The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift into drive. The contact stated that once the vehicle was parked the gear shifter remained stuck in park(P). The contact manually depressed the button under the gear shifter to move the gear shifter. The check engine warning light and service reminder light were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the shifter cable bushing had detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
