NITTO DURA GRAPPLER 245/75R/17 FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEW CAUSING VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO GUARD RAILING ON INTERSTATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING ON I-75 SB NEAR MM 181 APPROXIMATELY 72 MPH. I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL. ON MARCH 6,2015 I HAD ANOTHER TIRE BLOW AND I FILED A NITTO CLAIM NUMBER 804190 (THROUGH THE TIRE DEALERSHIP). I RECEIVED FROM NITTO THE SAME TIRE IN EXCHANGE. EVEN THOUGHT THIS TYPE OF TIRE WAS RECALLED ON SAFERCAR.GOV ON NOVEMBER 4, 2015. WHY WAS IT REPLACED BY NITTO WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE TIRE??? NOW MY VEHICLE IS TOTALED!
I WAS DRIVING A F-F350 SD CREW CAB PICKUP TRUCK WITH A TRUCK SHELL TOP APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD BEGAN TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE CORD, RESULTING IN THE TREAD THRASHING (APPROXIMATELY 6 REVOLUTIONS) THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL CAUSING EXTREME BODY DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL, BUMPER, UPPER TRUCK SHELL SLIDING WINDOW. THIS WAS A VERY VIOLENT EXPLOSION WHEN THE TREAD FINALLY SEPARATED AND FLEW OFF THE TIRE CORD. I THEN STOPPED THE VEHICLE, ASSESSED THE PROBLEM, RETRIEVED THE TIRE TREAD WHICH REMAINED INTACT, ALSO IN ONE PIECE...! AMAZINGLY, THE TIRE CORD REMAINED INTACT, STILL PRESSURIZED AND HOLDING AIR... AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP,WHO WERE NOT INITIALLY HELPFUL POINTING THE FINGER TO B.F. GOODRICH, WHO I DID CALLED AND I RECEIVED A RETURN PHONE CALL THE NEXT DAY....
START OF MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF DEATH WOBBLE WITH THIS TRUCK AND NUMEROUS TRIPS TO THE FORD DEALERSHIPS WITH NO FIX. TIRES REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES AT MY EXPENSE: ( WAS TOLD THIS WOULD MOST LIKELY FIX THE WOBBLE). I WAS ADVISED THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT OUT (CASTER SETTING) AND COULD NOT BE FIXED BY FORD BECAUSE THE CASTER ADJUSTERS NECESSARY TO REPAIR - NOT AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. BUT FORD ADVISED ME THE ALIGNMENT WITHOUT THE CASTER ADJUSTERS WAS STILL WITHIN FORD SPECS AND WOULD BE FINE. LAST VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE DEATH WOBBLE AROUND 09-19-2012, VEHICLE @ 34,090. ADVISED THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO ALIGN VEHICLE WITH CASTER ADJUSTER SLEEVES; WAS UNABLE TO FIX, WRONG SLEEVES. WOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR APPROX. 400.00. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD THE FRONT ALIGNED CORRECTLY IT WOULD TAKE CARE OF DEATH WOBBLE. 95% SURE IT WOULD FIX....
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-350 DIESEL. WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEGAN TO SLIGHTLY VIBRATE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE RIM, THERE WAS SIX INCHES OF THE TIRE RIM BEAD THAT WAS FRACTURED FROM THE RIM OF THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44,000. ..UPDATED 04/26/12 *BF
THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT 20" ALLOY RIM MOUNTED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2008 FORD F350 SUPER DUTY DEVELOPED A STRESS FRACTURE THAT WHEN IN MOTION AND SUPPORTING THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE, OPENS AND CLOSES WITH EACH ROTATION OF THE WHEEL, CAUSING AIR PRESSURE TO VENT AND THE TIRE TO GO FLAT AFTER SEVERAL MILES OF DRIVING. THE FRACTURE DOES NOT VENT WHEN THE WHEEL IS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE OR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WITH NO STRESS ON THE FRACTURED AREA. THE FRACTURE IS NOT CAUSED BY ACCIDENT OR ABUSE. IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT TOOK SEVERAL YEARS TO DEVELOP INTO A DETECTABLE FAULT. STRESS FRACTURES OF THIS TYPE ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY ARE POTENTIALLY CAPABLE OF 100% FAILURE AT VEHICULAR SPEED, RESULTING IN RIM FAILURE AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. *TR
2008 FORD F 350 FX4 EQUIPPED WITH FORD'S PREMIUM WHEELS, THE PLASTIC FULL SIZE WHEEL COVERS ARE FALLING OFF OF THE WHEELS THAT THEY ARE ATTACHED TO. THE TAPE THAT HOLDS THE PLASTIC WHEEL COVERTO THE STEEL WHEEL IS FAILING. I AM CONCERNED THAT THESE WHEEL COVERS WILL FLY OFF AND HIT SOMEONE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR INJURIES. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OF THESE WHEEL COVERS. 1 COVER HAS ALREADY FALLEN OFF AND THE OTHER 3 ARE BECOMING LOOSE LIKE THE FIRST. I CALLED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER AND HAD THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER. BOTH FORD & THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF IT'S WARRANTY PERIOD (I PURCHASED FORD'S BEST EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED; SAME ANSWER) AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THEY DID EVEN LOOK AT THE WHEELS. *TR
