WON'T BREAK OR FATIGUE LIKE THE ALUMINUM ONE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PHENOMENA WITH LOCAL MECHANICS AND USING THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A DECADE AND...
TRANSMISSION FAILURE @ 83,000 MILES, COMMON WITH FORD TARAUS VEHICLES. FORD WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR FOR 14 DAYS, AT ANY OF THE 5 DEALERSHIPS LOCAL TO CHARLOTTE. THE REPAIRED TRANSMISSION FAILED. THEN THE FORD WARRANTIED TRANSMISSION, REPLACED 7/11/03, FAILED 400 MILES LATER (36,000 MILE WARRANTY), BECAUSE THE FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT! QUALITY OF THE OEM PRODUCT IS ACUTELY IN QUESTION, WHILE WORKMANSHIP AND SERVICE ARE HORRIBLE. INCIDENT DATE IS THE FIRST TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *AK

GENE EVANS FORD QUICKLY DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE. (THIS ALSO CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOP). THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AND THE TRANSMISSION AND CRUISE CONTROL HAVE PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY. THE PART COST $36.58. LABOR WAS $305.46. THE TOTAL BILL CAME TO $369.60. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS COST. 6

MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO REVERSE CAN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NUETRAL, OR PARK TO DRIVE CAN PUT THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START IN PARK, AS IT IS NOT REGISTERING THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. IT CAN NOT BE STARTED IN NEUTRAL ALL THE TIME EITHER, AS THE GEAR SHIFT SOMETIMES JUMPS RIGHT PAST NEUTRAL. TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE STAYS STOPPED WHEN PARKED, I'VE HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR SAFETY. THIS SLAMMING/SLIPPING CAN ALSO OCCUR AT LOW SPEED, WITHOUT A PRIOR STOP, SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING A DRIVEWAY OR TURNING A CORNER AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A YIELD SIGN. WE HAVE NOTED SEVERAL POTENTIAL TECH. SERVICE BULLETINS, WHICH MAY APPLY TO THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE DEALER WE ARE USING FOR SERVICE HAS BEEN UNCOOPERATIVE AND CHARGED US FOR REPAIRS THAT HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AS I WAS GETTING ON TO THE HIGHYWAY. IT GOT STUCK IN FIRST GEAR AND HAD TO BE TOWED. CALLED MANY SHOPS TO GET QUOTES ON REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, ALL COMPLAINING ABOUT TAURUS' BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 92 & 95 HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THE PROBLEM WAS MECHANICAL AND NOT THE FAULT OF THE OWNER. CONTACTED FORD CO. TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR IT AND THEY DENIED MY CLAIM TWICE. IF SO MANY OF THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME TRANS. PROBLEM SHOULDN'T THEY BE RECALLED? I THINK FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFECTIVE TRANS. THEY MANUFACTURED AND DISTRIBUTED.
